BEECH CREEK - Ruby Piper Shepherd, 65, of Beech Creek died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Jetter Jessup; her mother, Jenettie Piper; four brothers, Ray Piper, Penueal Jr. Piper, Donnie Piper and Monnie Piper; and two sisters, Patsy Jarvis and Betty Bishop.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Grove cemetery. Visitation: After 5:30 p.m. today at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home.

Joseph Herman Wathen

Joseph Herman Wathen, 95, of 1023 E. 20th St., Owensboro, left to be with Jesus on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. He was born in Curdsville to the late James E. and Stella Mattingly Wathen. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. He was a very loving father, grandfather and friend. He had farmed in Daviess County until he went to work at Glenmore Distillery, where he retired after 39 years. He enjoyed Atlanta Braves baseball, playing cards, shooting pool and looked forward to visits and long talks with his family and friends. He especially loved it when the babies would crawl up on his bed and love on their Poppa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ethel Payne Wathen, on June 22, 1961; a son-in-law, Gerald McCarty, on April 3, 2003; a granddaughter, Theresa Marie McCarty; a grandson, Thomas Gerald McCarty; three sisters, Martina Merimee, Helen Wright and Rose Weikel; and three brothers, Otis, Bernard and Marvin Wathen.

Surviving is his daughter, Helen McCarty of Owensboro; seven grandchildren and spouses, Joann Bradley of Stanley, Lisa and Jim Schwartz of Pleasant Ridge, Angela McCarty and Susan and Mick McRoy, all of Owensboro, Helen McCarty of Nashville, Jim and Em McCarty of Louisville and Tom McCarty of Pleasant Ridge; great-grandchildren and spouses, Summer and Tony Schneider, Darren and Amanda Mattingly Jr., Garry and Charity Mattingly, Paul Mattingly, Sarah and Andrew Rudkosky, Joni Mattingly, Markie Mattingly, Jessica McCarty, Anna Miller, Shannon McCarty, Theresa Schwartz and Elizabeth Schwartz; and great-great-grandchildren, Kyle, Brooke and Jack Schneider, Preston Mattingly, Jodi Rudkosky, Angel McCarty and Allyssa and Aleigha Miller.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church, with burial following in Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home, with prayers at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blessed Mother Catholic Church Building Fund, 601 E. 23rd St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Kellen Terrell Powell

Kellen Terrell Powell, 3 months, of Owensboro died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004. He was born Aug. 6, 2004, in Owensboro to his father, Mason Leon Powell, and his mother, Bethany Lee Brasel. He smiled a lot and had already shown an interest in watching sports on TV.

Survivors include his grandparents, Belinda Gabbert (maternal), Bruce Brasel (maternal) and Roland and Mary Powell (paternal) of Owensboro; six uncles, Blake Brasel, Oscar Smith, Bruce Brasel Jr., Derek Brasel and Jason Powell, all of Owensboro, and Mark Rowan of Lexington; two aunts, Carmen Howard of Owensboro and Deanna Darns of Hopkinsville; a great-grandfather, Oscar Smith; a great-grandmother, Agnes Griffith; a sister, Kaila Oriana Powell; and several cousins.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Sweeney Street Baptist Church. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. McFarland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be given to the Kellen Powell Memorial Fund, c/o Set Free Church, 1330 W. Third St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Michael Owens Coomes

Michael Owens Coomes, 51, of 2708 Chatham Lane, Owensboro, passed away Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Daviess County and was a member of Owensboro Christian Church. He was the owner-operator of ProGem, Inc. He received his bachelor's degree in mathematics and computer science from Kentucky Wesleyan College and his master's degree from Murray State University. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. Coomes, on May 28, 2004; and his brother, Scott Anthony Coomes, on Dec. 24, 1979.

Surviving is his wife of 27 years, Patricia Hay Coomes; a daughter and her husband, Amy and Shane Pate of Owensboro; a son, Adam Anthony Coomes of Owensboro; a grandson, Bryce Cameron Pate; his mother, Mary Lou Coomes of Owensboro; three brothers, Patrick Coomes of California, Russell Coomes of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Richard Coomes II of Owensboro; and two sisters, Melody Alford and Joy Coomes, both of Nashville; 14 nieces and nephews; and seven great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Glenn Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Owensboro Christian Church, 2818 New Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.

Helen Marie Edge

CENTRAL CITY - Helen Marie Edge, 65, of Central City died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include three brothers, William E. Edge, L.D. Edge and Roger Landrum.

