LEWISBURG - Patsy Sue Walker Bivins, 55, of 16243 Lewisburg Road, Lewisburg, died Monday morning, July 12, 2004, in an automobile accident on Highway 181 South in Greenville. She was born in Greenville, the daughter of James Walker and Ruthell Lear Walker. She attended Landmark Church in Weir. She was a retired factory worker who worked at Flynn, Dana and also at Emerson Electric.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 14, at 10 a.m. from Gary's Funeral Home by the Rev. Charles Anthony Knight. Burial will be in Landmark cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Freddy Junior Bivins of Lewisburg; her father and mother, James Walker and Ruthell Lear Walker of Greenville; three sons, Johnny (Tammy) Bivins and Dennis Bivins, all of Lewisburg, and Michael (Heather) Bivins of Central City; three grandchildren, Kaitlyn Renee Bivins, Erica Leann Bivins and Devon Austin Bivins; a brother, William Franklin Walker of Greenville; and a sister, Betsy Wells of Elkton.

Friends may call at the funeral home today, July 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.

BEECH CREEK - Ruby Lee Gorham, 89, of Beechmont died Monday, July 26, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was a homemaker and member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Drakesboro.

Survivors include a son, Roger Gorham; two daughters, Iva Dell Knight and Lynda Henderson; and four sisters, Mildred Oglesby, Mazola Jackson, Iva Jean Mihelchic and Evelyn Yarbor.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial: Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation: After 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eula Mae Garrett

ENGLISH - Eula Mae Garrett went to reside with her Heavenly Father on July 15, 2004. Born to Marion and Eva Lena-Swafford-Griffith in English on Sept. 16, 1914, Eula Mae attended English School and English Baptist Church. She was a loving mother of three children who were raised in Mill Creek and Carrollton. She lived in Owensboro for 20 years and was a former resident of the Roosevelt House. She retired from Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital after 15 years of service and resided with her daughter for the past 16 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Eva Lena Swafford; her father, Marion Griffith; her sister, Delma Willis; and her brother, William Griffith.

She is survived by her children, her sons, Johnny Marion Garrett and his wife Dottie of Campbellsburg, Robert E. Garrett and his wife, Bess, of Owensboro; her daughter, Lena A. Hanlon and her husband, James D. Hanlon, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Deborah, Crystal and Kimberly Garrett of Carrollton, Mona Aud and Beverly Duncan of Owensboro, Dennis Couch of Louisville, John Edward Duncan of Murfreesboro, and Shannon Duggins of Campbellsburg; 10 great-grandchildren, Shannon Knowles of Orlando, Fla., Johnna Payne of Owensboro, Erica Dwyer of Lafayette, La., Angela Couch, Denise Bush and Dennis Couch II of Louisville, Josh, Caleb, Noah and Rachel Duggins of Campbellsburg; five great-great-grandchildren, Seth, Cade and Elizabeth Knowles of Orlando and Morgan and B.J. Payne of Owensboro.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Hospice, 1410 Donelson Pike, Suite No. B14, Nashville, TN 37217, 1-800-889-4673. Services to be held at Ransdell Funeral Home in Campbellsburg. Open for viewing at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 17, and funeral at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18, and interment at English cemetery.

Dustin Michael Church

WATERBURY, Conn. - Dustin Michael Church, 18, of Waterbury died Saturday, July 10, 2004, in Kent, Conn. Dustin was born Aug. 24, 1985, in New Haven, Conn. He was a student at the Marvelwood School and graduated in June 2004. He was most recently employed as a salesman for Polo. Dustin loved spending time with his family and friends, gymnastics, swimming, soccer, music and making people smile.

Survivors include his mother, Sharon Duncan Church of Waterbury; his father and stepmother, William S. and Colleen Church of Madison; his brother, Casey C. Church of Keene, N.H.; his grandparents, James Lloyd and Regina Duncan of Owensboro; John and Marjorie Church of Ohio; two uncles, Barry and Marie Duncan of Waterbury and Mike and Darlene Duncan of Whitesville; aunt, Dyanne and Levi Baker of Owensboro; first cousins, Jamie and Stephanie Duncan of Bowling Green and Stephanie Duncan Matthews, Shawn Duncan and Kelsea Matthews, all of Charlotte, N.C.; and other extended family in the Owensboro area.

Memorial services were held July 17 at First Congregational Church in Branford, Conn. Inurnment was in Center cemetery in Branford. W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home in Branford was in charge of arrangements.

The family requested in lieu of flowers and gifts, donations could be sent to: Casey Church, 55-5 Deerwood Lane, Waterbury, CT 06704 in honor and memory of Dustin.

