BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY - Dylus Carman, 95, of Breckinridge County died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004. He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Carman; and a daughter, Betty Baysinger.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Madrid cemetery. Visitation: From 3:30 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Hospice of Central Kentucky.

Roy Shultz Anderson

Roy Shultz Anderson, 89, of 6294 Old Highway 54, Philpot, passed away Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess County to the late Samuel and Bessie Howard Anderson. He was a member of Dawson Baptist Church and a four-year Army veteran of World War II and enjoyed working on and repairing equipment. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh, Carl and Elmer Anderson.

Surviving is his sister, Melba Hagman of Owensboro; and two brothers, John E. Anderson of Philpot and William "Billy" Anderson of Owensboro.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, at Glenn Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Sorgho Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mattie H. 'Martha' Jones

Mattie H. "Martha" Jones, 72, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at her home. She was born in Daviess County to the late Lester Z. and Mary E. Brown Higdon. She was a homemaker and member of Immaculate Catholic Church, and she enjoyed camping and fishing. She was preceded in death, Robert A. Jones, on April 10, 2003; and her son, Charles R. Jones, in November 2000.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Robert Brent and Donna Jones of Owensboro and David A. and Cathy Jones of Owensboro; two sisters, Margie Herman of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Jane Mitchell of Louisville; a brother, Albert Higdon of Cincinnati; four grandchildren, Clint and Ashley Jones, Jennifer Wynne and Janeen Leonard; and a great-grandchild, Keegan Leonard.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, at Christ Chapel in Owensboro Memorial Gardens, where ennichment will follow after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Association, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Ora Cecil Mackey

Ora Cecil Mackey, 90, of Owensboro died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at the Carmel Home. Miss Mackey was born in Daviess County the daughter of the late Barney and Mona Baird Mackey. She received her BS in elementary education from Western Kentucky State University, her MS in administration and supervision from Indiana University and continued her post graduate work at the University of Kentucky and George Peabody College for Teachers. Miss Mackey was a member of First Baptist Church. Her professional career included service as a primary teacher at Utica School, principal at Snyder School, elementary supervisor for the Daviess County schools, director of elementary education for the Daviess County schools and instructor of teaching of reading and introduction to education at both Kentucky Wesleyan and Brescia colleges. Her professional affiliations included being a member and president of Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, corresponding secretary of Alpha Gamma State of Delta Kappa Gamma, a charter member of the Owensboro branch of the American Association of University Women, a life member of the National Education Association, a member of the state and national Association for Administration and Supervisors, the local, state and national International Reading Association, member and state secretary of the Association for Childhood Education, a member of the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, a member of the board of directors of Kentucky Educational Supervisors, the Owensboro Council for Retarded Citizens and a charter member of the Council for Exceptional Children. She was involved in civics as board member and president of the Owensboro-Daviess County Mental Health Association, a member of the Task Force-Children in Need of Supervision, on the Educational Committee of the Family Life Council, a board member of the American Red Cross, and board member, secretary and member of the executive committee of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. Miss Mackey was listed in Who's Who in American Education. Her brother, James H. "Bubbie" Mackey, preceded her in death.

She is survived by her brother and his wife, Allen Dean and Mary B. O'Bryan-Mackey of St. Joseph; a nephew, Jay Mackey of Utica; two nieces, Mary M. Elliott of Owensboro and Ann Powers of Utica; and nine great-nieces and great-nephews, Jeff Mackey, James J. Mackey, Burns Mackey, Mari-Scarlett Mackey, Ashley Powers Ferguson, Hadley Powers Embry, Allie E. Powers, Jill Elliott Johnson and Kerribeth Elliott.

Services are at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home where visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Utica cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.

Harles Richard Payne

Harles Richard Payne, 73, of Owensboro died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital in Evansville. Born Jan. 1, 1931, he was the son of the late Richard Harles and Viola Frances Miles Payne. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where he served as a liturgical minister. He was instrumental in establishing the St. Pius X Day Care Center and Kindergarten, where he served on the board for many years. He had also served as a Eucharistic minister. He retired from Owensboro Mercy Health System, where he was plant engineer for 19 years. He was owner of H.R. Payne Service Co. for 19 years and was co-owner of Kid Crossing Day Care. His interests were remodeling and renovating and he was a member of the 9 a.m. Wesleyan Park Plaza McDonalds World Problem Solving and Coffee Drinkers Club. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Oralee Schultz, Mary Oneida Gilmore, Mary Oma Cronin and Mary Imogene Payne; and a granddaughter, Cameron Michelle Howard.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Barrett Payne; three daughters, Debbie (and her husband, Greg) Hayden, Marcy (and her husband, Keith) Howard, both of Owensboro, and Carol Higdon of Cynthiana; and three sons, Stephen R. Payne, Chris (and his wife, Cheryl) Payne of Owensboro and Kevin (and his wife, Christina) Payne of Jacksonville, Fla. He was devoted to his six grandsons; 11 granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce (and her husband, Stewart) Howard and Delores (and her husband, Bill) Blincoe of Owensboro; an aunt, Helen Miles of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, with burial in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after noon Friday. Prayers will be at 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to National Kidney Foundation or the Free Clinic of Owensboro.

