CENTRAL CITY - Carolyn McDonald Todd, 50, of 135 Fairway Drive, Central City, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, in Perry, Ga. She was born March 19, 1955, in Muhlenberg County and was a member of Drakesboro First Baptist Church. She worked at Muhlenberg North Middle School as a sixth-grade math teacher. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Neagle; and her father, John William McDonald.

Survivors include her husband, David A. Todd of Central City; a daughter, Leanna M. Todd of Central City; her mother, Marjorie Ross McDonald of Browder; and two sisters, Mary Helen Wynn of Greenville and Betsy Wolf of Swanee, Ga.

Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Tom Stovall officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Muhlenberg County Children's Fund, P.O. Box 724, Greenville, KY 42345.

Lewis Gordon 'Gary' Miller III

BELL BUCKLE, Tenn. - Gary Miller III, 62, of Bell Buckle passed away Saturday April 16, 2005, at Bedford Medical Center. A native of Cincinnati, he grew up in Glen Ridge, N.J., had lived in Bedford County for the past 20 years and was employed as a cable splicer for BellSouth. He was preceded in death by a son, Lewis G. Miller IV; and brother, Ralph Richards Jr.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Judith (Judy) Wahl Miller of Bell Buckle; his father and stepmother, Lewis Gordon Miller, Jr. and Nancy Miller of Albemarle, N.C.; his mother and stepfather, Mary Smith and Ralph Richards of Vero Beach, Fla.; two sons Jason (Kim) Miller and Eric Miller, both of Murfreesboro; a stepdaughter, Stacy Lowe of LaFayette, La.; two stepsons , Steve and Gary Aud, both of Owensboro; two sisters, Ann Hartig of Fairhaven, N.J., and Rosemary Richards of St. Johns Island.

Funeral services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday at Jennings and Ayers Chapel in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with Pastor Manuel McGregor officiating and burial in Evergreen cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Percy Reynold Martin

CLOVERPORT - Percy Reynold Martin, 90, of Hardinsburg died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at North Hardin Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb. 13, 1915, to A.T. Martin and Alma Lee Coffman Martin. He was preceded in death by his father; his mother; his wife, Katherine Mae Hammon Martin; two sisters, Lera Martin Wilson and Lilia Martin Pearson; a brother, Finis Martin; and a daughter-in-law, Wanda S. Eskridge Martin. He retired from General Electric in Tell City, Ind. He was a Mason and a member of Lincoln Trail Engine Club.

He is survived by his children, Bruce (Rita) Martin of Radcliff, William L. (Shirley) Martin of Ocean Springs, Miss., Wayne Martin of Cloverport and Gail (Jim) Ferguson of Brandenburg; three sisters, Lucille Whitler of Elizabethtown, Louise Martin of Cloverport and Loretta Sawyer of Lancaster, Pa.; four grandchildren, Josh (Janelle) Martin of Monticello, Ark., Sarah Martin of Bentonville, Ark., Bruce (Brandi) Martin of Largo, Fla., and Jeffrey Ferguson of New York; and two great-great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Conner Martin, both of Largo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Wallace-Burns Funeral Home in Cloverport, with burial in Cloverport cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Carlon Hugh Gillim

It is with great sadness to the wife and children of Carlon Hugh Gillim, 67, of Hillcrest Healthcare Center that he passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2005. He was born on Dec. 27, 1937, to Erville and Edith Gillim. He was born in Narrows and grew up in Hartford. He retired after 28 years of employment as maintenance foreman from Peabody Coal Co. He also served as a volunteer fireman for many years. He was active in his church and served on several committees. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially water sports. He claimed to be a hunter, but his family noticed he never shot an animal. They realized he just loved to be with nature. He always had a garden and had a green thumb. He played golf, tennis and card games. He enjoyed traveling and visiting his daughters who moved all over the country, which gave him the opportunity to see much of the United States. He was always kind, considerate, generous and humorous and gained the affection of everyone he met. He was an inspiration to those who witnessed his positive, accepting spirit during his long, painful illnesses. He always had a smile, no matter how much pain he was suffering. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gary Gillim; a son, Jeffrey Gillim of Sacramento; two daughters and sons-in-law, Clark and Kay Phillip of Charleston, S.C., and John and Carla Pearce of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Beth Hughes of Fort Worth, Texas, John Pearce Jr. and Jeffrey Pearce of Austin; two great-grandchildren, Pearce and Charlotte Hughes; five brothers, Griffith and Glendon Gillim of Rosine, Ray and Russell Gillim of Hartford and Eddie Gillim of Owensboro; five sisters, his twin sister, Sue Underwood of Evansville, Ramona Grant of Hartford, Linda Ebdleman of Florida, Donita Miller of Nashville and Judy Carter of Hopkinsville.

Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy Sweeney of Immaculate Catholic Church officiating. Following Mass, graveside services will be at Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Visitation is from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Shirley Nash

Shirley Nash died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Rosine to Robert Kitchens and Vera Kitchens (Haven) and was a caterer for 15 years. She was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, James Richard "Ricky" O'Neil, in 1982; and her father, Robert Kitchens, in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Terri Lynn Murphy and her husband, Kevin, of Owensboro; her mother, Vera Kitchens of Owensboro; two grandchildren, Amanda Abel and Jessica Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Tryistan Abel, Justice Murphy, Colton Abel, Judge Murphy and Mashayla Murphy; a brother, Robert Thomas Kitchens of Utica; a sister, Diane Barnett of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery.

