Rosella French Porterfield

WALTON - Rosella French Porterfield, 85, of Walton died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at 3:08 a.m. She was a retired librarian for Erlanger-Elsmere School System. She was a member of Zion Baptist Missionary Church in Walton, formerly served as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, choir director, pianist and organist. She was a member of Homemakers Association, Retired Teachers Association and Walton Senior Citizens. Rosella Porterfield Park in Elsmere is named after her as well as Rosella Porterfield Library at Dorothy Howell Middle School. She was involved with Boone County Extension Services, was a former Presidents Award winner from NAACP, received proclamations from the City of Elsmere and was a Kentucky Colonel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Porterfield in 2001.

Survivors include a son, David French of Walton; two brothers, John Maurice French of Maysville and Roscoe Moorman French of Owensboro; and a sister, Mary Jo Whitfield of Homewood, Ill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Elsmere. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Elsmere at 1007 Garvey Ave. in Elsmere. Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent to Rosella Porterfield Park, c/o City of Elsmere, 318 Garvey Ave., Elsmere, KY 41018.

Geraldine Ann Mullen

HARTFORD - Geraldine Ann Mullen, 73, of 839 Clay St., Hartford, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, at home. She was born July 13, 1931, in St. Louis to the late William J. Jackson and Ursula McGrath Jackson. She worked for Hines, Inc. and was a cook on a river boat and a Catholic. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Stone, who died in 1979; and a daughter, Linda Frances Stone, in February 1972.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas Henry Stone of Kirkwood, Mo., and Richard Anthony Stone of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Donna M. Oliver and Sandie Crump, both of Hartford, and Pat Mullen of Rockport, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Jackson of St. Louis and Donald Jackson of Las Vegas; and three sisters, Doris Jackson and Rose Caraker, both of O'Fallon, Mo., and Kathleen Jackson of St. Louis.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford, with the Rev. Rodney Albin officiating. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam.

Lillie Mae Skimehorn

BREMEN - Lillie Mae Skimehorn, 98, of Bremen died at 8:35 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville. She was born Nov. 30, 1905, in Muhlenberg County and was a housewife. She was a member of Neals Chapel General Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Rondle Skimehorn of Central City and William Skimehorn of Bremen; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Joey Todd officiating. Burial will be in Gish cemetery in Bremen. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home.

Wilson Coleman Brown

SOUTH CARROLLTON - Wilson Coleman Brown, 85, of South Carrollton died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. He was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Ohio County and retired from Island Creek Coal Mines. He was a member of South Carrollton United Methodist Church and was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Lorine Bullock Brown; a son, Coleman and Lucy Brown of Versailles; a stepdaughter, Deloris and Leon Slinker of South Carrollton; two sisters, Jean Stevens of South Carrollton and Kay Roark of Central City; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Steve Latham officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home.

Harlan Pate

Harlan Pate, 95, of Owensboro died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at the Carmel Home. Born July 13, 1909, Mr. Pate was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and was retired from Beloit College in Wisconsin where he worked in the maintenance department for many years. Mr. Pate was an avid University of Kentucky and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louella Hopper Pate; a brother, J.W. Pate; and a sister, Eliza Lee Smith.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and John Fossum of Annapolis, Md.; two grandchildren, Randall and Carmelnita Fossum of Woodbine, Md., and Joni and Michael Remar of Hollis, N.H.; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Fossum, Jordan Remar and Alex Remar; two sisters, Rose Nation and Ruth Stephens, both of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Episcopal Church with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Trinity Episcopal Church or the Carmel Home.

Franklin T. Phelps

BEAVER DAM - Franklin T. Phelps, 71, of Cromwell died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at his home. He was retired from the Navy.

Survivors include a son, Danny Phelps; two daughters, Patricia Logsdon and Janice Haugen; three half brothers, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Phelps and J.W. Phelps; and four half sisters, Becky Morris, Lida Murphy, Leora Belle Bates and Audry Wilson.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial: Rosine cemetery. Visitation: From 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert Thomas Knight

HENDERSON - Robert Thomas Knight, 63, of Henderson died at 11:13 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Frazier Rehabilitation Institute in Louisville following complications from a stroke.

Mr. Knight was a Baptist. He had formerly been self-employed for 25 years in the manufactured housing industry and most recently worked for Department of Homeland Security as part of the National Screening Force.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Betty; a daughter, Angelia Knight of Henderson; a son, Michael Knight of Henderson; his father, George E. Knight Sr. of Pensacola, Fla.; three brothers, George E. Knight Jr. of Paducah, Dave Knight of Pensacola and Jim Knight of Henderson; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Robert Thomas Knight will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Gary Chapman will officiate. Burial will follow. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Anthony's Hospice.

Edna Cox Page

DRAKESBORO - Edna Cox Page, 65, of 1526 U.S. 431 North, Drakesboro, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was born July 18, 1939, in Muhlenberg County and was of the Pentecostal faith. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Page Dennis.

Survivors include a son, John Christopher Page of Drakesboro; a daughter, Barbara Page (Gil) Dennis of Drakesboro; two grandchildren, Rebecca Page of Drakesboro and Jacob Dennis of Drakesboro; a stepgrandchild, Casey O'Brien of Drakesboro; a brother, Hayward Cox of Louisville; and a niece, Martha Page.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. B.J. Embry. Burial will be in Ebenezer cemetery in Drakesboro. Online condolences can be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home.

Ruth Combs Eskridge

HARTFORD - Mattie Ruth Combs Eskridge, 94, of 114 McMurtry Ave., Hartford, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at Professional Care Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hartford. She was born May 30, 1910, in Ohio County to the late Burt Combs and Verta Mitchell Combs. She was a homemaker and mother and a member of Concord Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ermine Coakley Eskridge, on Dec. 26, 1989.

Survivors include a son, J.B. Eskridge and his wife, Doloris, both of Hartford; a granddaughter, Soretta Eskridge Ralph, and her husband, James Earl, of Hartford; two great-granddaughters, Mallory and Chelsey Ralph, both of Hartford; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Melanie Ralph Rice and her husband, Scott, of Owensboro and Brandon Ralph of Bowling Green; and a sister, Genrose Curtis of Griffith, Ind.

Services are at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford with Brother Eddie Duke and Brother Glenn Armstrong officiating. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until time of services Friday. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford.

Celia Geraldine Walden

BELTON - Celia Geraldine Walden, 56, of Belton died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Randall Ray Sweeney; a daughter, Cindy Grace Walden; and a brother, J.R. Way.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial: Sand Springs cemetery in Lewisburg. Visitation: After 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carl Ray Arnold

PADUCAH - Carl Ray Arnold, 67, of Paducah, formerly of Calhoun, has died. Carl Ray was born June 19, 1937, in McLean County to the late Sonny and Muriel Arnold and was later married to the former Barbara Stephens. He was a captain and retired as a port captain from the Crounse Corp. after 30 years of service. He was a member of Calhoun Baptist Church, was a Mason and a member of Rizpah Shrine Temple. Carl Ray was preceded in death by a daughter, Kandice Lee Arnold, who died May 8, 1983.

A celebration of Carl Ray Arnold's life and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Calhoun Baptist Church, with Dr. Richard Sams officiating. Carl Ray's family would appreciate friends sharing a short remembrance, story or anecdote about Carl Ray at his special service.

The Carl Ray Arnold family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Calhoun Baptist Church, Christian Life Center, P.O. Box 283, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Calhoun Baptist Church.
