HARTFORD - William H. Ashford, 83, of Hartford died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Professional Care Home in Hartford. He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Ohio County to the late Melvin Ashford and Provie Nelson Ashford. He was a farmer and member of East Hartford Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Ashford, on Oct. 5, 1982; and a son, Larry Clifton Ashford, in August 2000.

Survivors include a cousin, Katherine Jackson of Hartford.

Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Brother Rodney Albin will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford.

Walter Henry Newton

Walter Henry Newton, 94, of Owensboro died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Hermitage Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Owensboro. He was born on Nov. 18, 1910, in Sutherland to the late Henry and Eliza Stringer Newton. He retired in 1973 as a supervisor for General Electric Co. He was a member of Third Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and J.A. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Anna B. Newton, on Aug. 5, 1998; and was preceded in death by three sisters, Opal Newbolt, Vera Mae Schmidt and Ona Best.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Ann Newton of Owensboro; a granddaughter, Traci Woolery and her husband, Chris, of Greenwood, Ind.; and great-granddaughters, Kara and Amanda Woolery.

Services are at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Rosehill cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Third Baptist Church, P.O. Box 808, Owensboro, KY 42302-0808.

Timothy Mandle Edwards

GREENVILLE - Timothy Mandle Edwards, 44, of 983 Friendship Road, Greenville, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, at 4:45 a.m. at his home in a house fire with his wife and stepson. He was born Dec. 29, 1959, in Muhlenberg County, the son of Hobert Mandle Edwards and Jolene Edwards Pendley. He was a truck driver for Ray Jones Trucking in Greenville and a member of Richardson's Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of six years, Mary Elizabeth Edwards; a stepson, Joseph Michael Zackery; his father, Hobert Mandle Edwards, in 1978; a brother, David Joe Edwards, in 1980; and his grandparents, Elvis and Eathel Griffin and Claude and Roxie Edwards.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6, at Gary's Funeral Home, by the Rev. T.H. Davis and the Rev. Phillip Bennett. Burial will be in New Harmony cemetery in Bremen.

He is survived by his mother, Jolene Edwards Pendley of Central City; two daughters, Kimberly Dillon of Drakesboro and Kelli Smith of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Marie Zackery of Greenville; three grandchildren; a brother, Elvis (Priscilla) Edwards of Madisonville; two sisters, Joann Deason of Central City and Becky Carver of Evansville; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today, Dec. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund, c/o First Kentucky Bank.

Marshell Yost Newman

BEECH CREEK - Marshell Yost Newman, 86, of 185 Beech Creek Road, Beech Creek, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at 4 p.m. at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was born May 29, 1918, in Muhlenberg County and was a retired coal miner and electrician. He was a member of Beech Creek Methodist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Jimmie and Harold Bowers of Haubstadt, Ind., and Patricia and Jimmy Rager of Beechmont; grandsons, Joseph P. Bowers, Mickey R. Bowers, Benjamin Drew (Robin) Bowers, Chad Rager and Chris Rager; great-grandchildren, Chase Bowers, Justin Bowers, Faith Bowers and Leighia Bowers; brothers, E.L. Newman of St. Louis and Bobby Newman of Hammond, Ind.; and a sister, Thelma Hendricks of Hammond.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. George Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home.

Wavie Clovis Basham
11/30/2004

Wavie Clovis Basham, 94, of 9423 Highway 662, Maceo, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. He was born Aug. 24, 1910, to the late W.D. and Victoria Lane Basham in Hancock County. Clovis was a member of Yelvington Baptist Church, a Navy veteran of World War II and worked in the oil business. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and he liked being around and talking to people. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mae Basham, who died Feb. 14, 2002.

Survivors include one son, Yewell Basham of Maceo; one daughter, Bonnie Hite and her husband William of Owensboro; five grandchildren, Sheila Houchins and her husband Jeff, Donna Westerfield and her husband Keith, Terri Bailey and her husband Kevin, Barry Basham and his wife Denise, Scott Hite and his wife Patty; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Yelvington Baptist Church, 9424 Highway 662, Maceo, KY 42355.

