DRAKESBORO - Lillian Beatrice Mullen, 92, of 310 Mose Rager Blvd., Drakesboro, died at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2005, at her home. She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Muhlenberg County and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Mullen Sr.; a son, Clarence Edward Mullen; two brothers, James Walton Staples and Wallace Staples; and her mother, Lillian Birdie Staples.

Survivors include a son, Clyde Mullen Jr. of Drakesboro; two stepgrandchildren, Audra Jenkins of Drakesboro and Michelle Lynn of Greenville; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Erin Phelps, Ellee Phelps and Erika Phelps, all of Greenville, and Jessy Jenkins of Drakesboro; and a special friend, Donna Lindsay of Drakesboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Kerry Vincent officiating and assisted by the Rev. Robert Lindsay and the Rev. Bobby Allen Jr. Burial will be in Highway cemetery in Drakesboro. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home.

Betty L. Baker

Betty L. Baker, 63, of Philpot died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Feb. 19, 1942, in Hancock County, the daughter of the late Orville Sr. and Hazel Early Campbell. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Philpot.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, David H. Baker of Philpot; two sons, David Samuel Baker of Maceo and Robert Gerald and his wife, Lidia Baker, of Dixon, Mo.; her mother, Hazel Campbell of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Dr. W.C. Campbell of Ocala and Russell Campbell of Kite, Ga.; a sister, Carol Hendricks of Owensboro; and grandchildren, Andrew Penn Baker, Austin Bradley Baker, Briana Baker, Marquis Baker and Anthony Baker.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Philpot with the Rev. Phil Bradley and Dr. W.C. Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Lewisport cemetery. Visitation is Sunday after 2 p.m. and on Monday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home in Lewisport and from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Rachel Hancock Bollinger

Rachel Hancock Bollinger, 94, of 2920 Yale Place, Owensboro, died Friday, March 18, 2005, at Bon Harbor Nursing Home in Owensboro. She was born Jan. 30, 1911, in Daviess County to the late James and Nannie (Arnold) Self. She was a longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and the Sally Gregory Sunday school class, O.E.S. Acacia of Calhoun #66. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Aurelia Hancock in 1937 and Nannette Hancock in 1954; as well as her first husband, Floyd Hancock, in 1957; and her second husband, Norman K. Bollinger, in 1993.

She is survived by three sons, Morris (Shirley) Hancock, Darrell (Libby) Hancock and Randall (Judy) Hancock, all of Daviess County; two daughters, Patricia Schroader of Daviess County and Linda Sue (Jim) Hawkins of Lewisport; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marian Carden of Detroit.

Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Visitation is from noon until 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 5664 Kentucky 56, Owensboro, KY 42301 or Lewisport Baptist Church Building Fund, 1115 Pell St., Lewisport, KY 42351.

Shirley Dennis Bone

CUNNINGHAM - Shirley Dennis Bone, 73, of Cunningham, died at 6 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church of Cunningham, a former telephone operator and a graduate of Wickliffe High School where she was salutatorian of her class. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 49 years, Billie Joe Bone; her parents, Zack and Fairy (Crews) Dennis; and three brothers.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis and her husband, James Hendrix of Owensboro; a son, Michael and his wife Laurie Lee Bone of Cunningham; a sister, Gloria and her husband Larry Morgan of Dallas; two brothers, Nat Dennis of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Dean and wife Jeannie Dennis of Wickliffe; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Kara Hendrix of Owensboro and Dylan and Austin Bone of Cunningham.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home in Bardwell with the Rev. Ray Provow officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Milner & Orr.

Catherine M. Chandler

Catherine M. Chandler, 70, of Owensboro died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Byron Scott Chandler, in 1993.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Arthur S. Chandler; a son, Jeff (Lisa) Chandler of Falls of Rough; two daughters, Stacey (Jimmy) Kimmel of Whitesville, Lisa (Steve) Ash of Owensboro; five brothers, Marvin Morris, Joseph L. Morris and Patrick Morris, all of Owensboro, Joseph A. (Tom) Morris of Whitesville and J.W. Morris of Philpot; two sisters, Emma Whistle of Philpot and Barbara Shively of Owensboro; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. and from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home. Prayers will be said today at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to The Foundation for Health, Head and Neck Cancer Survivors and Education Fund, P.O. Box 22505, Owensboro, KY 42304-2505.

