Darwin L. Schultz, craftsman, loving dad

Everything Darwin Lindsey Schultz did had a good reason behind it.

He made furniture, clocks and model airplanes that his children could use.

He grew roses, strawberries and pumpkins because he liked plants that could be used for a variety of purposes.

And he played Santa Claus every year for his grandchildren because no other St. Nick could love them like he could.

"He had a good sense of humor and he loved to have fun with his friends," said a son, Darwin Lynn Schultz of Taylor Mill.

"But I think his greatest joy was entertaining his grandchildren; holidays were always a favorite time of the year. He loved to cook and make Italian dishes."

Mr. Schultz was a Northern Kentucky native whose father, Harry Schultz, once served as assistant fire chief in Newport.

Thomas, Kathleen Ann Johns of Edgewood, Darleen Marie Schultz of Crestview Hills, and Pamela Jean Bedinghaus of Edgewood; a brother, Marshall Frank Schultz of Bellevue; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