Robert F. 'Bob' Bryant

SEBREE - Robert R. "Bob" Bryant, 64, of Sebree passed away at 3:53 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Sebree on Feb. 20, 1940, to the late Dorsey and Wilma (King) Bryant. He owned and operated Fast Foto in Henderson and Owensboro. He was a 1958 graduate of Sebree High School and a 1961 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville and had attended the University of Kentucky.

He was a member of the Sebree Christian Church where he was an elder. He had also served as Board Chairman and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Bailey-Onton Masonic Lodge 538 in Sebree, Order of Eastern Star 240, Sebree, and Rizpah Temple in Madisonville. He was a member of Independent Photo Imagers and Photo Marketing Association as well as a Kentucky Colonel and Honorary Commissioner of Agriculture.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Dortch) Bryant; a son, Steven Bryant of Newburgh, Ind.; a brother, Terry Bryant of Lebanon, Tenn.; a sister, Joanna Beach of Clay; and grandchildren, Austin Bryant and Alexandria Bryant. He was preceded in death by a brother, Rod Bryant.

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Sebree Christian Church. Dr. Tom Steiner and Dr. Bob Hardison will officiate. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Tompkins Funeral Home Sebree Chapel. Visitation will be at the church from 1 until service time Sunday. Burial will be at a later date.

Charles E. Swift

NASHVILLE - Charles E. Swift, 77, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2004. Mr. Swift was retired from the John Bouchard Co. He was a past governor of the Tennessee Civitans and was a former president of the Donelson Civitan Club. He is preceded in death by his wife, Louise Swift.

Survived by children, Sheila Swift, Greg Swift and Melanie Swift; grandson, Noah Stafford; and brothers, Walter, Frank and Larry Swift.

Funeral services were Tuesday at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home in Nashville with the Rev. Marlan Seward and Mrs. Lou Heath officiating. Interment was in Heritage Memorial Gardens. Family and friends served as pallbearers.

Rhonda Priest Adkins

DUNDEE - Rhonda Priest Adkins, 46, of Dundee died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her mother's home in Leitchfield. She was born in Owensboro and was a homemaker and member of Dundee Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, D.P. Adkins; and her father, James Priest.

Survivors include two sons, David Adkins and wife, Diana, and Darrell Adkins, all of Dundee; her mother and stepfather, Hazel Priest Dodson and William Dodson of Leitchfield; a grandson, Ethan Adkins of Dundee; a stepgrandson, J.D. Miranda of Dundee; a brother, Eddie Priest and wife, GayAnn, of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville, with burial in Fordsville cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Iona F. 'Oney' Connor

Iona F. "Oney" Connor, 79, of 1708 Shawnee Drive, Owensboro, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2004, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro. She was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Illinois to the late John A. and Leona (Nissen) Lange. She was the owner of Oney's Shoes. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Connor, on Nov. 9, 2004.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Bass King and husband, Robert, of Springfield, Mo., and Hazel Juanita Davis and husband, Norman, of Honokaa, Hawaii; two sons, Daniel E. Connor of Branson, Mo., and Rodger Connor and wife, Ruth, of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Clinton A. Connor, Robin Woodard, Dana Murphy, Tina Connor, Shaheen Plunier and Hamid Davis; eight great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Herbert Lange of Princeton, Ill., Donald Lange of Walnut, Ill., and Harold Lange of Malden, Ill.

Memorial services are at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8., at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Sorgho. Visitation is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. James H. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Christopher C. Brown

Christopher C. Brown, 31, of 3032 Redford Drive, Owensboro, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Owensboro and was preceded in death by his father, Carl D. Brown, in 1995; and a brother and sister, Donnie and Kimberly McCann, in 1974. He was employed at Omico Plastics and for more than 10 years previously, restored and delivered antique furniture for Peachtree Gallery.

Survivors include his son, Christopher Gage Brown, and his daughter, Kimberly Drake Brown, both of Owensboro; his mother, Georgia Brown of Owensboro; a sister, Melissa Brown Glenn of Owensboro; a half sister, Misty Brown of Owensboro; and three nephews and nieces.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Christopher Brown Family, c/o Davis Funeral Home, 3009 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY.
