FORDSVILLE - Sherry Ann Crowe, 36, of Summersville, Ga., formerly of Fordsville, died Aug. 13, 2004, in Summersville. She was born in Owensboro and was a homemaker. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her father, Biff Crowe; and a sister, Becky Lynn Crowe.

Survivors include her mother, Catherine Seaton Crowe of Beaver Dam; and several aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Jane Stewart

Mary Jane Stewart, 82, of Owensboro died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Hillcrest Health Care Center. She had been a real estate property manager.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Donery, Douglas Donery, Edward Donery and David Donery.

Burial: Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park in Washington. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements.

Opal Mattingly

ISLAND - Opal Mattingly, 83, of Island died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at Auburn Health Care Center. She was a retired private health care sitter and a member of Island Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include three sons, Larry Mattingly, Dale Mattingly and Hugh Mattingly; and two daughters, Karen Turner and Joyce Walls.

Services: 3 p.m. Sunday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial: Island Community cemetery in McLean County. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Opal Mattingly Memorial Fund, c/o Muster Funeral Homes, P.O. Box 228, Livermore, KY 42352.

Mildred Louise Vincent

Mildred Louise Vincent, 75, of 2650 Virgil Brown Road, Pellville, a native of Maceo, passed away Monday, March 28, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Daviess County to the late Chester and Sara Lancaster Ray. She was retired after 27 years from General Electric Co. She was a member of Maceo Baptist Church and the Almost Family Adult Day Care Center. She loved square dancing, music, fishing and her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell Vincent, on Aug. 6, 1997.

Surviving is a son and his wife, Bill and Donna Vincent Jr. of Pellville; two daughters and their husbands, Teresa and Charles Craft of Owensboro and Jane and Terry Miller of Maceo; two sisters, Dorothy Finley of Hardinsburg and Lucy Early of Owensboro; seven grandchildren, Allison Driskell, Heather Vincent, Erin Vincent, Kyle, Kelly and Cody Miller and Tiffany Craft; two stepgrandchildren, Dustin Craft and Darlynn Meredith; and two great-grandchildren, Madison and Alexis Driskell.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at Maceo Baptist Church, with burial following in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Maceo Baptist Church, P.O. Box 57, Maceo, KY 42355.

Wade Hampton Sherman

LOUISVILLE - Wade Hampton Sherman, 84, of Louisville died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Baptist East Hospital. He was born on April 22, 1920, to Wade H. and Effie Pearl Sherman in Montrose, W.Va. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935, before joining the U.S. Army where he served at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked in 1941. At the time of his discharge he had achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant. He married Edythe Gordon Arnold in 1943, worked a year for Jeff Boat in Jeffersonville, then joined IBM where he worked for 34 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church where he served as chairman of the building and grounds committee for 34 years. He was active in the Old Kentucky Home Council of Boy Scouts of America, founding Pack 314 and serving as Cub Master. He completed Wood Badge training and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was a member of Masonic Plumb Lodge 862. He was a Kentucky Colonel. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, loved to garden, was a big University of Louisville fan and was devoted to his little dog, Brandy.

Mr. Sherman was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harley Reed Sherman, Zealon "Zeke" Sherman and Hayes Sherman; his sisters, Sylvia Dudley, Ogda Ruth Haer, Mary Alice Gum and Addalea Ours.

Mr. Sherman is survived by his wife of 62 years; his sons, D. Terrell Sherman (Millie) of San Ramon, Calif., Thomas D. Sherman and his fiancée, Gloria Tanon of Apopka, Fla., Richard A. Sherman (Marilyn) of Sikeston, Mo., and William W. Sherman (Gayle) of Louisville; his daughters, Kathryn H. Sherman of Owensboro and Barbara A. Broadway (Lou) of Sanford, Fla.; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence "Pete" Sherman and a sister, Marguerite Mullenex, both of Pasons, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at St. Matthews United Methodist Church, 319 Browns Lane on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. EST. Visitation will be at Highlands Funeral Home today from 2 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Sherman Endowment Youth Fund at St. Matthews United Methodist Church or to the local Humane Society.

