Anna Katherine Kittinger Sharp

ARLINGTON, Texas - Anna Katherine Kittinger Sharp, 93, of Arlington, formerly of Owensboro, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at her home in Arlington. She was born Aug. 11, 1910, in Ohio County to Oppie Kittinger and Lelia Drake Kittinger and was a music teacher for 40 years. She was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church, played violin in church for 40 years and was a Sunday school teacher and director of the children's choir. She was a member of the Saturday Musical Department of Owensboro Womans Club and WMU of Buena Vista Baptist Church and was a graduate of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl D. Sharp, who died Aug. 22, 1963; and three brothers, Albert Kittinger, Oscar Kittinger and Cecil Kittinger.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Suzanne Mitchell and Richard of Arlington and Linda Stockton and George of Murray; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Chinn of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Treon will officiate. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of donations to Buena Vista Baptist Church, 119 W. 24th St., Owensboro, KY 42303 or Oneida Baptist Institute, Box 67, Oneida, KY 40972 or a favorite charity.

Angela Joy Elliott

LEWISPORT - Angela Joy Elliott, 47, of Lewisport passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at her home. She was born Nov. 25, 1956, in Columbus, Ga., and was a housewife.

She is survived by two daughters, Alicia Elliott and Audra Elliott, both of Hawesville; one son, Tim Hess of Owensboro; four grandchildren, Brittany of Owensboro, Devin Blake Elliott of Hawesville, Logan Taylor Forler of Hawesville and Christina Craig of Owensboro; one brother, Michael Knight of Killeen, Texas; and one niece, Mallory Knight of Killeen.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville with the Rev. Dale Brown officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be at Gibson & Son Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until time of service on Monday.

Jo Carol 'Jody' Whitten Wiggins

CENTERTOWN - Jo Carol "Jody" Whitten Wiggins, 54, of Beaver Dam, formerly of Centertown, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004. She was born in Centertown, attended Centertown Elementary and graduated from Ohio County High School. She was a member of Walton Creek Baptist Church and was employed as a maintenance resource leader at D.B. Wilson Plant of Western Kentucky Energy in Matanzas. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Centertown Chapter No. 78. She was active in several organizations, including Ohio County United Way and Ohio County Repair Fair and was the coordinator for Western Kentucky Energy in Celebrate the Child. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jo Nell Sheffield Whitten, in 1993.

Survivors include her husband, Dan Wiggins of Beaver Dam; a son, Chris Smith of Louisville; a stepson, Daniel Hardwick of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Angela McQueary of Connersville, Ind.; three brothers, Keith, Kevin and Kenny Whitten, all of Centertown; a sister, Candy Whitten of Centertown; a grandson, Luke Smith; two granddaughters, Alison and Britney McQueary; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Centertown. Burial will follow in Centertown cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Eastern Star services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Judy Ann Boyken Woosley

LIVERMORE - Judy Ann Boyken Woosley, 46, of Livermore changed her address to Heaven on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, where she was surrounded by her family. Judy was born Oct. 16, 1957, in Owensboro to Murray and Jewell Boyken and was later married to Mike "Chunk" Woosley. She had been employed by the McLean County Board of Education for 15 years and was currently serving as the head cook at Livermore Elementary School. She loved her family very much and always put others before herself. Judy lived a very simple and modest life and was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. Judy was a hard worker and appreciated the smallest things people did for her. Her husband, Mike "Chunk" Woosley, died Aug. 24, 2002; and her father, Murray Boyken, who died Aug. 24, 2003.

Survivors include a daughter, Catherine LeAnn Woosley of Livermore; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Murray Nelson "Neal" Woosley of Livermore and Ellis and Joanie Woosley of Greenville; two grandchildren, Michael Notestine and Makayla Woosley; her mother, Jewell Boyken of Island; a sister and her husband, Cheri and Chris Hall of Bowling Green; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Murray Lee Boyken of Island and Terry Lynn and Joyce Boyken of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel, with the Rev. Barney Priar officiating. Friends may visit with the Woosley family from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at Musters in Livermore.

The Woosley family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Judy Ann Boyken Woosley Memorial Fund, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 228, Livermore, KY 42352. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Livermore.

Hugh Lee Lynn

Hugh Lee Lynn, 83, of Owensboro died at 5:20 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. He was born Jan. 30, 1921, in McLean County to the late Wallace and Mable Lynn. He was a graduate of Calhoun High School, served in the Air Force and was a veteran of World War II. He was a technician for E.A. Carter and retired from Trucking & Industrial. He was known as the "Carburetor Man." He loved NASCAR and University of Kentucky basketball.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Grace Lynn; a brother and his wife, Elmer and Hazel Lynn of Owensboro; four stepchildren, Bill Thompson of Louisville, Donald Thompson of Michigan and Melinda Stinnett and Greg Prush of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Waddell, Will Stinnett and Kayleen Prush, all of Owensboro, Brandy Prush and Johnna Prush, both of Indianapolis, and Donald Thompson Jr. and Bradley Thompson, both of Michigan; six great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Owensboro Memorial Gardens in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Marie Gatton Phillips