Mary Helen Long

LIVERMORE - Mary Helen Long, 88, of Livermore died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at Maple Manor Healthcare Center in Greenville. Mary Helen Frazier was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Henderson County to the late George and Isabelle Frazier and was later married to Frank H. Long on Nov. 6, 1937, in Owensboro. Mrs. Long was a homemaker, also served as the family baby-sitter, caring for all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and was an active member of Livermore Missionary Baptist Church. Her husband of 65 years, Frank H. Long, died July 12, 2003. Mary Helen was also preceded in death by a son, Willard Long, who died Sept. 2, 1976.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Savannah and Lawrence Garrett of Central City; seven grandchildren, David Dewayne Boyken, Roger Boyken, Kathy Boyken, Mark Boyken, Keith Long, Denise Aubrey and Timothy Scott Long; two stepgrandchildren, Karen Garrett and Chris Garrett; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Shockley officiating. Burial will be in Richland Baptist Church in McLean County. Friends may visit with the Long family from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at Musters in Livermore.

The Long family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Richland Baptist cemetery Fund or Livermore Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Livermore.

Nola Lee Hancock

Nola Lee Hancock, 80, formerly of 3011 Epworth Lane, Owensboro, died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro. She had been a clerk at Gene's Hardware and was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Aaron K. Hancock Jr.; a daughter, Judy Barnett; and a brother, Voris D. Moseley.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial: Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation: From 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Alice Faye Higgs Sawyer

Alice Faye Higgs Sawyer, 65, of 536 Leitchfield Road, Owensboro, died Monday, July 19, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. She was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Daviess County. She was a retired sitter for the elderly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Elmer Sawyer, on Aug. 23, 1985; and by her father, J.T. Higgs.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley and husband, Tom Sandefur, of Maceo; two sons, Ronald Sawyer of Denver and Larry James Sawyer and wife, Cindy, of New York; her mother, Faye Elizabeth Butchart of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, Lucas Sawyer, Matthew Sawyer, Ciara Sawyer, Shawn Sawyer, Shiann Sawyer, Tommy Sandefur III, Felicia Sandefur, Joey Sandefur and Christina Sandefur; and two sisters, Wanda DeTalante of Madisonville and Letha "PeeWee" Taylor of Calhoun.

Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Entombment is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Humane Society, P.O. MARTWICK - Lorine Everett King, 87, of 113 Wolf Drive, Dousman, Wis., formerly of Martwick, died at 8:55 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born in Muhlenberg County on Dec. 3, 1916. She was a homemaker and member of the Lutheran faith.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas and wife, Eva Jo, King of Moorman and William "Bill" King of Dousman; five grandsons, Thomas and wife, Latrica, King of Bremen, Tony and wife, Lina, King of Hartford, Todd and wife, Susan, King of Greenville, Tim and wife, Shannon, King of Lexington and Terry and wife, Kay, King of Central City; 10 great-grandchildren, Crystal, Joshua, Justin, Matthew, Michael, Zack, Lucas, Hannah, Shelby and Kristen; and a sister, Leona Waddell of Hobart, Ind. She was preceded in death by her husband, Montgomery King; and three brothers, Willie, T.J., and Hobart Sublett.

Services are at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 18, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. The Rev. Mitchell Sublett will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

HARDINSBURG - Regina F. Kiper, 64, of Harned died Monday, July 5, 2004, at Norton Hospital.

Survivors include two brothers, Claude and Donnie Kiper; and three sisters, Dorothy Rold, Susie Koetter and Nancy Jolly.

Theodore C. Lewis

LEWISPORT - Theodore C. Lewis, 82, of Lewisport died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was a retired truck driver and an Army veteran of World War II.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Monday at Lewisport cemetery with military honors. Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport is in charge of arrangements.

Roxanna 'Rocky' Hawley

Roxanna "Rocky" Hawley, 49, of 5965 Highway 60 East, Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004. The Daviess County native was a mechanic for G&A Trucking for 10 years and a former employee of Ragu for 22 years. She was known for her artistic drawings and paintings. She was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Sadler, in 1998.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Jenny Hawley of Calhoun; a daughter and son-in-law, Rena and Jeff Hamilton of Lewisport; two grandchildren, Taylor and Zachary Hamilton, both of Lewisport; her father, Joe Sadler of Lewisport; and a sister, Paula Sue Gray of Hawesville.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, at 11:30 a.m. at Glenn Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 10 a.m. Friday. Interment will be private. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Roxanna Hawley Memorial Fund, 2601 Hatfield-Stevens Road, Calhoun, KY 42327.
