Thomas Carl Fulkerson

BEAVER DAM - Thomas Carl Fulkerson, 86, of Beaver Dam died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at his home. He was born May 2, 1918, in Ohio County, the son of Thomas King and Ollie Lee Downey Fulkerson. He married Lorene Robinson, also of Ohio County, on Oct. 18, 1950, in Corinth, Miss. Mr. Fulkerson retired in 1980 from Tennessee Valley Authority power plant in Drakesboro. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Pond Run Baptist Church in Echols.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 38th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. His squadron was among the first group of Americans to enter Paris during its liberation and was also briefly assigned to accompany Dwight Eisenhower. He was a two-time Purple Heart recipient, having been wounded in hedgerow fighting in Normandy and later badly wounded in an explosion in France. He was preceded in death by his three brothers and four sisters, Iva Fulkerson, Myrtle Bowen, Dora Leslie, Kenneth Fulkerson, Flossie Lewis, Cecil Fulkerson and Ernest Fulkerson.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene and their four children, Shirley Ann (husband, Malcolm) Barnes of Chiggerville, James L. (wife, Susan) Fulkerson of Hartford, Robert K. (wife, Delona) Fulkerson of Beaver Dam and Glenn D. (wife, Kimberly) Fulkerson of Springfield, Ill; and his 12 grandchildren, Malcolm S.T.J. Barnes, Joshua T. Fulkerson, Joseph H.R. (wife, Carrie) Barnes, Zachary B. Fulkerson, Jillian L. Fulkerson, Nicholas K. Fulkerson, Nathan K. Fulkerson, Kaitlyn P. Fulkerson, Ashley L. Fulkerson, Madelyn S. Fulkerson, Thomas R. Fulkerson and Benjamin J. Fulkerson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation and services will be at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. and Friday beginning at 9 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Steve Sorrels and the Rev. Willis McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at Pond Run cemetery.

Bernie Eugene Edwards

GREENVILLE - Bernie Eugene Edwards, 78, of Greenville died last week at his home in Greenville. He was born in Muhlenberg County on Oct. 23, 1925, and was a retired hair stylist. He served in World War II and the Korean War as the youngest chief petty officer in the Navy at the time. He was active in both judo and boxing. Later, he spent time in Los Angeles as a working actor. He owned his own hair salon at the Ambassador Hotel in Beverly Hills. He was a wonderful and special person, a loving father, brother and friend who will be missed terribly by his family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Blake Edwards of Chicago; three daughters, Kimberly Edwards Klytta of Park Ridge, Ill., and Karen and Donna; two grandchildren, Isabella and Alexander; two brothers, Douglas Edwards and Hildred Edwards, both of Powderly; and three sisters, Anna Bouvia of Buff, N.Y., Marion Vincent of Central City and Carolyn Bowen of Powderly.

Funeral services will be this evening at 8 p.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Visitation will be this evening from 3 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Town of Maine cemetery in Park Ridge, Ill.

Erica Dawn Alvarado

Erica Dawn Alvarado, infant daughter of Destiny Tackett and Alberto Alvarado of Owensboro, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System.

Other survivors include her maternal grandmother, Tammy Tackett; her maternal grandfather, Keith Leachman; maternal great-grandparents, Jim and Dorothy Proctor; paternal grandparents, Viviano and Matilde Alvarado; and a sister, Nina Alcantar.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Friday at Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation: From 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro.

Beatrice Louise Drake Smith

DRAKESBORO - Beatrice Louise Drake Smith, 70, of Drakesboro died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville after a lengthy illness. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Bertha Louise Piper; four sons, Darrell Ray Smith, Roger Dale Smith, Bobby Joe Smith and Danny Kay Smith; four brothers, Larry Drake, Lonnie Drake, Jerry Drake and Rosco Drake; and three sisters, Dorene Hoops, Loise Cook and Clarabell Yates.

Services: 11 a.m. today at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial: Wilcox cemetery in Powderly. Visitation: After 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Clovis Lynch

OLATON - Clovis Lynch, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Christian County.

Survivors include a brother, Charles Lynch; and three sisters, Wilma Stone, Pearlie Arnold and Helen Hanks.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial: Mount Vernon cemetery near Olaton. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

William T. 'Bill' Head

William T. "Bill" Head, 33, of 704 Poindexter St., Owensboro, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. Bill leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will miss his ready smile, helping hand and caring heart. He was born Dec. 16, 1970, in Daviess County to Charles Head Sr. and Brenda Howard Lindsey and was employed at Ace Lube as assistant manager for seven years. He was a member of the Catholic faith and enjoyed being outdoors, fishing with his brothers and, especially, barbecuing. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Head Sr., in 1993.

