BEAVER DAM - Myrtle Mae Black, 91, of Beaver Dam died Friday, July 16, 2004, at her residence. She was born in Ohio County and retired as a school teacher from Beaver Dam Elementary. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church near Beaver Dam. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie D. Black, who died Sept. 13, 2002; her parents, Eddie and Carrie Barnard Heflin; and two brothers, Harold Heflin and Wendell Heflin.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Black of Beaver Dam and Eddie Black of Brownsburg, Ind.; a daughter, Linda Leisure of Louisville; a brother, Fred Heflin of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Gaynell Warren of Beaver Dam and Helen Cook of Commerce, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to services Monday at the funeral home.

Hildred E. Paxton

GREENVILLE - Hildred E. Paxton died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. A Muhlenberg County native, Mr. Paxton owned and operated Red Arrow Delivery Co. in Evansville for 25 years before retiring to Muhlenberg County. He was also assistant building manager of Evansville Vanderburgh County School Corp. He was superintendent of the Greenville Utilities Commission, executive director and board member of Muhlenberg County Opportunity Center, past president and board member of Muhlenberg Industrial Development, Central City councilman, chairman of the Council on Aging, World War II veteran and Bronze Star recipient and a Kentucky Colonel.

He was a member of Gideons International, Reed Lodge 32nd degree Mason, Evansville Scottish Rite Temple, Greenville United Methodist Church and Central City Rotary Club.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Givens Paxton; two sons, Eddie J. Paxton of Lexington and Steven H. Paxton of Lake Bluff, Ill.; a stepson, Rick Givens of Siler City, N.C.; three grandchildren, Amy Mellinger, Blake Paxton and Ashley Paxton of Lexington; a stepgrandson, Dustin Givens; and three great-grandchildren, Blake II, Paige and Hadley. Mr. Paxton was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Paxton.

Visitation is at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City on Tuesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Vernon Purdue and the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Memorial gifts may be made to Gideons International.

Jackie Wayne Beliles

DRAKESBORO - Jackie Wayne Beliles, 63, of Drakesboro died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at his home. He was a retired coal miner and a member of Forest Oak Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Drake Beliles; three daughters, Pam Pendley, Angie Maxfield and Amy Watkins; his mother, Agnes Beliles; a brother, Jerrell Beliles; and a sister, Linda Southerland.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial: Union Chapel cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation: After 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Thomas Howard Rose

BREMEN - Thomas Howard Rose, 81, of 128 Rose Lane, Bremen, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born on April 21, 1923, in the Martwick community of Muhlenberg County. His parents, Grover and Lillie Rose; a son, Tommie Rose; and two brothers, Gene Tunney and Jack Rose all preceded him in death. He was a retired boilermaker with Local Union #40 for 41 years and a faithful, active and loving member of Church Street General Baptist Church in Bremen. His favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruth Grundy Rose; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Phyllis Rose of Bremen, Mack and Pam Rose of Bremen and Sid and Becky Rose of Bremen; eight grandchildren, Kelly Rose and Gina Wright, Tanya and Jeremy Rose and Ashlyn, Collin, Isaac and Eli Rose; three great-grandchildren, Hunter and Emma Rose and Hannah Wright; and three sisters, Mary Bell Steele of Powderly, Margaret Krumrie of Portage, Ind., and Judy Peck of Florida.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Danny Greene and the Rev. Tom Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today with a boilermakers rites service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Melissa A. Waid

BILOXI, Miss. - Melissa A. Waid, 36, of Biloxi, formerly of Lewisport, died Monday, July 5, 2004, at UK hospital in Lexington. She was born Feb. 1, 1968, at Gallipolis, Ohio, the daughter of Ramon Rex Bomgardner and Brenda G. (Stewart) Vetter. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her husband, Bradley Waid of Biloxi; two sons, Jeremy Waid and Jacob Waid of Biloxi; two sisters, Julie Bomgardner Burchett and Erin Bomgardner, both of Tell City, Ind.; her father, Rex Bomgardner of Lewisport; her mother, Brenda Vetter of Gallipolis; her grandparents, Gertrude and Calvin Stewart of Gallipolis; three nephews, Jamon and Travis Burchett of Tell City and Jaden Basham of Lexington; a niece, Chelsey Conner of Tell City; and many loving family members and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 9, at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home with Brother Roger Jarboe officiating. Burial will be in Lewisport cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home.

Deborah Kay Lanphear

BOWLING GREEN - Deborah Kay Lanphear, 49, of Bowling Green died at 8:25 a.m., Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He was born in Fort Eustis, Va., to Worley Edward Gentry Sr. and Alice Marian Westerfield Ward. She was a homemaker, a member of West End Church of Christ and a Sunday school teacher at the church. She was preceded in death by a son, Adam Lanphear; and her father, Worley Edward Gentry Sr.