Fon Midkiff

Fon Midkiff, 103, formerly of 125 W. 18th St., Owensboro, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Leisure Years Nursing Home in Owensboro. He was born on July 28, 1901, in Ohio County to the late George and Effie (Henning) Midkiff. He was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church. As a young man, he owned and drove a truck for a living and helped with the construction of U.S. 231. He also worked as a foreman at Public Aviation during World War II and was a tool dresser in the oil fields. His hobbies included helping others. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Nina Igleheart Midkiff, on October 1995; a son, Robert Midkiff, in January 1999; and by two daughters, Katherine Sublett in 1976 and Linda Lee in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Raymond and wife, Maxine Midkiff of Owensboro; a daughter-in-law, Jean Midkiff of Owensboro; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial is in Elmwood cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, P.O. Box 36570, Louisville, KY 40233-9909.

Carroll Sanders Howard

BEAVER DAM - Carroll Sanders Howard, 57, of Cromwell died Monday, April 18, 2005, at his home. He was self-employed in sanitation removal and was a member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church near Beaver Dam.

Survivors include a daughter, Jaujauna C. Bratcher; a brother, James H. Howard; and a sister, Brenda Sue Hoover.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial: Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation: From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jeffrey Lee Gillstrap

LEXINGTON - Jeffrey Lee Gillstrap, 44, of Lexington, husband of Clemmy Ann Gillstrap, died Sunday, April 17, 2005, at St. Joseph East Hospital. Born in Daviess County, he was a son of the late Dickie and Mary Teresa Gillstrap. He was the owner of Comedy off Broadway, Comedy Caravan in Louisville and an employee of Clear Channel Communications at WLAP. He was a member of Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Survivors other than his wife are his children, Adam and Ashley Gillstrap; two brothers, Pete (Shelia) Gillstrap of Campton and Pat (Debbie) Gillstrap of Beaver Dam; two sisters, Teresa (Russell) Clark of Indianapolis and Donna Gillstrap of Lexington; and two aunts, Betty Taylor and Betty Lois Gillstrap, both of Beaver Dam.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. EST Wednesday at Cathedral of Christ the King Catholic Church, by Father Larry Hehman. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on Main Street in Lexington. Dorothy Mary (Keeter) Garrett

Dorothy Mary (Keeter) Garrett, 88, was born Jan. 18, 1917, near Clovis, N.M. She died Sunday April 17, 2005, at her home in Owensboro surrounded by family and her pet. Dorothy graduated from North Texas State Teachers College in 1940. She retired as librarian of South Spencer High School in 1984 after 25 years. She enjoyed reading, watching baseball and being involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Tom, whom she married on Jan. 17, 1942; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jim Wright of Lynnville, Ind.; two sons, Larry Garrett of Boonville, Ind., and Michael Garrett of Owensboro; three grandchildren, Jamie Tooley of Oak Forest, Ill., Jeffrey Wright of Evansville and Melissa Minton of Gainesville, Ga.; six great-grandchildren, Erin, Meghan and Katie Tooley and Alex, Emily and David Minton; two sisters, Jeff Rae Cook of Sterling, Kan., and Jo Dell King of Norman, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial will be in Patoka cemetery in Patoka, Ind. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until time of service on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Nelle Etta Calvert

Nelle Etta Calvert, 100, formerly of St. Elmo, Ill., and Livermore died Thursday April 14, 2005, in Riverside Manor in Calhoun. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 18, at the Kessel Funeral Home in St. Elmo. Burial followed the service at Maplewood cemetery in St. Elmo. Nelle was born on Sept. 7, 1904, in Shelby County, Ill., the daughter of John F. and Nancy Rosetta (Storm) Patterson. She was a telephone operator for National Trail Telephone Co. for 31 years and retired in 1973. She was a member of the First Church of God, the St. Elmo Friendly Neighbors, the Rebekah's and Garden Club.

She married Lester Calvert on May 30, 1953, in St. Elmo and he preceded her in death in 1978. She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis (husband, the late Stanley) Stewart of Friendswood, Texas, Joan Boatz of Springfield, Ill., and Nancy (husband, Ralph) Wetzel of Livermore; two sons, Darrel Lee (wife, Ruth) Sims of San Diego and Jack (wife, Nancy) Sims of Evans, Ga.; a stepson, Maurice (wife, Helen) Calvert of Sarasota, Fla.; and a stepdaughter-in-law, Margaret Brooks of Pekin, Ill.; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; three brothers; two stepsons; and a son-in-law.

Golda Jennings Barker

Mrs. Golda Jennings Barker, 86, of 2005 Hughes Ave., Owensboro, died Monday, April 18, 2005, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. She was born Aug. 19, 1918, to the late Estil and Lura Dell Rice Densford in Owensboro. She retired as a nurse's aide at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital after 21 years. She was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church and enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, L.D. Jennings, in 1993, and her second husband, Earl Barker, in 1999; a son, Jackie Jennings, in 1943; a daughter, Dorothy Roberts, in 2000; and a son-in-law, Earl Ray Roberts, in 2004.

Survivors include three sons, David Lee Jennings and his wife, Martha, of Whitesville, L.D. Jennings Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Owensboro, and Larry Jennings and his wife, Julia, of Owensboro; two daughters, Doris Mayes and her husband, Bobby, of Owensboro and Linda Horton of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Nellie Churchill and Hazel Potter, both of Lansing, Mich., and Bobby McElwain of Gray Summit, Mo.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home, with burial in Karns Grove cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