Services: 1 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Jagoe cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Sue Jett Bailey

PORTLAND, Tenn. - Sue Jett Bailey, 88, of 125 Hughes Lane, Portland, formerly of Owensboro, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at home. She was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Pellville to the late Bryce and Mary Basham Jett. Sue was a member of First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tenn., but she was a longtime member of Third Baptist Church, where she was a charter member of Vota Vita Sunday school class. Sue retired from South Central Bell as an assignment clerk and she was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Hawes Bailey.

She is survived by a brother, Raphael C. "Ray" Jett of Lewisport. Sue had 14 nieces and nephews; 31 great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Services are at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro, with burial in Rosehill cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 20, and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Third Baptist Church Ministries, 527 Allen St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Noah Jude Blair

Noah Jude Blair, infant son of Jude and Renee Roberts Blair of 9373 Kentucky 54, Whitesville, was born and died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System.

Also surviving are his brothers, Nate and Nick Blair, both at home; his grandparents, Mark and Cathy Roberts of Masonville and Daniel and Lucy Blair of Owensboro; his great-grandmother, Mary Emma Blair of Owensboro; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Resurrection cemetery.

Robert Anthony 'Tony' Brooks

Robert Anthony "Tony" Brooks, 44, of 333 Industrial Drive, Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at his home. He was born in Nelson County and had worked at Modern Welding Co. for a number of years. He was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church, was an Oakland Raider football fan and enjoyed collecting football cards, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving is his wife of nine years, Penney Christian Brooks; three daughters, Hannah Brooks and Heidi Brooks, both of Hartford, and Cassidy Brooks of Owensboro; two sons, Hugh Brooks of Owensboro and Phillip Brooks of Nashville; a stepson, Blake Lambert of Owensboro; his parents, Robert and Doris Brooks of Hartford; his grandparents, Edith Brooks and Margie B. Johnson, both of Bardstown; a granddaughter, Cameron Lanham of Owensboro; a sister, Pat Bobinchort of Pennsylvania; and two brothers, Kevin Brooks of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Chris Brooks of Louisville.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home chapel. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday and after 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Tony Brooks Memorial Fund, c/o Penney Brooks, 2225 Berkshire Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Sara Katherine Chambers

HAWESVILLE - Sara Katherine Chambers, 93, formerly of Hawesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Hanover Nursing Home in Hanover, Ind. She was born in Hancock County and was a member of Hawesville Baptist Church. She was a retired nurse and worked with Dr. B.P. Smith in Hawesville for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Douglas Chambers, in 1955.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally Stockslager of Fayetteville, Pa., and Jamie Morris of Louisville; and three grandchildren, Michael David Aselin, Lauren Ann Morris and Julie Nicole Morris.

Services are at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 27, at Gibson & Son Funeral Home in Hawesville, with the Rev. Roger Jarboe officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens in Hawesville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time today at the funeral home.

Iona F. 'Oney' Connor

Iona F. "Oney" Connor, 79, of 1708 Shawnee Drive, Owensboro, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro. She was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Illinois to the late John A. and Leona (Nissen) Lange. She was the owner of Oney's Shoes. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Connor, on Nov. 9, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Bass King and husband, Robert, of Springfield, Mo., and Hazel Juanita Davis and husband, Norman, of Honokaa, Hawaii; two sons, Daniel E. Connor of Branson, Mo., and Rodger Connor and wife, Ruth, of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Clinton A. Connor, Robin Woodard, Dana Murphy, Tina Connor, Shaheen Plunier and Hamid Davis; eight great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Herbert Lange of Princeton, Ill., Donald Lange of Walnut, Ill., and Harold Lange of Malden, Ill.

Memorial services are at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sorgho. Visitation is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. James H. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Peggy Jean Burdette Dowell

HARDINSBURG - Peggy Jean Burdette Dowell, 75, of Hardinsburg died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2004, at Medco Center. She was a member of Faith Community Church and retired as a supervisor from Galante Studio in Hardinsburg.

Survivors include her husband, Bernard Dowell; her mother, Allene Wheatley; two sons, James B. Dowell and Brian Dowell; two daughters, Cheryl Sipes and Mabel Allen; and two brothers, Maurice Burdette and James Burdette.

Services: 1 p.m. Sunday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home. Burial: Ivy Hill cemetery in Hardinsburg. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Alzheimer's Association.