Stephen W. Sharp

Stephen W. Sharp, 47, of 500 Allen St., Owensboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System, due to complications from a heart condition. He was born on Dec. 25, 1956, in Owensboro. He was previously employed at Commonwealth Aluminum Co. for more than 17 years. He was a member of The Vineyard Baptist Fellowship.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Betty and George Moseley of Owensboro; his father, Clyde Sharp of Owensboro; and a half brother, Roger Lindsey of Owensboro.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. today and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to The Vineyard Baptist Fellowship, 1501 E. 26th St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Logan Scott Lamar Stinnett

HARNED - Logan Scott Lamar Stinnett, 3 months, of Harned died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include his parents, Scott and Cheryl Stinnett; two sisters, Marianna and Sylvia Stinnett; his grandparents, Mary Patt and Glenn York, Edward and Nelda Powers and David Stinnett Sr.; and his great-grandmother, Starr Puckett.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Zion Church near Westview. Burial: Westview cemetery. Visitation: From 3:30 to 8 p.m. today at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home and from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Wayne Tharp

CALHOUN - Wayne Tharp, 56, of Calhoun died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at his home. He was a farmer and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include a son, Franklin Tharp; a brother, William Tharp; and a sister, Wilma Knight.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial: Poplar Grove cemetery. Visitation: After 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Clem Cecil

Clem Cecil, 92, formerly of Thruston, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in West Louisville to the late Oliver and Loretta Murphy Cecil. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was retired from farming. He had farmed the T.J. Bartlett and Jagoe farms before purchasing his own farm in Knottsville in 1965. He was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, past member of the Trust Division on Farm Management at Central Bank & Trust Co., past member of the Lions Club, past president of Kentucky Farm Bureau of Daviess County, had served on the board of Knottsville Credit Union and at St. Williams Catholic Church and was a Kentucky Colonel.

He loved to fish and one of his greatest enjoyments was going fishing with his brothers on their yearly fishing trip to Cumberland Lake and also going fishing with his grandchildren at Kentucky Lake. He enjoyed helping out with the cooking at some of the local Catholic church picnics and gardening, where he always made sure he gave plenty of vegetables to some of the rest homes in the area and to the Help Office of Owensboro.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Elizabeth Wink Cecil, on June 28, 1980; a son, John David Cecil, on Oct. 4, 1975; a daughter, Margaret Cecil Terry, on Nov. 27, 1991; a grandson, Michael Greene, on Nov. 27, 1967; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Mattingly, on Feb. 15, 2002; a brother, Dick Cecil, on Aug. 7, 1994; and two sisters, Teresa Ling, on Jan. 22, 1999, and Toby Matthews, on Aug. 29, 2002.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Castlen Cecil; five daughters and spouses, Sister Ann Patrice Cecil of Maple Mount, Dorothy and Doug Hood of Owensboro, Joan and Mickey Greene of Rockport, Ind., Rose Mary and Cyrus "Bubby" Sharp of Gilbertsville and Teresa and Jeff Gray of Philpot; two stepdaughters and spouses, Carolyn and Ronald Brown of Beaver Dam and Mary Ann and John McKinney of Richmond; four sons and spouses, Thomas M. and Mary (DeHart) Cecil of Philpot, Joseph C. and Diann (Meredith) Cecil and Donald L. and Charlotte (Schrecker) Cecil, all of Owensboro, and William P. Cecil of Powder Springs, Ga.; four stepsons and spouses, Earl and Peggy (Franey) Castlen of Lewisport, Donald and Sandy (Johnson) Castlen of Philpot, Sherill and Julie (Head) Castlen and Tim and Debbie (Young) Castlen, all of Maceo; four sisters and spouses, Jean Keller, Margaret Oberst and Alicia and Bill Wright, all of Owensboro, and Polly and Jake Leibfreid of Bowling Green; a brother and his spouse, Louis and Mary Elizabeth Cecil of Owensboro; 29 grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Williams Catholic Church, with burial following in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with prayers at 6:30 p.m., and after 9 a.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, P.O. Box 8025, Owensboro, KY 42302.

Margie H. Hardesty

Margie H. Hardesty, 79, of 311 E. 22nd St., Owensboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Bellemeade Nursing Home in Greenville. She was born on June 23, 1925, in Muhlenberg County to the late James A. and Anna Nell (Jarnigan) Hendricks. She retired as station manager for Hertz Car Rental and was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Hardesty, on June 22, 1981.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Hardesty of Owensboro; three daughters, Myra (Larry) Bender of Central City, Rebecca "B.J." Hardesty of Bloomington, Ind., and Linda (Bill) Kerchusky of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Lehner, Hal Bender, Cynda Hardesty and Julie Anne Kerchusky; two stepgrandchildren, Brian Kamuf and Jeremy Kamuf; a great-grandchild, Katherine Lehner; and two sisters, Mary Gish of Evansville and Thelma Boling of Glendale, Ariz.

Services are at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial is in Resurrection cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at James H. Davis Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 6:45 p.m. today. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association, Greater Kentucky and Southern Indiana Chapter, Chapter Processing Center, 3703 Taylorsville Road, Suite 120, Louisville, KY 40220-1330.