Survivors include his fiancee, Kimberly Morris; and he was the loving father of Tyler and Travis, both at home. Other survivors include his mother, Brenda Lindsey of Owensboro; his stepfather, David Lindsey of Owensboro; his grandparents, Thurman and Marie Howard of Owensboro; two brothers, Charles Head Jr. and John Michael Head and his wife, Tara, all of Owensboro; a niece, Annie Wood; and three nephews, Matthew Head and John and Allen Head.

Services are at 2 p.m. today at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Elba. The Rev. Dennis McFadden will officiate. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to William T. "Bill" Head Memorial Fund.

Allen Duane Harper

CLEATON - Allen Duane Harper, 50, of Cleaton died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was a truck driver.

Survivors include four sons, Danny Harper, Dean O'Reilly, Don O'Reilly and Adam Slinker; a daughter, Brandy Bratcher; his mother and stepfather, Billie Faye and Chico Rodriguez; his father and stepmother, Willie D. and Judy Harper; two brothers, Michael Bentancourt and Mark Bentancourt; and four sisters, Martha Lavori, Becky Woods, Karen Anderson and Sharon Franklin.

Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Miller cemetery in Cleaton. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Della Mae Daniel

BOWLING GREEN - Della Mae Daniel, 94, of Bowling Green died at 7:55 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She was born Nov. 14, 1909, in Hartford to the late James Daniel and Lillie (Milburn) Daniel and was a retired school teacher. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church. She was a teacher for 42 years and taught in Ohio County schools and Bowling Green city schools and retired from Western Kentucky University. She was a member of Retired Teachers and Kentucky Teachers Associations. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and received her masters and Rank One from Western Kentucky University. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Wilma Porter.

Survivors include a brother, James W. Daniel of Lewisburg; a sister, Erma Daniel Hunt of Bowling Green; four nieces, Suellen Hopkins, Rebecca Games and Ruth Daniel, all of Owensboro, and Louise Schroder of Hartford; three nephews, Alan Hunt of Chattanooga, Tenn., Jim Daniel of Indianapolis and Jim Porter of Hartford; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Chapel. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

John E. Beisel

ELIZABETHTOWN - John E. Beisel, 88, of Elizabethtown died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at North Hardin Health & Rehabilitation Center in Radcliff. A veteran of World War II, he retired from the U.S. Army and Civil Service at Fort Knox. He was preceded in death by his two wives, Phyllis Beisel and Julia Beisel.

He is survived by six daughters, Bonnie Ridgway, Joan Sanborn and Janice (Joe) Masterson of Elizabethtown, Linda (Gary) Kabalen of Owensboro, Diana (Dan) Heaberlin of Paintsville and Amanda (Joey) Janes of Buffalo; a son, John Robert (Susan) Beisel of Owensboro; a brother, Calvin Beisel of Tulsa, Okla.; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A private burial will be at North Hardin Memorial Gardens in Radcliff. Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson-Edelen-Bennett Funeral Home in Radcliff. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to a favorite charity.

Virginia H. Ford

LEWISPORT - Virginia H. Ford, 77, of Lewisport died there Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Heartland Villa.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Taylor; and two sisters, Doris Johnson and Juanita Jimenez.

Graveside services: 1 p.m. Monday at Oakwood cemetery in Adrian, Mich. Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport is in charge of arrangements.

Sylvia Dale Hall Miller

Sylvia Dale Hall Miller, 67, of Owensboro died there Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. She retired from Montpelier Glove Factory and was a member of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Maceo.

Survivors include a sister, Cheryl Butts.

Services: 1 p.m. today at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Burial: Burton Hill cemetery in Manitou. Visitation: After 10 a.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Dawson Memorial Baptist Church, c/o Moreland Duncan, 8945 Aubrey Road, Maceo, KY 42355.

Frank Charles Ridgeway

Frank Charles Ridgeway, 59, of 615 Dornell St., Owensboro, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on Oct. 25, 1944, in Beaumont, Texas, to the late Waymon W. and Mae (Emberton) Ridgeway. He was formerly the head baker for Dan Dee Bakery. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam era and was a former member of the AMVETS, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include two sons, Frank C. Brewer and Michael Stewart, both of Owensboro; several grandchildren; and a brother, Ritter W. "R.W." Ridgeway of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at James H. Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and from noon until 2 p.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home.
