BEAVER DAM - Gerald Dewayne Irvin, 43, of Dundee died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Simpson County. He was born in Harlan County and was a carpenter.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith Ann Irvin and Melissa Kay Irvin, both of Texas; two brothers, Michael Irvin of Dundee and Leon and (sister-in-law) Kathy Irvin of Lewisburg; three sisters, Joan Steele and husband Larry of Paducah, Sheila Steele of Paducah and Regina Cleaver and fiancé Paul Brewster of Beaver Dam.

Services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Taylor Mine cemetery near Beaver Dam. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Christopher Wayne 'Shorty' Head

Christopher Wayne "Shorty" Head, 29, of Owensboro died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, in Muhlenberg County. He was formerly employed by Clayton Mobile Homes and attended Owensboro Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Hoover Head; a stepdaughter, Hayley Nicole Hoover; his mother, Debbie Roberson; his father, Darrell Head; a brother, William Louden; two sisters, Crystal McMannaway and Wendy Divine; and his grandparents, Patsy and George Head and Bernadette Wilkerson.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation: After 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Christopher Wayne Head Memorial Fund, 709 1/2 Bolivar St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Ruth Bernice Evitts

Ruth Bernice Evitts, 81, of Roosevelt House I, Owensboro, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born June 21, 1923, in Luzerne to the late William and Syble Wilma (Holmes) Thompson. She retired from General Motors Corp. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Robert Evitts, on April 17, 1994.

She is survived by a son, Robert C. Evitts of Owensboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Sue Kohllman and Allen of Dunnelon, Fla.; five grandchildren, Gregory Kohllman, Samuel Kohllman, Daniel Kohllman, Jody Lyn Evitts and Melody Amber Evitts; and a great-granddaughter, Sunshine Marie Kohllman.

Services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in New Cypress cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Gary R. Carver

CLOVERPORT - Gary R. Carver, 54, of Cloverport died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at his home. He was a member of Cloverport Baptist Church and retired from Weyerhaeuser in Hancock County. He was born Oct. 14, 1949, in Cloverport to the late Ellis Ray Carver and Vina Mae Marsh Carver.

Survivors include his wife, Eddie Sue Carver of Cloverport; two daughters, Natasha Brown of Hardinsburg and Jennifer Kuhn of Douglasville, Pa.; two brothers, Gene Carver of Lewisport and Jerry Carver of Cloverport; two sisters, Sue Maysey and Barbara Simmons, both of Cloverport; and four grandchildren.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at Cloverport Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Robbins and the Rev. Robert Sandford officiating. Burial will be in Cloverport cemetery. Visitation is from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 9, and after 8 a.m. Friday at Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport. Memorial contributions may be made to Frank Mitchell Cancer Center in Owensboro. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Marvin Leroy Williams

Marvin Leroy Williams, 80, formerly of 8475 W. 5th Street Road, Owensboro, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Bon Harbor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. He was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Beals to the late Charlie and Nancy Jane (Carver) Williams. He was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Pentecostal Fellowship and an Army veteran of World War II. He loved mowing grass, fishing and playing music.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Wanda Louise Williams; a stepdaughter, Patty Reneer of Owensboro; and a nephew, Eddie Williams of Henderson.

A public graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation will be private. James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Marvin Leroy Williams Memorial Fund, c/o Wanda Williams, Apt. 309, 1651 W. 4th St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Charles Wesley Taylor

Charles Wesley Taylor, 80, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, in Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was born in Greenville on Sept. 4, 1924, the son of Thomas C. and Laura Pittman Taylor. Upon completion of his education at University of Kentucky he returned to Greenville to pursue his career in journalism. He was associated with the Greenville Leader for 49 years, serving as editor until his retirement in 1999. He was a lifelong member of Greenville Country Club and served on its board of directors. He was a member of Greenville United Methodist Church of the Live Wire Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary McDonald Taylor; a twin brother, Tom Taylor; a sister, Jean Thompson; and a grandchild, Sally Ann Cornette.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 11, at 2 p.m. at Greenville United Methodist Church.

He is survived by three daughters, Margaret Cornette of Greenville and Melissa Linkes and Elizabeth Theobald, both of Lexington; a sister, Ann Mulligan of Greenville; five grandchildren, Amy Cornette Henderson, Charlie Cornette, Thad Cornette, Mallory Theobald and Abby Theobald; and two great-grandchildren, Ben and Tom Henderson.

Friends may call Saturday after 11:30 a.m. and until memorial service time at 2 p.m. at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Greenville United Methodist Church or the Muhlenberg County Humane Society.