Ila Odell Coy

BEAVER DAM - Ila Odell Coy, 89, of Beaver Dam died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at her residence. She was born Jan. 20, 1916, in Ohio County to the late William Henry French and Amanda Jane Gentry. She was a homemaker and a member of Slaty Creek Baptist Church at Prentiss. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Coy, on Feb. 18, 1987; two brothers, Liter French and Allen French; and three sisters, Lena French, Bessie Reed and Golda Rhoads.

Survivors include a son, Paul Frederick Coy and wife, Melissa, of Henderson; a daughter, Peggy Morgan and husband, Gerald, of Martin, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Greg Morgan and wife, Lisa, of Memphis, Tenn., Amanda Phillips and husband, Matt, of Fairhope, Ala., Celia Dowty and husband, Bob, of Flower Mound, Texas, C.J. Belt and husband, Barrett, of Marion and Wendy Coy of Henderson; and 10 great-grandchildren, Ross, Katie, Rebekah, Kelsey, Kaitlynn, Emma Caroline, Emily, Lincoln, Logan and Sarabeth.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Slaty Creek cemetery near Prentiss. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Dorothy Tinnell Harris Hopwood

Dorothy Tinnell Harris Hopwood, 78, of Owensboro died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at her home. A Utica native, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hallie Earl Tinnell. She was a former member of Temple/Crosspointe Baptist Church and was the owner of Dottie Lou's Beauty Salon. She was preceded in death by five brothers, J.W., Robert, Tommy, Paul and John Edward Tinnell; two sisters, Mary Jane Tinnell and Clementine Payne; her first husband, Charles Harris Sr., in 1979, and her second husband, Glenn E. Hopwood, in 1990; and her daughter, Brenda Colburn, in 2005.

Survivors include her son, Charles "Butch" Harris II and his wife, Dottie; a son-in-law, Courtland Joe Colburn of Owensboro; and "Nannie" to these grandchildren: Charles Bryant Harris III and his wife, Patricia, Thomas Colburn and his wife, Kristie, Jason Colburn and his wife, Meggan, Scott McManaway and his wife, Marissa, Cammie Johnson, Jane Donahue and her husband, David, Joy Kay Blanford and her husband, Scott, Stephanie Lynn Sutton and her husband, Steve, and Rebecca Langlitz and her husband, Nathan; 28 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to family of Dorothy Hopwood, c/o James H. Davis Funeral Home, 3009 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Irene Kuhn

DRAKESBORO - Irene Kuhn, 91, of Drakesboro died at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of Drakesboro Baptist Church for more than 50 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Harrison; and two sisters, AusaMae Eddings and LouVera Givens.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home. Burial: Forest Grove cemetery. Visitation: From 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Shelia Fay Piper

POWDERLY - Shelia Fay Piper, 52, of Powderly died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was a homemaker and member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Patrick Piper; two stepsons, Jeremy Piper and Derick Piper; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Garrett; her mother, Agnes Bryant; and a brother, Jeff Bryant.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Friendship cemetery in Greenville. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ruth Walker Pell
04/01/2005

LEWISPORT - Ruth Walker Pell of Lewisport passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born and raised in Yelvington on July 21, 1929, the daughter of R.L. and Gertrude Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam Pell; a sister, Sara Margaret Poole; a brother, Thaxton Walker, and a brother in infancy. Ruth loved to watch the Chicago Cubs and Louisville Cardinals.

Survivors include a son, Gary Pell of Lewisport; a daughter, Sherry and her husband, Dennis Snyder, of Hawesville; two grandsons, Jason Snyder and Daren Snyder of Owensboro; a sister, Mary and her husband, Jimmy Johnson, of Owensboro; a brother, R.L. and his wife, Lavena Walker, of Madisonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Taylor-Raymond-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Alton Lawhorn officiating. Burial will be in Lewisport cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Christopher Blake Jones
04/01/2005

Christopher Blake Jones, infant son of Kevin and Krystal Jones of Beaver Dam, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.

Other survivors include his grandparents, Dianna Alexander and Joyce and Steve Jones; a brother, Zachary Jones; and a sister, Kayla Jones.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Carmel Baptist Church cemetery in Ohio County. Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville is in charge of arrangements.
