Charles Edward 'Fats' Ashby Sr.

BEAVER DAM - Charles Edward "Fats" Ashby Sr., 81, of Beaver Dam died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Cromwell to William M. and Virgie Lee Wallace Ashby. Mr. Ashby and his father established W.M. Ashby & Son Blacksmith Shop in Beaver Dam after returning from his service in World War II. This business continued and eventually became known as the Ashby Welding Shop. He was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and Plumbing & Pipefitters Local No. 184. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Kathleen Ashby.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Margaret Jean Ashby of Beaver Dam; four sons, Charles E. "Eddie" Ashby and wife, Brenda, Jimmy L. Ashby and wife, Helen, and William C. Ashby and wife, Lois, all of Beaver Dam, and John T. Ashby and wife, Jo Ann, of Hartford; a daughter, Cheryl Walden and husband, Paul, of Utica; a sister, Ruby Best of Taylorsville; an aunt, Eva Evans of Louisville; 16 grandchildren, Tiffany Curtis, Jimmy "Jim-Bob" Ashby, Steven Walden, Trent Ashby, Nicole Bullock, Will Ashby, Ashley Hamby, Suzannah Ashby, Matthew Ashby, John D. Ashby, Jeff Ashby, Ashley Atherton, Jeremy Moore, Brian Bechtel, Jackie Moore and Camisha Kassinger; seven great-grandchildren, Janie Walden, Hayley Bullock, Dillon Curtis, Zaiden Walden, Breanna Atherton, Amelia Bechtel and Dalton Bechtel; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rocky.

Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, with the Rev. Glenn Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Freddie T. Blair

CLOVERPORT - Freddie T. Blair, 80, of Cloverport died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He had worked in the home improvement business and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Larry Thomas Blair; three daughters, Rhonda Gaye Ammerman, Sabrina Joy Blair and Sharon Kay Hicks; two brothers, Charles W. Blair and Earl "Buck" K. Blair; and two sisters, Shirley Coomes and Martha Jean Stewart.

Services: 4 p.m. today at Wallace-Burns Funeral Home in Cloverport. Burial: Cloverport cemetery. Visitation: After 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Marion Ray Casteel

CENTERTOWN - Marion Ray Casteel, 32, of Centertown died Wednesday, April 20, 2005. He attended Centertown Tabernacle and was a factory worker.

Survivors include his father, Marion Ray Casteel Sr.; his mother and stepfather, Cheryl Ann and Alfonso Sanchez; a brother, Jamie Scott Casteel; a sister, Michelle Nanette Casteel; and his grandparents, Marvin and Faye Casteel.

Services: Noon Friday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Centertown. Burial: Antioch cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ella Rebecca Tyson Campbell

GRAHAM - Ella Rebecca Tyson Campbell, 78, of Graham died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at her home after several months' illness. She was a file clerk for Dr. Scholl's in Chicago before retiring.

Survivors include four sons, Bobby Campbell, Benney Campbell, Jerry Campbell and Ronnie Campbell; a daughter, Ann Bivins; and a sister, Margaret Groves.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial: Graham Hill cemetery in Graham. Visitation: From 5 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Delbert Disler
04/28/2005

Delbert Disler, 91, of One Park Place in Owensboro passed on April 26, 2005, at 9:37 p.m. at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Owensboro. Until four years ago he resided in Oakland City, Ind., and wintered in Palm Harbor, Fla.

Mr. Disler was born in Fort Wayne, Ind., and after graduation from Southside High School, attended Purdue University on a football scholarship. After three semesters he transferred to Manchester College, where he played football until graduating with a BS degree in physical education, health and biology. He then got his master's degree from Indiana University where he was inducted into the Phi Delta Kappa Honorary Fraternity. During World War II he served as a first lieutenant in the Air Force in San Antonio. After the war he attended the University of Evansville to complete requirements for a high school principal and superintendent's license. He went to Oakland City College and coached basketball and baseball, was athletic director and taught driver's education, health and physical education for 18 1/2 years. At the same time he taught social studies and economics at Oakland City High School and coached football. In 1965 when Oakland City consolidated and became Wood Memorial he was hired as the school's first principal. Five years later he was named superintendent of East Gibson School Corp., thus fulfilling a lifetime goal, and enjoyed the position until he retired in 1978.

He was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist in Oakland City and enjoyed 51 years of perfect attendance at the Kiwanis Club. He was inducted into the first hall of fame in 1993 at Oakland City University. As a college coach "Chief" Disler enabled many young men to attend college who would not otherwise have been able to go.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bettye Marvel Disler, their two daughters, Jennifer (Tom) Green of Owensboro and Martha (Greg) Clark of Louisville; and a son, Mike (Carole) Disler of Sebring, Fla. They also have six grandsons, a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter. The seventh of 12 children, he is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Disler; and a sister, Edna Augenstein, both of Fort Wayne.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, with Dr. Douglas Low officiating. Burial will be in Montgomery cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lamb-Basham Memorial in Oakland City and from 9:30 a.m. until services at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers donations maybe given to Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Oakland City or the Delbert Disler Memorial Scholarship Fund at Oakland City University established by his former players.

