Dorothy Sue Crabtree, 52, of Owensboro, passed away 3-10-07 at her home. She was born 12-23-54 in Owensboro to the late Richard Davis and Nelle Mofield Crabtree. She had worked at K-Mart for 10 years and was self employed. Mrs. Crabtree was a member of Faith Temple Church. She is survived by her husband, Mike Crabtree after 26 years of marriage. She is also survived by two daughters, Melissa McKnight and her husband, Charles of Aiken, South Carolina and Sapphire Renee Crabtree, of Owensboro. Also a son, Michael Crabtree of Owensboro. Two sisters, Patty Stites and Jennifer Crabtree, both of Owensboro. A brother, Richard Davis of Owensboro.

Mary Martine Goff McCormick

Mary Martine Goff McCormick, 98, died March 16, 2007 at the Carmel Home. She was born October 7, 1908 in Owensboro, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney M. Goff and Mary Lela Smith Goff; her son, Jerry D. Morris; her grandson, Jerry Lynn Morris; her sister, Edna Reynolds; and her brothers, Hugh Goff, Billy Goff, and Gene Goff. She was retired from Owensboro National Bank and a member of St. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. Surviving are her five granddaughters, Connie Clark, Brenda Quisenberry, Angie Wilkinson, Lisa Hawks, and Tina James; 16 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. Services are at 10:30am. Monday, March 17, 2007 at the Carmel Home in Owensboro, Kentucky. Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Visitation is from 9:00 to 10:30am. Monday at the Carmel Home. Reverend Maury Riney will be officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro, Kentucky.

James Russell Moore
Born in Daviess County, Kentucky on Feb. 3, 1943
Departed on Mar. 16, 2007 and resided in Utica, KY.

James Russell Moore, 64, of 819 Buford Road, Utica, Kentucky, died March 16, 2007 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess County, Kentucky. He enjoyed baseball and NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his parents William Moore and Opal Stewart Moore. Surviving are his wife, Muriel Moore; his sons, William Moore of New York and Steward Moore of New York; his step-sons, Fred Kenyon of New York and Charles Kenyon of New York; his daughters, Anna Daugherty of Owensboro, Kentucky; Pamela Ramburger of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Opal Simmons of Owensboro, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Melissa, Jonny, Justin, Nathan, Brandon, Rebekkha, Kendall, Russell, and Kathlyn; his great-grandchild, Michael; and his sister, Helen Hendricks of Indianapolis. There will be no services or visitation. Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. The family request expressions of sympathy in the form of donations to American Diabetes Association, PO Box 1131, Fairfax, VA 22038-1131.

Hazel A. Mann

HENDERSON - Hazel A. Mann, 91, of Henderson, formerly of Independence, Mo., died at 2:17 p.m., Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Methodist Hospital. She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Henderson. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Samuel Fortin and Palmer Mann.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret Jennings of Henderson; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. Dr. J. Douglas Blair will officiate. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mount Washington cemetery in Independence. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Presbyterian Church of Henderson or St. Anthony's Hospice.

Mae Kathryn Whittington

Mae Kathryn Whittington, 78, of 5329 Jones Road, Owensboro, formerly of Calhoun, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah. Mae Kathryn was born Jan. 25, 1926, in McLean County to the late Rollie and Pauline Blackford. She was a 1944 graduate of the former Calhoun High School, a graduate of the University of Kentucky and received her master's degree from Western Kentucky University. She was married to E.G. Whittington in June 1952 until his death on June 23, 1990. Mrs. Whittington was a retired teacher from McLean County Board of Education, having taught at both the Calhoun and Livermore schools and was the owner of Wooly Lamb Crafts. Mae Kathryn was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church and Owensboro Herb Society. She was a juried participant in the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program and was a recognized member of the local artist community as a weaver, spinner and a basket weaver. She also enjoyed sharing with the community the joy and art of Old World crafts and was an annual exhibitor at Reid's Apple Festival.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay Evans of Owensboro; a grandson, Nathaniel Evans of Owensboro; and a brother, Louis Blackford of Calhoun.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Calhoun cemetery with Dr. Glen Sowards officiating. Friends may visit with the Whittington family from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. A video tribute of Mrs. Mae Kathryn Whittington's life will be presented at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Musters in Calhoun.

The Whittington family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children or Calhoun Elementary School Library. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.

