HARDINSBURG - Virginia Pate King, 71, of Hardinsburg died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at her residence. She was a caregiver and a member of Hites Run Baptist Church near Hardinsburg.

Survivors include her husband, Lovel P. King Jr.; two daughters, Patty Jackson and Janet Dietsch; two brothers, Roy Pate and Charles Pate; and four sisters, Bessie Burks, Mildred Brown, Margaret Pierce and Linda Robinson.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Cloverport cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Hites Run Baptist Church.

Ethel L. Hunter
07/08/04

Ethel L. Hunter, 81, of 2601 Griffith Ave., Owensboro, died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Greenville on Dec. 21, 1922, to the late James and Martha Spence Nalley. She retired in 1968 from the former Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital as a ward clerk. She was a member of First General Baptist Church and was active in the Fanny Holder Missionary Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Hunter, on Jan. 29, 1980.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Dennis Morgan of Owensboro; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and Melissa Hunter of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Tamara and spouse Ken Knight, Chad and spouse Regina Hunter and Steve and spouse Melanie Morgan; and three great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Knight, Garrett Morgan and Kendyl Knight.

Services are at 9 a.m. Friday, July 9, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, July 8, and after 8 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Kathy Jean Dame
07/22/04

ISLAND - Kathy Jean Dame, 53, of Island died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at her home in Island. Kathy was born Sept. 4, 1950, in Owensboro and was a member of the Methodist faith. She had retired from General Electric Aircraft Engine Plant in Madisonville and also enjoyed her grandchildren, her dog "Pepper" and traveling.

Survivors include her companion of more than 20 years, Dannie Bartlett; a son, Kevin Woosley of Calhoun; three grandchildren, Sabrina Woosley, Hayley Woosley and Devin Woosley; her mother, Dottie Curry of Calhoun; and a brother, Bill Dame of Madisonville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel, with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Grove cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with the Dame family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. until time of services Saturday at Musters in Calhoun.

The Dame family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Poplar Grove cemetery Fund, c/o Jerry Baggett, 5007 Pack Church Road, Rumsey, KY 42371. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.

John Brooks

OMAHA, Neb. - John Brooks, 34, of Omaha died Tuesday, July 20, 2004. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Fred Brooks.

Survivors include his wife, Kameron; three children, Drake Brooks, Johnny Brooks and Natastia Carnes; his mother, Marsha Clark of Omaha; his father, John M. Brooks of Owensboro; a sister, Charlotte Brooks of Omaha; his grandparents, Emmett and Shirley Clark of Sidney, Neb.; his grandmother, Margaret Brooks of Owensboro; his uncles and aunts, Dean and Brenda Daigger of St. Louis and Ron and Cindy Payne of Sidney; his father-in-law, Max Hooker of Grand Island, Neb.; his mother-in-law, Linda Hooker of Omaha; a brother-in-law, James Hooker; and numerous relatives and friends.

The funeral is at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church at 216 S. 34th St. There will be a private family interment. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Bethany Funeral Home in LaVista, Neb. Memorials are requested to John Brooks Memorial Fund, c/o Centris Federal Credit Union.

James William 'Jay' Howard
07/08/04

James William "Jay" Howard, 74, formerly of 1320 W. 1st St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at his daughter's home in Hawesville. He was born on March 27, 1930, in Daviess County to the late Michael Martin Howard and Maggie Lee (Higgs) Howard. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and formerly served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Kentucky Rescue Civil Defense. He was of the Pentecostal faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR racing and his family.

Survivors include his wife of almost 47 years, Mary Howard; two sons, James "Marty" Howard and Michael "Mike" Howard, both of Owensboro; a daughter, Mary "Frankie" Pinkston of Hawesville; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Belle Bowlds and Christine Walker, both of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday, July 9, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Sorgho. Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edward A. Parish Sr.
07/15/04

Mr. Edward A. Parish Sr. of 530 Yale Place died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. A native of Hopkins County, he was the son of the late Monte B. and Ann Wilson Parish. For 34 years, Mr. Parish was owner of the Dunville-Parish Chrysler-Plymouth dealership in Owensboro. A gifted athlete and sportsman, he played baseball and basketball at Hanson High School in Hopkins County where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame, and attended Vanderbilt University on a basketball scholarship. He was particularly involved with American Legion baseball and Owensboro High School baseball. Over the years, he taught hundreds of Owensboro youth to play the game. His interests also included horse racing as the owner of thoroughbreds. He was a member of First Christian Church. Mr. Parish was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Sue Parish, in August 2003; and a daughter, Nancy Parish Hina, in 1982.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan Detenber of Louisville and Cynthia Parish of Owensboro; his son, Edward Parish Jr. of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Fred Hina Jr. of Louisville, Amy Willis and Allyson Parish, both of Owensboro, Shayne Parish of Lexington, Derek Detenber of Chicago and Brandon Detenber of Louisville; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Charles Parish of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home where visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery in Madisonville.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to American Legion Post 9 baseball; c/o Jack Hicks, 2264 Hoop Jr. Court, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Howard M. Graham

