Randell Lee Jones, 62, of Owensboro died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at his home. He had worked for Specialty Containers.

Survivors include two daughters, Alicia Mae Daugherty and Rebecca Sue Estes; his father, Jessie Lee Jones; two brothers, Jerry Jones and Herschel Jones; and three sisters, Venessia Cravens, Alice Hurt and Sandra Patton.

William A. 'Bill' Rhodes

William A. "Bill" Rhodes, 70, formerly of Owensboro died Friday, June 4, 2004, at Florida Hospital Heartland in Sebring, Fla. He was born on Feb. 13, 1934, in Hamilton County, Ill., to the late Major and Ethel (Williams) Rhodes. He retired after 18 years as a trucking executive with A&H Truck Lines. He was a member of Fairmount Church of Christ in Sebring.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Frieda J. Rhodes; two sons, Roger Rhodes of Lexington and John Rhodes of Cookeville, Tenn.; a daughter, Terri Whitehouse of Franklin, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Nathan Rhodes and Lauren Rhodes of Lexington, Jill Rhodes and Abby Rhodes of Cookeville and Ashley Whitehouse and Alicia Whitehouse of Franklin, Tenn.; a sister, Edith Birchler of Terre Haute, Ind.; and a brother, Stanley Rhodes of Germantown, Tenn.

Services are at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Entombment is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 until 8 p.m. on Monday and from 9 until 10 a.m. on Tuesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home.

Riley Jo Schmoldt

DECATUR, Ill. - Riley Jo Schmoldt, infant daughter of Anthony J. and Holly L. (Draeger) Schmoldt, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Carol Jo Vecchie Women and Children's Center at St. John's Hospital in Springfield. Riley was born on June 5, 2004.

Surviving are her parents of Decatur; her grandparents, Joe and Gayle Draeger and Richard and Gay Schmoldt of Decatur; her great-grandparents, Sue Raines, Bobby and Fosteen Clements, Jerry and Dorothy Draeger of Owensboro, Margaret Campbell of Springfield and Raymond and Elaine Schmoldt of Decatur; aunts and uncles, Brock and Heather Meadows, Haley Draeger and Aaron Schmoldt of Decatur and Amanda Schmoldt of Springfield; and cousins, McKensie Meadows and Jordan Schmoldt. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Dorothy Draeger of Owensboro and Stanley Campbell of Mason City.

Private family services will be held at Graceland-Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur. Memorials can be made to Trisomy 18 Support Foundation, 4301 Connecticut Ave., N.W. Suite 404, Washington, D.C. 20008-2369.

Margaret Corine Montgomery

Margaret Corine Montgomery, 80, of 1914 South Griffith Ave., Owensboro, died at 3:49 p.m., Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Jan. 8, 1924, in Ohio County and retired from Owensboro Area Vocational School as a secretary. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. "Rock" Montgomery, who died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Powers of Owensboro; grandchildren, Tracy King and husband David of Lexington, Mark A. "Tony" Powers of Florida and Prentiss Terry and her husband Brian of Florida; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Michael King of Lexington; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Lorene Kizer of Florida.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Elmwood cemetery. The Rev. Richard Powers will officiate. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Carl Henry Animal Shelter.

John Edwin Winnecke

HAWESVILLE - John Edwin Winnecke, 66, of Hawesville, beloved husband of Marilyn Cates Winnecke, passed away Friday, June 4, 2004, at his home. He is also survived by his son, Christopher Cates Winnecke and his wife Robin, and his two granddaughters, Katlyn Elizabeth Winnecke and Brooklyn Grace Winnecke, all of Owensboro; a sister, Mary Ann Stephens and her husband Joe of Clarksville, Tenn.; his in-laws, Ed and Pat Cates of Brandenberg and Nellaine and Gary Gorsuch of Louisville; six nieces and nephews; eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and many cousins.

A 1956 graduate of Owensboro High School, Winnecke also earned a BA degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1961, where he played on the tennis team and was a charter member of Kentucky Gamma of Sigma Phi Epsilon. While attending KWC, he worked part-time as physical director of the Owensboro YMCA and as a sportswriter for the Owensboro . After graduation he joined the Daviess County School System, where he taught ninth-grade English and civics and eighth-grade physical education and coached freshman football and eighth-grade basketball at Utica Junior High School. He then taught English and journalism and coached sophomore baseball at Daviess County High School. In 1967, he became sports editor for the , covering sports ranging from croquet to national boat racing and including basketball, football, baseball, track, golf and the Kentucky Governor's Cup Unlimited Hydroplane Regatta. In 1971, he went to Eastern Kentucky University where he served as assistant director of news in the Division of Public Information before being named radio-TV editor in 1973. He later became director of the Division of Public Information at Eastern, serving in the areas of writing, editing, photography, publications, press conferences, budgeting and supervision. He earned an MA in education from Eastern in 1973. In 1980, Winnecke became director of public relations at National-Southwire Aluminum Co. in Hancock County, a position he held for seven years.

