Edward Owings 'Chuck' Crooks

NAPLES, Fla. - Edward Owings "Chuck" Crooks, 93, of Naples, formerly of Mount Sterling, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Owensboro. He was born Feb. 16, 1911, in Mount Sterling to the late Florence Shackleford and Jefferson Rice Crooks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Crooks. He was employed as a bank examiner and was employed at Mount Sterling National Bank and Montgomery National Bank, later Traditional Bank, in 1950 as executive vice president, trust officer, bank president and CEO. From 1951 to 1988 he served on the board of directors, from 1977 to 1988 he was chairman of the board and from 1988 to 1990 he was honorary chairman of the board. He was also city treasurer, attended UPI and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a daughter, LeGrand Crooks Hisle of Owensboro; a sister, Eleanor Graves of Lexington; three grandchildren, Lenda H. Elmlinger of Brentwood, Tenn., Nancy H. Dailey of Louisville and Margaret H. Douglas of Owensboro; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Taul Funeral Home chapel in Mount Sterling, with the Rev. Gary Scott officiating. Burial will be in Machpelah cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Active pallbearers are Badger Robertson, John Clay, Cliff Stiltz, Roger Minnick, Dick Fuller and Bill Bramblet. Honorary pallbearers are Rezin Howell, Morton Holbrook, Jim Gatewood, Will Graves, Ed Robertson and Lewis Greene. Donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Edna M. (Waltrip) Hardesty

Edna M. (Waltrip) Hardesty, 78, of 2767 Wayside Drive East died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Daviess County to Charles Waltrip and Mable (Bandy) Waltrip and was a homemaker. She was a member of Precious Blood Parish, where she was a member of Ministry of Praise, and a former member of Parish Council and Precious Blood School Board. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Arthur Hardesty, who died Oct. 26, 2000.

Survivors include six sons, Dennis and Anna Hardesty of Lillian, Ala., Moe and Debbie Hardesty of Owensboro, Bill and Paula Hardesty of Henderson, Nev., Joe Hardesty of Indianapolis, Chris and Lynne Hardesty of Louisville and Mitch and Lee Hardesty of Minneapolis; six daughters, Char Crump, Joni and Dennie Blair and Vickie and David Osborne, all of Owensboro, Shirley and Marv Bauer of Inver Grove, Minn., Monti and Eddie Millay of Owensboro and Terri and Henry Canales of Radcliff; 40 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Clarise Trodglen of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martin Catholic Church. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. The Rev. Brad Whistle will officiate. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of donations to St. Vincent DePaul Society at Precious Blood Catholic Church or Free Dental Clinic of Owensboro.

Samuel H. Reynolds

BEAVER DAM - Samuel H. Reynolds, 79, of Beaver Dam died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Maureene "Jane" Perguson Reynolds and father to only son, Samuel Thomas "Sammy" Reynolds. He was born in Ohio County to the late William Sr. and Anna Louise Reynolds. Sam and his brother, William, shared in ownership of Reynolds Auto Supply Pontiac & GMC Dealership with their father and mother, William Sr. and Anna Louise (Hill) Reynolds. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

Survivors include is wife, Ruth Maureene "Jane" Perguson Reynolds; a son, Samuel Thomas "Sammy" Reynolds of Evansville; a nephew and his wife, Dr. Reid Reynolds (Sheila) ; a niece and her husband, Lynn Ann Servis (David) ; and a brother, William Reynolds Jr. and wife Jean of Beaver Dam.

Services are at noon Monday, July 12, 2004, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at William L. Danks Funeral Home.

Bonnie H. Beard

HARDINSBURG - Bonnie H. Beard, 89, died Monday, July 5, 2004, in Frankfort. She was a housewife and member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Ken Beard and A.E. "Buzz" Beard; a brother, William Thomas Hart; and two sisters, Ruby Guy Biggam and Mollybelle Hart.

Services: 1 p.m. Thursday at Hardinsburg United Methodist Church. Burial: Ivy Hill cemetery. Visitation: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Memorial contributions: Hardinsburg United Methodist Church.

Robert P. O'Bryan Sr.

Robert P. O'Bryan Sr., 90, of 1009 Booth Ave., Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 2, 1913, in Daviess County and was retired from General Electric after 27 years. He was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church, served in many different capacities at St. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church, served many years with Knights of Columbus and was a member of Moose Lodge. He was an outdoors person and was very active in gardening, traveling, camping and fishing with all his friends. He enjoyed being with family, friends, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to be around people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Thomas and Effie Rose O'Bryan; and five brothers, Joseph, Paul, Thomas, Henry and Martin Thomas "Bebo" O'Bryan Jr.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Frances Elizabeth "Betty" O'Bryan; three sons and their wives, Raymond and Bonita O'Bryan of Minneapolis, Robert "Bob" and Lou O'Bryan Jr., and Patrick and Theresa O'Bryan, both of Owensboro; two daughters and their husbands, Jeanette and Charlie Ebelhar of Owensboro and Mary Beth and Tim Carrico of Carenco, La.; 10 grandchildren, Beth Chandler, Lori Roberts, Matt O'Bryan, Jenny Thompson, Mark O'Bryan, Christy Hart, Jackie Harrison, Michelle Alleman, Chris Carrico and Scott Carrico; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Yates and Virginia Hagan, both of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy Sweeney officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 5:30 p.m. today. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301 or American Cancer Society, 319 W. 10th St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Sue Evelyn Henry

Sue Evelyn Henry, 79, of 1303 Locust St., Owensboro, died at 7:50 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. She was born June 5, 1925, in Daviess County and was the former owner of House of Tropical Fish. She enjoyed gardening, NASCAR and tropical fish.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Anna K. and Richard Fulkerson of Owensboro.