Noble H. Phillips

Noble H. Phillips, 90, of 2504 Citation Ave., Owensboro, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on Jan. 18, 1914, in Ohio County to the late James Ivy and Georgia Lois (Harrison) Phillips. He was a retired, self-employed farmer and a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise P. Phillips; a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Martha Phillips of Hendersonville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Leslye Tucker of Gallatin, Tenn., James David Phillips of Miami and Nickie Deonne Phillips of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Lauren Tucker, Cayce Tucker and Bailey Tucker.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Herbert L. Webster

Herbert L. Webster, 75, of 1632 J.R. Miller Blvd., Owensboro, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Daviess County to the late Robert Lee and Sylvia Dorece (Canary) Webster. He was a retired carpenter and an Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Teresa Hanley Webster, on Aug. 31, 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Alsup Webster; a daughter, Brenda Carol Webster of Owensboro; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Franklin Webster of Indianapolis, George Webster of Owensboro, Gene Webster of Colorado and David Webster of Owensboro; and a sister, Carolyn Anthony of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday, June 21, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Maurice Allan Lovan

Maurice Allan Lovan, 68, of 1329 Center St., Owensboro, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at the Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1935, in Providence to Pearl and Ida Mayes Lovan. Mr. Lovan was a counselor for New Horizons and an Army veteran. He had attended Indiana University. He was a member of Owensboro Christian Church and a long-term member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

He is survived by two brothers, Paul Wayne Lovan and William Carroll Lovan of Clay; two sisters, Barbara Hardeman of Providence and Lillian Stewart of Moab, Utah; a nephew, James L. Lovan of Bowling Green; and his caretakers, Samuel Faulkner and David Matthews, both of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 18, at Glenn Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to New Horizons, 320 Clay St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Joan Gower

Joan Gower, 67, of 3426 B. Wandering Lane, Owensboro, died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Gower; two sons, Marcus Martin and Bruce Martin; and two daughters, Candace Martin and Peggy Freeman.

Services are private. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ernest 'Ernie' Robert Blair

Ernest "Ernie" Robert Blair, 79, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. Ernest was born May 13, 1925, in Daviess County and lived in Owensboro and Rockport, Ind., except for the four years and 10 months he was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a World War II veteran and served aboard the USS Card and later the USS Intrepid. He was of the Catholic faith. He retired after 35 years of employment as a truck driver for A&H Truck Lines and was a member of Teamsters Local No. 215. He enjoyed cards, fishing, boating, gardening, watching and listening to his sons play music and being with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Thomas and Sophia Allen Blair; two brothers, James Blair and Franklin D. Blair; and two sisters, Catherine Marie Savage and Vinnie Spence.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Margaret Hallie Merritt Blair, married on April 3, 1948; nine sons, Doug Blair, Bill Blair and wife Janie, and Scott Blair and wife Shirley, all of Owensboro, Jewell Ray Blair and Mirtie of Hartford, Donnie Blair and wife Gaye of Central City, Roy Lee Blair and wife Marlene of Masonville, Richard Blair and Gary McBride of Utica, Tommy Blair and wife Donna, Larry Blair and wife Bertha, all of Rockport; four daughters, Wanda Blair Logan and husband Jim of Kokomo, Ind., Janice Blair Shouse, Rhonda Blair Emmick and husband Kevin, all of Owensboro, and Ann Blair Wheatley and husband Eugene Jr. of Newtonville, Ind.; a brother, Oscar Ray Blair of Deanfield; 31 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho with military honors. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home where prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to V.A. Outpatient Clinic, attention: Carolyn Millender, 500 East Walnut St., Evansville, IN 47713 or Western Kentucky Regional Blood Center, 3015 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.

Virgil D. Sauls

HENDERSON - Virgil D. Sauls, 73, of Henderson died at 5:58 a.m., Monday, June 21, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. He was a 47-year member of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America and was selected to the Cardinal District Hall of Fame. He sang in eight barbershop quartets and was a member of four district champion quartets. He was a member and former director of the Evansville Songfellows, a member of the Terre Haute (Ind.) Banks of the Wabash Chorus and was past director of the Evansville Sweet Adelines Chorus. He was a Korean War Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Susan Mann Sauls; four daughters, Diana Garvey of Indianapolis, Karen Lenning of Evansville, Mischelle Stocum of Mayfield and Marianne Cox of Evansville; three sons, David Sauls of Perkiomenville, Pa., and Donald Sauls and Daniel Sauls, both of Evansville; 16 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. He was preceded in death by two grandsons.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Canon John Rettger will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until 9:30 a.m. Friday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Harmony Foundation of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America. Pallbearers will be Don Julian, Dick Griffith, Tom Anderson, Dick Earnest, Steve Johnson and Ken Mitz.
