Joseph H. Hagan

Joseph H. Hagan, 69, of Hartford, transitioned from this life on July 9, 2004, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was born on Sept. 2, 1934, in Daviess County to the late William G. and Olivia (Strobel) Hagan. He was the retired owner of Joe Hagan Plumbing Service. Although modest, he was a self-made carpenter and tradesman. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. His kindness, sense of humor and the fun he provided everyone he met will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his strong, wonderful wife of 43 years, Martha Graham Hagan; a son, R. Scott Hagan and daughter-in-law, Robin of Beaver Dam; a daughter, Felicia Hagan, and life partner, Kathleen (Cain) of Evansville; four grandchildren, Sarah Lentz, Olivia, Aaron and Jessica Hagan; a brother, William F. Hagan of Philpot; a sister, Mary Rose Durbin of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge and express thanks to a very special and respectful colleague, Robert Rusche, of Evansville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 12, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Ohio County Resources for the Disabled, c/o Frank Aubrey, 101 McCreary Court, Apt. 304, Hartford, KY 42347.

Sister Charles Joseph Hill

LOUISVILLE - Sister Charles Joseph Hill, SCN, 89, died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Nazareth Home in Louisville. Sister Charles Joseph was a native of Stanley. She was a member of Sisters of Charity of Nazareth for 54 years and a member of Nazareth Home community since 2002. Sister served in Kentucky as an elementary school teacher, as local superior at the Motherhouse in Nazareth, Registrar at Nazareth College, later Spalding University and in volunteer ministry.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews and her sisters in the congregation of the Sisters of Charity in Nazareth.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at St. Vincent Church in Nazareth. Burial will be Wednesday immediately following the service in Nazareth cemetery. Visitation is after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Nazareth Home in Louisville and after 4 p.m. at the church. Prayer services are at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the church. Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home on Bardstown Road in Louisville is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be made to SCN Missions, P.O. Box 9, Nazareth, KY 40048.

Sherrie Estes Lott

Sherrie Estes Lott, 43, of Philpot died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Daviess County on Jan. 5, 1961, the daughter of the late Albert L. Estes Jr. and Dorothy L. Simmons Estes. Mrs. Lott was an LPN at OMHS and enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with her family and her work at the hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce Cain Lott; two daughters, April Lott and Amber Lott, both of Philpot; a brother, Tony Estes of Owensboro; two sisters, Chris Estes and Lisa McDonald, both of Owensboro; her mother-in-law, Betty Lott Gregory of Owensboro; five nephews, Bobby Pate, Tyler Estes, Anthony Villia, Nathan McDonald and Joshua McDonald; and five nieces, Abbi Estes, Ashley McDonald, Sarah McDonald, Heather Estes and Kristy Lynn Williams.

Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 6 p.m. Thursday with Sister Jeanette Haas officiating. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Dorothy May Boyle Ralph

Dorothy May Boyle Ralph, 76, of 1104 Cedar St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing Home. She was born May 30, 1928, in Curdsville. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Julius C. Ralph; three sons, Michael Dale Ralph of Owensboro, Ronald Lee Ralph of Oakland, N.J., and Julius Allen Ralph of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Drew Ralph, Kelly Wagner, Jason Ralph and Christopher Ralph; a great-grandchild; two brothers, Donald Ray Boyle of Hattiesburg, Miss., and William "Billy" Boyle of Belzonia, Miss.

Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Kathern Elizabeth Freels Ballard

Kathern Elizabeth Freels Ballard, 2-month-old infant daughter of Ronnie Angel Ballard and Kyle Freels of Owensboro, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Owensboro. She was born on May 12, 2004, in Owensboro.

Survivors also include her brother, Parker Kennedy Ballard, at home; her maternal grandparents, Ron and Paula Ballard of Marion and Jean Ballard of Owensboro; her paternal grandparents, Larry William and Shirley Sue Freels of Owensboro; her maternal great-grandparents, J.B. and Kathern Ballard of Oak Grove; and her paternal great-grandfather, A.D. Freels of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Betty Payne Summers
07/18/04
LOUISVILLE - Betty Payne Summers, 71, died Saturday afternoon, July 17, 2004, at 2 p.m. in Norton Infirmary in Louisville following several weeks illness. She was born in Christian County on Dec. 22, 1932. She had lived in Louisville for 30 years. She was a 1950 graduate of Greenville High School and a member of Middletown Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 19, at 1 p.m. from Gary's Funeral Home by the Rev. C.W. Duncan. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Bob Summers of Louisville; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Melanie Summers of Louisville; a daughter, Susan P. Summers of Louisville; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call Monday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to funeral time at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Catherine Marie Gatton Ferrell