Truman Davis

MADISONVILLE - Truman Davis, 79, of 4005 College Heights Drive, Madisonville, died at 9:56 p.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1926, in McLean County. He was a retired farmer and construction worker and a member of Towers Chapel General Baptist Church and Sacramento Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Gene Davis; and a sister, Juanita Dement.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Elogine Taylor Davis; a son, Paul Allen Davis of Elmore, Ala.; two daughters, Shirley Bozell of Greenville and Connie Somers of Hanson; grandchildren, Sherry Gish, Danielle Tompkins, Jeremy Baldwin, Jarrod Baldwin, Matthew Somers, Samantha Somers, Ashland Davis, Brandi Barnes, Christopher Barnes, Mindy Bozell, Christopher Bozell, Billie Bozell, Bobby Bozell and Jamie Bozell; six great-grandchildren, Jakob Baldwin, Noah Baldwin, Connor Baldwin, Tyler Jones, Sean Phelps and Lexi Beatty; and a sister, Elva Lee McKenney.

Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento, with the Rev. Jesse Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Free Union cemetery in Sacramento. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Baldwin, Jarrod Baldwin, Matthew Somers, Dennis Dement, Ronald Dame and Ricky Dame.

Jeffrey A. Smith

HARTFORD - Jeffrey A. Smith, 44, of Hartford died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at his home. He was born in Hammond, Ind., and was a welder and member of Faith Baptist Temple in Beaver Dam. He was preceded in death by his mother, Emogene Wells Pruitt.

Survivors include his wife, Angela Howard Smith of Hartford; three sons, Tyler Smith and Adam Smith, both of Hartford, and David Whittaker of Horse Branch; three daughters, Amanda K. (Jeremy) Autry of Horse Branch, Amanda Scott of Tinley Park, Ill., and Trisha Smith of Hartford; a sister, Linda (Lee Jay) Martin of Momence, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jakob Quisenberry, Madalynn Quisenberry and Gavin Wade Autry; and six nieces and four nieces.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Faith Baptist Temple in Beaver Dam, with Brother Truman Cooper officiating. Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth 'Johnny' Jenkins

MORGANFIELD - Kenneth 'Johnny' Jenkins, 67, of Morganfield died at 8:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at his home in Boxville. He was born on May 21, 1937. Johnny worked as a pipefitter-welder for many years through Local No. 633 and was a perfectionist in his work. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His wit and sense of humor will be missed by those who love him the most. He truly touched many lives.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Lee Jenkins of Morganfield; three daughters, Lisa Hunt of Morganfield, Faye Lynn Stallings of Houston and Michelle Jenkins of Evansville; a sister, Mildred "Millie" Phillips of Madison Heights, Mich.; a brother, David Donan Jenkins of Sturgis; seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Meghan, B.J., Amanda, Savannah, Bobby Lloyd and Jennifer, two great-grandchildren, Haley and Grace; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, with Brother Sam Belo officiating. Burial will be in Boxville cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Leslie Ann Eastin Southwick

Leslie Ann Eastin Southwick, 26, of Owensboro left to be with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was diagnosed with primary pulmonary hypertension in December 2000. She was born in Houston on March 6, 1979. She was the daughter of Jimmie and Judy Eastin of Owensboro; wife of Zackery Southwick; and mother of Abigail Paige and Noah Chandler Southwick, all of Owensboro. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, granddaughter, aunt and friend who touched the lives of many people. She loved the Lord and the life she was blessed with and spending time with those she loved and met. She taught everyone through her journey and time here on Earth, how to live life and not take it for granted but to see the beauty of life and know that each day was to be treasured. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Edith "Head" Garven.

She is also survived by four sisters, Misty Benson of Benson, N.C., Tonya Bunnell of Cameron, N.C., Marisa Szlachta of Fayetteville, N.C., and Noni Henderson of Owensboro; a brother, Jeremy Jones of Hungary; her paternal grandfather, Leslie G. "Buck" Moore of Owensboro; maternal grandparents, Nova Jean and Thomas Pauley of Elkview, W.Va.; her great-aunt, Mary Wanda and great uncle, Randall Aull, both of Owensboro; a great-aunt, Loretta Stevens of Titusville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

May she bring as much happiness in Heaven as she did while here on Earth.

Services are private. Inurnment will be in Sorgho Baptist Church cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association Inc., 850 Sligo Ave., No. 800, Silver Spring, MD 20910.

Clarice D. Jones

CENTRAL CITY - Clarice D. Jones, 86, of Central City died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. She was a homemaker and a member of Central City Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include two sons, Joe Jones and Conace Jones; and six daughters, Justine Skaggs, Barbara Veitch, Deanna Ryan, Vonda Webster, Debra Koenig and Kathy Craig.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