Survivors include her husband, David Lanphear of Bowling Green; two sons, Kyle Lanphear of Raleigh, N.C., and Colin Lanphear of Bowling Green; her mother, Alice Gentry Ward of Owensboro; her stepfather, Don Ward of Owensboro; two brothers, W. Edward Gentry Jr. and wife Lisa and Scott Gentry and wife Tracey, all of Owensboro; a sister, Lori White and husband Eddie of Elizabethtown; and seven nieces and three nephews.

Services are at 11 a.m. today at J.C. Kirby & Sons Funeral Home, Lovers Lane Chapel, in Bowling Green. Burial will take place in Bowling Green Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Heart Association, Kentucky Region, 333 Guthrie St., Suite 207, Louisville, KY 40202.

Sue Reynolds

Mrs. Sue Reynolds, 74, of 1145 Avondale Road, Owensboro went home to be with Jesus on Friday, July 23, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born April 27, 1930, to Jewell Lee and Lila Womack McGee in Richmond, Ind. She was an instructor at the Adult Learning Center as well as a homemaker. She had attended Parrish Avenue Baptist and Good Shepherd churches and was presently a member of Word and Spirit Church. Sue loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed music and singing.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky Reynolds, who died June 19, 1999.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Thomas R. Reynolds of Owensboro; one daughter, Nancy Parker and her husband Bobby of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Christi Hatfield and her husband, Josh, of Beaver Dam and Aaron Parker and his wife, Cherokee of Philpot; three great-grandchildren; her mother, Lila "Molly" McGee of Holiday, Fla.; one brother, Edwin McGee and his wife Barbara of New Port Richey, Fla.; also several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2004, at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wendell Foster Center, P.O. Box 1668, Owensboro, KY 42302.

Jennifer Leigh 'Jenni' Evans

FAIRVIEW, Tenn. - Jennifer Leigh "Jenni" Evans, 39, of Fernvale Road, Fairview, formerly of Owensboro, died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at 6 p.m. at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. She was a member of The Cathedral of the Incarnation Catholic Church in Nashville. She was employed as an operating room nurse at Centennial Hospital for the last 14 years. She was a 1983 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and a 1988 graduate of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.

She is survived by her parents, Margaret Anne Evans of Crestwood, Deales Evans of Whitesville and Charles Thurman of Paducah; her grandmother, Annie Thurman of Paducah; her fiancé, Don Ward and his son, Levi, of Fairview; a brother, Chris Evans of Owensboro; a sister, Lisa Evans of Murfreesboro; a brother, Mark Evans and his wife, Diane, of Paducah; a nephew, Blake Evans of Murfreesboro; a niece, Kristen Evans and nephew, Mitchell Evans, both of Paducah; an aunt and uncle, Nancy and Max Etchason of Decatur, Ill.; a cousin, Clifford Etchason of Chicago; her uncle and aunt, Jessie Willard Mitchell Jr. and Ann Mitchell of Paducah; and cousins, Jessie Willard Mitchell III, Brian Mitchell, Cliff Mitchell, Kathy Carothers, Kelly Sikes, Tina Claypool, Annie Swope and Nancy Mitchell.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday, July 19, at Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Owensboro Catholic High School, 1524 W. Parrish Ave., Owensboro, KY 42301.

William 'Bill' Katterjohn

William "Bill" Katterjohn, 58, of Owensboro died Sunday July 4, 2004, at his home.

Survivors include a sister, Anne Gibbs; and a brother, John Katterjohn.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fernwood cemetery. There will be no visitation. Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Norman Robert Fildes Sr.

HARDINSBURG - Norman Robert Fildes Sr., 84, of Hardinsburg died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at VA Medical Center in Louisville. He was an Army veteran of 30 years and a member of Hites Run Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary D. Hawkins Fildes; a son, Norman Robert (Bob) Fildes Jr.; two daughters, Vickie Lee Plunkett and Jackie Blanchard; and a sister, Barbara Sutherland.

Services: 10 a.m. today at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lebanon National cemetery. Visitation: From 9 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Dora Forest Drake

BELTON - Dora Forest Drake, 88, of P.O. Box 38, Belton died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Maple Manor Health Care in Greenville. She was born May 27, 1916, in Logan County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Forest Oak Baptist Church in Belton. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Drake; and a son, Doyle Drake.

Survivors include two sons, Argle Drake of Owensboro and Ronnie Drake of Belton; four daughters, Lenora Link of Griffith, Ind., Ausalene Pendley of Belton, Sue Beliles of Drakesboro and Shirley Dukes of Beechmont; 22 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elmer Link of Griffith.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Dukes officiating and assisted by the Rev. Gene McGehee. Burial will be in Mud River Union cemetery in Belton. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