Gail Cummings Chandler

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Mrs. Gail Cummings Chandler, 54, went to her Lord on Friday, March 18, 2005. Mrs. Chandler of Franklin is survived by her husband of 34 years, Terry; a son and daughter-in-law, Ian and Tonya Chandler of Paducah; two grandsons, Gage Wesley Chandler and Miles Barkley Chandler; her parents, Katherine and Robert Cummings of Owensboro; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Martha Cummings of Valdosta, Ga.; and two nephews and a niece, Robert, Daniel and Rachel Cummings.

Mrs. Chandler earned a magna cum laude bachelor of arts degree from Belmont University and a master of arts in education degree from Murray State University. She taught kindergarten and fourth grade at St. Mary Elementary School in Paducah for 19 years. Mrs. Chandler most recently served as director of education and academic advisor to the Diamond Council of America in Nashville.

Pallbearers are Ed Fulcher, Steve Roussel, Steve Heaston, George Schuman, Hollis Clark and Ian Chandler. Visitation and memorial services will be held at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin on the following schedule: Visitation is Monday, March 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. and 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday. The memorial service will be Tuesday, March 22 at 1 p.m. with Pastor David Cummings officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery in Nashville.

Margaret Elizabeth 'Maggie' Craig Villaflor

LOUISVILLE - Margaret Elizabeth "Maggie" Craig Villaflor, 29, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at her home in Louisville. She was born April 4, 1975, graduated from Owensboro High School in 1993 and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1998.

Survivors include her husband, Joel A. Villaflor; her daughter, Katherine Grace Villaflor of Louisville; her stepdaughter, Christina Villaflor of Lexington; her mother, Vivian Gayle Craig; her father and stepmother, Bill Craig Jr. and Monique, all of Owensboro; her sister, Susannah Katherine Craig, and her brother, William Marshall Craig, both of Lexington; and her grandmothers, Margaret Craig of Owensboro and Cora Royalty of Danville.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 4, at Glenn Funeral Home. A private service will be held Saturday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of donations to Boulware Mission, Inc., Substance Abuse Treatment Services, 731 Hall St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Oscar L. Wilson

CENTRAL CITY - Oscar L. Wilson, 77, of Central City died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. He was a retired truck driver and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Cusic Wilson; four sons, Mike Wilson, Daniel Wilson, Derwin Wilson and Manuel Wilson; and four daughters, Vivian Williamson, Rhonda Chesnel, Belinda O'Clair and Sheila Adcock.

Services: 3 p.m. Tuesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Nelson Creek cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David Shawn Smith

David Shawn Smith, 25, of Farmview Drive, Owensboro, died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at his home.

Survivors include his father, Maurice Smith Jr.; his mother and stepfather, Anita L. and Art Comstock; his paternal grandparents, Maurice and Martha E. Smith Sr.; and his maternal grandmother, Esther Thurman.

Services: 11 a.m. today at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel. Visitation: From 9 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Humane Society, 3101 W. 2nd St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Charlie Ray Lovell

POWDERLY - Charlie Ray Lovell, 78, of Powderly died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at VA Medical Center in Columbia, Mo. He retired from TVA and was a member of Mercer Baptist Church in Powderly and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Freda Lovell; a son, Billy Lovell; two daughters, Brenda Buchanan and Wanda Luckett; three brothers, Harold Lovell, Wendell Lovell and Kenneth Lovell; and a sister, Helen Martin.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Mercer Baptist Church in Powderly. Burial: Memorial Gardens cemetery in Powderly. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Lie in state: From noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the church.

James W. Ross

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Master Sgt. James W. Ross, USAF (Ret.), died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at his home in Albuquerque. He worked for KTech Corp. for 19 years. Mr. Ross served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years until his retirement in 1974. James was a member of Church of the Risen Savior for many years. He loved spending time with his family, square dancing, traveling and playing games.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Ross of Albuquerque; children, Mary Zalmanek and husband, Jim, of Monument, Colo., a son, James W. Ross Jr. and wife, Vickie, of Southampton, England, and a daughter, Connie Barnhill and husband, Ross, of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Rhonda and Ryan Barnhill, Sam and Zack Ross and Shawn Zalmanek; five great-grandchildren, Sebastian Barnhill, Michael Elkins and Marin, Brynn and Josh Zalmanek; two brothers, Harold Ross and wife, Barbara, of Virginia and Bill Ross Jr. and wife, Jane, of Kentucky; and a sister, Anne Dulaney and husband, Richard, of Tennessee.

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. MT Tuesday, March 29, at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd., NE, with Father Dino Candeleria officiating. Ennichement of cremated remains will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Santa Fe (N.M.) National cemetery. A prayer vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 28, with Deacon Mark Bussemeier officiating, at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Zia Hospice Memorial Foundation, 4141 Montgomery NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109.