He returned to education with the Daviess County School System in 1987. At Apollo High School he taught English and journalism and coached tennis for several years. For 13 years he sponsored the school newspaper, The Challenger. He retired in 2000 but continued in a part-time capacity at Apollo until 2002, then taught English at Tell City (Ind.) High School and Tell City Junior High School until 2003.

Winnecke was an honorary member of the Future Homemakers of America. In 1970 he received the Budweiser national sports writing award for coverage of unlimited hydroplane racing. In 1973 he was named a Kentucky Colonel by then-governor Wendell Ford for promotion of the Kentucky Governor's Cup Regatta. He served as the voice of the regatta in 1972, 1973 and 1975, providing public address information to more than 100,000 racing fans during regatta week.

Winnecke was a former member of the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, serving as president for two years. He was a member of Hawesville United Methodist Church, served on the board of directors of the Windward Heights Country Club and worked on numerous community projects.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro, where visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Community Foundation of Owensboro and Daviess County for the John Winnecke Journalism Scholarship Fund, 335 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Wesley R. Parks

Wesley R. Parks, 59, of 2213 Baker Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at his residence. A native of Daviess County, he was born June 29, 1944, to the late Wesley W. and Sissy Mae Elmore Parks. He was a roofer, farm laborer and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Kathryn Luttrell Parks; three stepsons, David A. Ratliff, Charles R. Ratliff and Gary W. Ratliff, all of Owensboro; five stepdaughters, JoAnna Moore of Philpot, Terry L. Cline of Whitesville, Pamela A. Landa of Owensboro, Elizabeth M. Fowler of Mackville and Debra K. Blankenship of Harrodsburg; and a sister, Louise Anthony of Owensboro.

Visitation with the Parks family will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in Rosehill cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Wesley Parks Memorial Fund, c/o Kathryn Parks, 2213 Baker Drive, Owensboro, KY 42303.

Mary Aline (Clark) Conrad

Mary Aline (Clark) Conrad, 78, of Dixon, Mo., formerly of Owensboro, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, at Breech Medical Center in Lebanon, Mo. Mary was born in Johnson City, Ind., on January 15, 1926, to the late Leander and Lola Mae (Collinswood) Patrick. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 28 years, Thomas (Bill) Clark, in 1976; and her second husband of 25 years, Sherman (Eck) Conrad, in 2003.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas (T.C.) and Winnie Clark of Beaver Dam; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Larry Moore of Dixon; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jim England officiating. Burial will be in Grandview cemetery in Grandview, Ind. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Julia E. Fortner Day

Julia E. Fortner Day, 64, of 1226 Avondale Road, Owensboro, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. A native of Breckinridge County, she was born on Jan. 14, 1940, to the late Atlas and Pauline Higginbotham Fortner. She was a homemaker and member of Owensboro Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Thomas E. Day; two sons, Tom E. Day II of Sarasota, Fla., and Jerry L. Day of Owensboro; a daughter, Julie Thompson of Owensboro; six grandchildren; and a sister, W. Jean Rhoades of Brandenburg.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Entombment will be in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society, 319 W. 10th St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Billy Ray Taylor

LIVERMORE - Billy Ray Taylor, 66, of Livermore died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was disabled.

Survivors include three brothers, Noah Taylor, Roy Taylor and Phillip Taylor; and three sisters, Wanda Davis, Ethel Taylor and Margaret Ewing.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Burial: Island Methodist cemetery. Visitation: After 5 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

William Augustus Thompson

William Augustus Thompson, 76, of 930 Carter Road, Owensboro, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Daviess County. He was born in Laurel, Md., on May 29, 1932, to Lawrence Thompson and Alice Clarke Thompson and retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years. He was also a chef for several years and an attorney for the John Rogers family. He was a member and deacon at the Church of the Living God Pillar and Ground of the Truth and American Legion Post No. 9. He enjoyed fishing and cooking. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta B. Thompson, who died June 23, 2003.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Louis A. and Jacqui Brown of Owensboro; two god daughters, Amber Taylor and Christeon Robinson, both of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Tia Renee' Brown, Tyler Anthony Brown and Terran Willis, all of Owensboro; a brother, Joseph L. Thompson of Laurel; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Living God P.G.T. Visitation is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Church of the Living God P.G.T., 2319 W. 10th St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Linda K. Phillips

Linda K. Phillips, 55, of 4571 Roby Road, Philpot, died Monday, June 7, 2004, due to an automobile accident in Philpot. She was born on Oct. 5, 1948, in Owensboro to the late Ryland M. and Ruby (Miller) Dawson. She was employed at U.S. Bank Home Mortgage and was a member of Dawson Baptist Church. She was an avid pet lover. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cozette Phillips, on Nov. 19, 1989.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Lewis Phillips; a son, Jonathan Phillips, at home; a brother and sister-in-law, Don C. and Liz Dawson of Philpot; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patsy and Delbert Sadler of Magnet, Ind., and Sue and Mike Bartlett of Owensboro; two aunts, Irene Clark of Rockport, Ind., and Louise Midkiff of Lexington; and 16 nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
