A.E. 'Tony' Gerteisen

A.E. "Tony" Gerteisen, 64, of 7048 Highway 2830, Maceo, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at his home. He was born in Daviess County to the late Louis and Martha Girvin Gerteisen Jr. He was the owner-operator of Gordon's Custom Framing and a co-owner and manager of Val-U Liquors and Iron Horse Liquors. He enjoyed playing the stock market, baseball and going to his farm. He was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lindy, James and Charles Jacob Gerteisen.

Survivors include two sisters, Mary Jo Rusher and Suellen McKay, both of Maceo; two brothers, Donald A. Gerteisen of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jack H. Gerteisen of Anchorage, Alaska; two nieces and 10 nephews; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-niece.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Glenn Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Mater Dolorosa cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with prayers Thursday evening, and after 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, 333 Guthrie St., Suite 207, Louisville, KY 40202.

Harry G. Greathouse

MORGANTOWN - Harry G. Greathouse, 85, of Beaver Dam died at 12:45 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at Ohio County Hospital. He was born in Butler County and was a retired laborer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Union Hall in Owensboro and a lifetime member of DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel Greathouse and Annie Sorrells Greathouse; his wife, Floye Crowe Greathouse; and a son, Danny Greathouse.

Survivors include a son, Wayne and his wife, Jonell, Greathouse of Morgantown; a sister, Edna Foster and her husband, Joe, of Morgantown; a brother, Vinuard Greathouse and his wife, Jeanette; three grandchildren, Paul Greathouse and his wife, Dominique, of Hendersonville, Tenn., Pamela McDowell and her husband, Brian, and Stephanie Greathouse; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home chapel in Morgantown. Burial: Pleasant Hill cemetery.

Hazel C. Hardison

LIVERMORE - Hazel C. Hardison, 94, of Livermore died Monday, Aug. 8., 2005, at Hillcrest Healthcare Center in Owensboro. Hazel Lorene Coffman was born May 12, 1911, in Ohio County to the late Claude and Eunice Bishop Coffman. She had retired from the former S.W. Anderson's department store in Owensboro and was a member of Livermore Missionary Baptist Church. Hazel was preceded in death by a son, Bruce Hardison, who died Aug. 18, 2000; a brother, James Coffman; and a sister, Rita Abney.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Larry C. and Patricia Hardison of Livermore; a daughter-in-law, Linda Hardison of Livermore; five grandchildren, Angela Settle, Mary Ann Rafferty, Christina Hudson, Elise Coleman and Laura Szefi; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Shockley officiating. Burial will be in Waltons Creek cemetery in Ohio County. Friends may visit with the Hardison family from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at Musters in Livermore.

The Hardison family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Livermore Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 287, Livermore, KY 42352. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Musters in Livermore.

G. Keith Ware

HONOLULU - G. Keith Ware died June 21, 2005, at his home in Honolulu at the age of 83. Born in Whitesville, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Beatrice Olga Wilson; and his brother, Hilton M. Ware.

He is survived by his son, Charles; a daughter, Sallie; four grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Senters; a brother, Caleb Ware Jr.; a cousin, Allie Dillehay; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Ware; a nephew, J. Patrick Ware; and a niece, Sharon Ware.

A. Lincoln Winkler

A. Lincoln Winkler, 81, of 2926 Southland Road, Owensboro, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Daviess County to the late Grover and Ethel (Gordon) Winkler. He was retired from General Electric Co. and was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and F&AM No. 130. He was preceded in death by his wife, May White Winkler, on Oct. 25, 1989; and by a brother and two sisters, Cletus Winkler, Anna Laura Husk and Martine Craig.

He is survived by a son, Steven Winkler of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a daughter, Wanda Isbill of Pleasant Ridge; a grandson, Trey Isbill; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at James H. Davis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Hope Regina Carbon

Hope Regina Carbon, 48, of 1205 Leitchfield Road, Owensboro, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System.