Graveside services are at noon Wednesday at Utica cemetery. There will be no visitation. A procession will leave Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home at 11:30 a.m. to go to Utica cemetery. Burial will be in Utica cemetery.

Edith Maxine Baird

Edith Maxine Baird, 83, of Sacramento, Calif., formerly of Owensboro, died Monday, July 12, 2004, in Sacramento. A native of Ohio County, Mrs. Baird was a graduate of Dundee High School and retired in 1985 from General Electric in Owensboro after 46 years. Her husband, Delbert Baird, preceded her in death in 1965. She was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening, knitting and reading.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth Baird and his wife Ead and two grandchildren, Kenny and Keith Baird, all of Sacramento; a brother, Kenneth Harrison; a sister, Faye Farmer of Owensboro and sister Ray Shultz of Narrows.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 17, 2004, at 2:30 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Ohio County. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.

Samuel David 'Sambo' Bullington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Samuel David "Sambo" Bullington, 57, of Jacksonville passed away on July 16, 2004. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was vice president of construction for D.R. Horton Builders in Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by his father, Mose N. Bullington; and his brother, Mose "Nick" Bullington Jr.

He is survived in Jacksonville by his loving companion, Anne Auchter; his heart son, David and family; his heart daughter, Liz and family; and a multitude of great friends.

He is survived in Owensboro by his mother, Margaret Bullington; his brother, Larry Bullington; his sister, Mary Pierce and her husband Larry; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and other loving members of family and friends.

A memorial service will be held in Jacksonville on Saturday, July 24. A memorial service will be held in Owensboro at a later date. Details are pending. Expressions of sympathy can be sent to Open Arms in Jacksonville.

Robert S. Triplett IV

ARLINGTON, Va. - Robert S. Triplett IV of Arlington died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Arlington. He was born in March 1918 in Owensboro to Robert S. and Marie Triplett. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, Frederic Ames Triplett and William Beckham Triplett; and his wife, Ruth Wasli Triplett. He was a graduate of Owensboro Senior High School. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy and was a member of the class of 1940. He also attended the University of Kentucky and the University of Michigan, ultimately attaining a Ph.D. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He attended Christ Church in Alexandria, Va.

He is survived by five nieces and nephews; and two first cousins, George V. Triplett III of Owensboro and Henry A. Triplett of Louisville. He was interred at the national cemetery in Quantico, Va., with military honors.

John W. McPherson Jr.
07/22/04

John W. McPherson Jr., 57, of 251 Twin Tree Court, Apt. B., died at 8:52 p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Daviess County to John W. McPherson Sr., who died in 1981, and Marjorie McKay McPherson, who died in 1993. He retired from the Barton Brands Ltd. shipping department after 30 years. He was an associated member of AMVETS Post 75 and a member of the Catholic faith. He was past president of the Union of Barton Brands Ltd., Local 31. He enjoyed cooking and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of four years, Linda F. McPherson; a daughter, Kim Kamuf and her husband, Troy, of Owensboro; two stepsons, Gary Falloway and his wife, Mischelle, and Timmy Falloway, all of Owensboro; a grandson, Jusdin Kamuf; four stepgrandchildren, Haley Lyons, Collin Falloway, Keeley Falloway and Dayton Falloway; four brothers, Roger Dale McPherson and David McPherson and his wife, Janice, all of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Jimmy McPherson of Lexington and Barry McPherson of Myrtle Beach; and three sisters, Judy Smith and her husband, Fred, of Owensboro, Pat Davis and her husband, Allan, of Raleigh, N.C., and Janice Watson and Larry Crowe of Fordsville.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Peter cemetery in Stanley. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Peter cemetery. The Rev. John Meredith will officiate. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to John W. McPherson Jr. Memorial Fund.

Mary Helen Tanner Richardson

Mary Helen Tanner Richardson, 81, of 3704 Kipling Lane, Owensboro died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 19, 1923, in Owensboro to the late Fred Tanner and Iveta Leisure. She was a retired homemaker and a member of the Nazarene Church of Owensboro.

Survivors include her husband, Lyman A Richardson of Owensboro; a sister, Dorothy White of Wichita Falls, Texas; four sister-in-laws, Ruth Henderson, Christine Henderson and her husband Paul Henderson, Deuma Ann Hixenbaugh and Helen Tanner, all of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial in Barnett's Creek Church in Hartford. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Sunday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home.

Bruce Allen Payne
07/08/04

Bruce Allen Payne, 42, of Free Silver Road, Knottsville, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at his home. He was born in Daviess County and was a member of St. William Catholic Church. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his father, James Alvin Payne, in 1992.

Survivors include his mother, Joan Payne of Knottsville; four brothers, Ronnie Payne of Hawesville, Ricky and Kenny Payne of Knottsville and Tommy Payne of St. Johns, Ariz.; two sisters, Cathy Daugherty of Hawesville and Staci Crabtree of Utica; and six nephews and seven nieces.

Services are at 6 p.m. Friday at St. William Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. William cemetery in Knottsville. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday at the church. Cecil Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