EDDYVILLE - Howard M. Graham, 78, of Eddyville, formerly of Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at his home in Eddyville. Born in Elkton, he was a driver and salesman for Chesty Foods and owner of Howard's Auto Sales. Howard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and enjoyed fishing, traveling and University of Kentucky basketball. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Graham, on Nov. 14, 1993.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Wanda S. Graham; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie G. and Conrad McIntyre of Owensboro; a son, Terry W. Graham of Owensboro; four grandsons, Mike, Shannon and Kevin Carter of Owensboro and Michael Graham of St. Petersburg, Fla.; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a brother, M.T. Graham of Commerce, Ga.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro, with Brother Eugene Howard officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Samuel J. Armour

POWDERLY - Samuel J. Armour, 71, of Powderly died Friday, July 16, 2004, at his home. He retired from Greenville Car Wash.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Riley Armour; two sons, Jason Armour and Jonathan Armour; a daughter, Tina Lear; and a brother, Donald Armour Jr.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Jagoe cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Amy Katherine Tolliver
07/25/04

MADISONVILLE - Mrs. Amy Katherine Tolliver, 42, died Saturday, July 24, 2004, in the Regional Medical Center Hospital in Madisonville following several months' illness. She was born in Atlanta on Aug. 19, 1961, and lived in Madisonville. She was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College and Western Kentucky University. She was the organist at Greenville United Methodist Church and was a special education teacher at Muhlenberg South Middle School.

She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Christopher A. Tolliver of Madisonville; two daughters, Katherine LeAnn Tolliver of Madisonville and Lauren Elizabeth Tolliver of Madisonville; her mother and father, the Rev. William W. and Dorothy Bowling of Louisville; one sister, Nancy L. (Brad) Wood of Lexington; one brother, the Rev. John W. (Lisa) Bowling of Middlesboro; and her grandmother, Mrs. Eva Whitehouse of Lexington.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 28, at 11 a.m. from Greenville United Methodist Church by the Rev. Vernon Perdue, pastor, and the Rev. John W. Bowling. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery in Madisonville. Friends may call at Gary's Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 27 between 5 and 9 p.m. and on Wednesday after 9 a.m. at Greenville United Methodist Church. Memorial gifts may be made to the Tolliver Children Education Fund, c/o Greenville Untied Methodist Church in Greenville, Ky.

Carol Mills Raley

HENDERSON - Mary Carol Mills Raley, 58, of Henderson died at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Methodist Hospital.

She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Henderson and St. Augustine Catholic Church in Reed. Carol was warm and loving. She had a unique way of making each person feel special. Her sharp but warm wit kept us smiling and laughing. Her beautiful voice entertained us. Carol loved sewing, making stained glass art, working her crossword puzzles, talking with her e-mail family and picking out plants for Bruce's garden. Spoiling her grandchildren was her favorite pastime. More than anything, Carol loved Bruce, Kim and Krista, her family, friends and her Catholic faith.

She was preceded in death by her dad, Arnold Sylvester Mills, and her nephew, Bob Carrico.

Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Richard Bruce Raley; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kimberly Ann and Paul Watson of Frankfort and Krista Lynne and Keith Harris of Benton; her mother, Rose Mills of Lexington; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Constance Ann Mills of Bowling Green, Veronica Jean and Bobby Carrico of Mayfield, Barbara Jan and Jim Gish of Arcanum, Ohio, Patricia Rose and Tom Reynolds of Frankfort and Kathleen Erin Mills of Lexington; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James Monaghan and Becky Mills and Anthony David and Anne Mills, all of Lexington and Donald Linus Mills of Yokosuka, Japan; seven grandchildren, Jordan Harris, Ben Watson, Jake Harris, Madeleine Watson, Rachel Harris, Julia Harris and Hope Harris; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Monday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Reed. Father J. Edward Bradley will officiate. Burial will be in St. Augustine cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and until 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson where prayers will be said at 5 p.m. today.