Ina Mae McReynolds Overhults

CENTERTOWN - Ina Mae McReynolds Overhults, 92, of Equality, near Centertown, died Sept. 8, 2004, at Beaver Dam Health Care Manor. Mae was born May 25, 1912, in Allen County to the late Claud and Pearlie (Dinwiddie) McReynolds. She married William Mitchel Overhults of Ohio County on May 15, 1937, in Allen County.

Mae graduated in 1929 from Scottsville High School in Allen County and from Western Kentucky State Teachers College in August 1936. She taught school at Harris, Buck Creek and Rocky Hill in Allen County and later at Cromwell and Centertown in Ohio County before retiring from Centertown School in 1974. Remembered as a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, teacher, friend and neighbor, she was a member of Ohio County Retired Teachers Association, a former member of Matanzas (Ohio County) Homemakers Club and a member of West Point Baptist Church in Matanzas. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wayne Overhults; a daughter, Carol Faye Overhults; and a brother, Willie Goodson McReynolds.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Kenneth Overhults (Patty Jo) of Lexington, Juanita Brown (Bob) of Cookeville, Tenn., and Douglas Overhults (Elaine) of Princeton; five grandchildren, Marcia O. Watts (Tim) of Lexington, Joseph Overhults (Amber) of Louisville, Mark Brown (Rachel) of Franklin, Tenn., Brian Brown (Kristi) of Nashville and Wesley Overhults of Princeton; and a great-grandson, Andrew Brown of Franklin. She is also survived by a sister, Vernice Sexton of Scottsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at West Point Baptist Church on Highway 85 west of Centertown, with the Rev. William Holladay officiating. Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Duke-Bevil Brothers Funeral Home Centertown and after noon Saturday at the church prior to the funeral. Tommie England

Tommie England, 87, of Sterling Court, Owensboro, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. George Thomas England was born Jan. 15, 1917, in McLean County to the late George and Sallie Smith England and was later married to the former Gladys Marie Coomes on July 10, 1937, at the St. Martin Catholic Church in Rome. Tommie had retired from Green Coal Co. after 28 years of service and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Owensboro.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Gladys; a son and his wife, Tommy and Brenda England of Calhoun; a daughter and her husband, Peggy and David Vanover of Windy Hollow; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Calhoun with Father John Meredith and Father Gerald Calhoun officiating. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Friends may visit with the England family from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Prayer services for Mr. Tommie England and a video tribute of his life will be held at 6 p.m. today at Musters in Calhoun.

The England family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to St. Sebastian Catholic Church, Building Fund, 180 Kentucky 136 West, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Calhoun.

Grace Cisney Brown

DRAKESBORO - Grace Cisney Brown, 88, of Drakesboro died Thursday morning, Sept. 9, 2004, at 7 a.m. at her home following a short illness. She was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Rosewood, the daughter of Evander Taylor Cisney and Orah Dee Rust Cisney. She was a member of Drakesboro Methodist Church, where she was a pianist and assistant organist. She taught junior and senior high students in Sunday school for many years. Mrs. Gracie Brown retired from Muhlenberg County school system with 34 years in the teaching profession. She earned a bachelor of science degree at Western Kentucky University and began her career with a salary of $62 a month. She taught grades one through eight at Tooley School, grades one through eight at Greenbriar School, fourth and junior high at Dunmor, and third, fourth and junior high at Drakesboro. Following her retirement she served on the Muhlenberg County Library Board. She loved card playing and frequently played twice a week. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Edward Moss Brown Sr., on June 16, 1994; as well as by her parents; brothers, Leo (Audrey) Cisney, Hubert (Lois) Cisney and Wayne Cisney; and sisters, Verna (O.R.) Shutt and Verda (Jack) Corley.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 11, her birthday, at 2 p.m. from Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville, by the Rev. Martin Robertson. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter, Judith LaFlare of Drakesboro; two sons, Edward M. (Fredia) Brown Jr. of Bardstown and John Gregson (Jackie) Brown of Mount Vernon, Ill.; four grandchildren, Robyn (James) Roark of Goshen, Christopher (Jamie) Brown of Bardstown, Jennifer (Brian) Murphy of Lawrenceburg and Scarlet Brown of Pawnee, Ill.; four great-grandsons, Christian, Nathaniel and Colin Roark of Goshen and Grant Owen Brown of Bardstown; and a sister-in-law, Francis Cisney of Greenville.

Friends may call this afternoon, Sept. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity of Muhlenberg County or Drakesboro United Methodist Church.

Bertha Heltsley

CALHOUN - Bertha Heltsley, 73, of Calhoun died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a retired certified nurse's aid from McLean County General Hospital in Calhoun and was a member of Livermore Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Michael Heltsley; a daughter, Alice Baker; and two brothers, Willie Cardwell and Welton Cardwell.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial: Calhoun cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Bertha Heltsley Memorial Fund, c/o Independence Bank, P.O. Box 39, Livermore, KY 42352.