Survivors include her husband, Eddie Carbon; a daughter, Misty Deneal Webb; a stepson, Eddie Thomas Carbon; her father and stepmother, Bob and Donna Jean Williams; her mother, Naomi Williams; and a brother, Allen Neal Williams.

Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial: Gish cemetery in Bremen. Visitation: After 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nancy Medcalf Gilmore

Mrs. Nancy Medcalf Gilmore, 81, of Owensboro died Monday, Aug. 8, 2005, at the home of her daughter. Born in Hancock County, a daughter of the late Forest L. Sr. and Flora Daviess Medcalf, she graduated from Daviess County High School and the former Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital School of Nursing. Her career was spent as an emergency room nurse at Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital and the Henderson Community Methodist hospital, from which she retired. She was an exceptional cook, specializing in cakes, pies and homemade candy, particularly hand-dipped chocolates which she enjoyed giving to family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Gilmore Sr. in 1996; and her brother, Forest L. Medcalf Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Ann Gilmore Koehler and her husband, Randy, of Owensboro; her sons, Jim Gilmore Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and Steve Gilmore and his wife, Gay, of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Andrea Bandy, Matthew Ambrose and Ben Ambrose, all of Owensboro, and Natalee Gilmore, Todd Gilmore and Scott Gilmore, all of Lexington; and her great-grandchildren, Morgan Maddox and Logan Studstill, both of Owensboro.

Services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home, where visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Ohio Valley or the local chapter of the American Heart Association.

James W. Hayes

LOUISVILLE - James W. Hayes of Craigs Creek Drive, Louisville, formerly of Owensboro, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Britthaven Nursing Home in Prospect. He was born Jan. 31, 1911, in Chicago. He retired from Mufti Ltd., a tailor shop in California, as a tailor. He was a Marine Corps veteran, a member of Westpoint Road Baptist Church in Louisville and an avid golfer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Irene Hayes, in 1995; his parents, Henry and Rose Strong Hayes; and a grandson, Jeremy Hayes, in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Bart Hayes and his wife, Melinda, of Louisville; a grandson, James D. Hayes of Louisville; and two great-grandchildren, Max and Sophie Hayes of Owensboro.

Services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel in Owensboro, with Dr. David Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Cates cemetery in Whitesville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideon Bibles.

Herman C. Sanders

FORDSVILLE - Herman C. Sanders, 91, of Fordsville died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at University of Louisville Hospital. He was born in Hancock County and was a retired construction worker. He was a member of Hartford Apostolic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Sanders; and two sons, Gene Sanders and Jerry Sanders.

He is survived by six sons, Clifford "I.V." Sanders of Reynolds Station and Denford Sanders, Leon Sanders, James Lee Sanders and Daniel Sanders, all of Fordsville, and Glenn Sanders of Louisville; four daughters, Darlene House, Kathy Richards and Joyce Sanders, all of Fordsville, and Karen King of Louisville; two sisters, Dorothy Carver of Ohio and Booch Weedman of Louisville; 30 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Geary Funeral Home in Fordsville, with burial in Newton Springs cemetery in Hancock County, with graveside military honors. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nettie Mae Ranburger White

Mrs. Nettie Mae Ranburger White, 85, of Auburn died Sunday evening at Auburn Health Care Facility. A native of Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph William Ranburger and Ida Mayfield McCoy Ranburger. Mrs. White was a member of the Auburn Baptist Church and worked at Auburn Hosiery Mill, Potter & Brumfield in Franklin and was a postal clerk in South Union. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edward White; a daughter, Viola May Whitmer Dunn; and a son, James David Whitmer.

Survivors include two grandchildren, David Whitmer of Bowling Green and Cindy Holt of Hendersonville, Tenn; and two great-grandchildren, Stephanie Holt and Dillon Holt, both of Hendersonville.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Crafton Funeral Home in Franklin, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with burial to follow in Auburn cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