SACRAMENTO - Marie Gatton Phillips, 92, of Sacramento died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Hermitage Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. Marie Gatton Phillips was born Nov. 7, 1911, in Muhlenberg County to the late Harry William and Edith Pearl Gatton Sr. She graduated from the former Bremen High School in 1929, attended the Bethel Women's College and graduated from Western Kentucky State Teachers College in 1936. Marie retired from teaching after 40 years of service in both McLean and Muhlenberg counties. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, an honor society for teachers. During her years in high school, Marie taught both English and Speech. One year at the high school level, eight out of 10 of her students who entered the district and regional competitions were winners and two out of eight students went on to win state honors at the University of Kentucky. At the grade school level she introduced the "Unit" method of teaching. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bremen and started the Bethlehem Baptist Church Library, where she remained church librarian for 13 years. Marie also served as an NEA delegate from Kentucky's 2nd Educational District of 2,200 teachers when the convention was held in Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Phillips; her second husband, Frank Luysterburg; and by two brothers, Harry W. Gatton Jr. and Charles W. Gatton.

Survivors include a brother and his wife, C.M. "Bill" and Leigh Gatton and their daughter, Chase, of Kingsport, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Gatton of Rumsey and Lorene Gatton of Bremen; a nephew, Charles W. Gatton Jr. of Bremen; two nieces, Suzane Gatton of Owensboro and Charlotte Cobun of Morgantown, W.Va.; two great-nephews, Brent Gatton and Cord Cobun; and a great-niece, Christen Marie Gatton-Stokes.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bremen, with the Rev. Michael Rust, the Rev. Patrick E. McDowell and the Rev. Roy Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church cemetery. Friends may visit with the Gatton family from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church. A video tribute of Mrs. Marie Gatton Phillips' life will be presented at 7 p.m. today at Musters in Calhoun.

Hallie Humphrey

DEPOY - Mrs. Hallie Humphrey, 81, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 3:55 p.m. at her home in Depoy, following several months' illness. She was born in Muhlenberg County on Sept. 22, 1922. She was a member of White Plains Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Humphrey Sr., in 1942; a son, Claude Humphrey Jr.; and three brothers, Fount Majors, Henry Thomas Majors and Jessie Majors.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 7, at 1 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home by the Rev. Wallace Carlton. Burial will be in Yeargins Chapel cemetery in Graham.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Ann (Glendel) Garrett of Greenville; two sons, Clarence (Debbie) Humphrey of Greenville and Charles (Ann) Humphrey of Paducah; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Flora VanVactor of White Plains; a brother, Orville Majors of White Plains; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today, Aug. 6, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Wesley Matthew Franklin

GREENVILLE - Mr. Wesley Matthew Franklin, 59, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, in Muhlenberg Community Hospital after several weeks of illness. He was an Army veteran and a deputy coroner for Muhlenberg County.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy Franklin; four brothers, Charles Franklin, Anthony Franklin, Timothy Franklin and David Franklin; a sister, Regina Crick; and his mother, Dorothy Franklin.

Services: 1 p.m. Sunday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial: Evergreen cemetery in Greenville. Visitation: From 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Clara Bennett Black

BEAVER DAM - Clara Bennett Black, 76, of 3778 Liberty Road, Beaver Dam, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at home. She was born Nov. 6, 1927, in Ohio County to the late Eckles A. Bennett and Elizabeth Stevens Bennett. She retired as a clerk from Young Hardware in Beaver Dam and was a homemaker. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, Liberty United Methodist Women and Liberty Homemakers. She was preceded in death by three brothers, George Bennett, in 1938, Alva Bennett, in 1997, and Calvin S. Bennett, in 2003; and a sister, Shirley Hobleich, in 1993.

Survivors include her husband, Charles E. Black of Beaver Dam; a son, Eldred Bennett Black and his wife, Sandra, of Beaver Dam; a daughter, Edna Jane White and her husband, John, of Cromwell; three granddaughters, Emily Clark and her husband, Cory, of Owensboro, Kimberly Burden and her husband, Jason, of Cromwell and Jonaka Hall and her husband, Jared, of Covington; a grandson, Lance Bennett Black of Beaver Dam; and two great-grandsons, Colby Clark of Owensboro and Drake Burden of Cromwell; and three brothers, Talmage (Ted) Bennett of Anderson, Ind., Delmar Bennett of Jeffersonville, Ind., and the Rev. Charles T. Bennett of Owensboro.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home, with the Rev. Peggy Smith and the Rev. Charles T. Bennett officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Ohio County, 1211 Main St., Hartford, KY 42347, or Liberty United Methodist Church, c/o June Martin, 1010 North Broad St., Beaver Dam, KY 42320.

Lillian Moss

Lillian Moss, 97, of Curdsville died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Nov. 11, 1906, in McLean County to Jeff Smith and Fronia Keller Smith. She was a homemaker and member of Curdsville Baptist Church. Her husband, Dorsey "Bill" L. Moss, died in 1990.

Survivors include a sister, Lockie Mattingly of Curdsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethel cemetery in Beech Grove. The Rev. Gary Upchurch will officiate. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Curdsville Baptist Church.