Catherine Marie Gatton Ferrell, 76, previously of 503 Cedar St., Owensboro, residing at Hillcrest Healthcare Center, passed away Monday, July 12, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. Catherine was born in Owensboro and was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral. She had retired from Hillcrest Healthcare Systems but far from retired from life. She was a very outgoing person who never met a stranger, often striking up conversations in check-out lines. She was an avid puzzle worker, often completing several books a week. She loved animals, pizza and chocolate. Catherine was preceded in death by her mother, Frances Pearl Brandt Markowicz; her daughter, Gina Thompson; her sisters, Bernadine Trodglen, Lois Head and Margaret Kimbley; and a great-granddaughter, Bailey Thompson.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Ferrell and his wife Tonya of Owensboro; son-in-law, Phillip Thompson of Owensboro; grandson, Andy Thompson and his wife Amy; grandson, David Ferrell; granddaughter, Katie Thompson and her fiance Vic Stallings; grandson, Brandon Ferrell; granddaughter, Rebecca Ferrell; and Tonya's children, Joshua McDonald and Sarah McDonald that will forever be grandson and granddaughter in her heart. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Dylan Thompson, Zachary Stallings, Trinity Ferrell and Brianna Ferrell. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is from noon until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Peter cemetery in Stanley.

Reva J. Wright

BEECHMONT - Reva J. Wright passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, July 27, 2004, in Muhlenberg County Hospital in Greenville following a long illness at her home in Beechmont.

Reva Nell (Jenkins) Wright was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Rosewood in Muhlenberg County. Her parents were Victor and Eva Jenkins and she was the third child of four, Bernice McLemore and Melvin Shelby Jenkins, both deceased, and Tom Jenkins, who lives in Lexington.

Her husband was the Frank E. Wright, who died Nov. 11, 1982. During his lifetime both he and Reva worked in Louisville, and they owned the Frigid Whip, an ice cream business in Drakesboro. She is survived by her only child, Frank E. Wright Jr. He and his wife, Nora, live in Beechmont, where they operate a retail motorcycle parts and repair business. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Jenkins, his wife, Harriett; and also by four nieces and nephews.

Reva was a graduate of the class of 1935 at Hughes Kirkpatrick High School in Beechmont, and she attended the Bowling Green Business University. She was an astute, capable businesswoman and worked in offices in Louisville and Greenville during her lifetime. She managed her own business affairs up until a few days before she died.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Drakesboro, where she and her late husband served faithfully. In 1987 she was honored by the First Baptist Church in Drakesboro and was presented a plaque for her 31 years of service as church clerk. Throughout most of her lifetime, she was active in Order of the Eastern Star. Reva and her husband, Frank, were active members of the Gideons International, a Bible placement organization for motels and hotels, and she was active in distributing nurses' testaments in hospitals and Muhlenberg County.

Gifts in memory of Reva J. Wright may be sent to First Baptist Church in Drakesboro or Gideons International Bible Society in Lebanon, Tenn.

Visitation will take place at Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont from 5 to 9 p.m. today, July 28. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery in Greenville.

James Darrel Miller

LIVERMORE - James Darrel Miller, 58, of Livermore died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at his home. James Darrel Miller was born Jan. 29, 1946, in Ohio County to the late Leonard and Helen Miller and was later married to the former Rebecca Lou Crowe. He had retired from the TVA Paradise Plant and was a member of the Livermore Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and also enjoyed horses. His wife, Rebecca Crowe Miller, died July 29, 1996.

Survivors include a son, Jarrod Scott Miller of Livermore; and a brother, Gary L. Miller of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel, with the Rev. Doug Anderson and the Rev. Gary Shockley officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery in Livermore. Friends may visit with the Miller family from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at Musters in Livermore.

The Miller family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Livermore Missionary Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 8, Livermore, KY 42352. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Livermore.

Terry Wayne 'Lucky' Best

FALLS OF ROUGH - Terry Wayne "Lucky" Best, 58, of 781 Pine Ridge Road, Falls of Rough, died at 7:55 p.m., Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center in Leitchfield. He was born Feb. 27, 1946, in Daviess County and retired as a citizens band radio technician. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the Baptist faith and national president of Outhouse Motorcycle/CB Club. His hobbies included CBs and Harleys. He was preceded in death by his father, James Best; his mother, Dorothy Bartlett, in 2004; and his daughter, Regina Rose Best, in 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Vicky Bratcher Best; his father, Johnny Bartlett of Owensboro; his stepmother, Alberta Best of Owensboro; five sons, Terry Wayne Best Jr. of Hornwall, Tenn., Roger Lee Best of Falls of Rough, Dwayne Edward Best of Robards and Christopher Bishop and Derick Scott Bratcher, both of Owensboro; three daughters, Tina McCarthy, Donna Fegett and Julia Bell, all of Owensboro; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Bishop and Beth Mattingly, both of Owensboro; 17 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; four brothers, Donnie Whitaker, Mike Best, Harry Best and Barry Best, all of Owensboro; and six sisters, Jean Black of Falls of Rough, Patty Hayden and Cindy Roberts, both of Owensboro, Susie Bartlett of Utica, Diana Hendricks of Owensboro and Becky Goldsberry of Marshall, Ill.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery. The Rev. Mike Bowers will officiate. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Terry Wayne Lucky Best Memorial Fund.
