HARDINSBURG - Shelby Blythe, 73, of Harned died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, in Hardinsburg. He was an Army veteran and retired from General Motors.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Burden Blythe; three sons, Shelby Allen Blythe, Scott Willoughby and Keith Barnes; five daughters, Shelley Crowe, Tonya Reynolds, Libby Donley, LaQuita Thomas and Wendy Willoughby; two sisters, Alma Caldwell and Eva Rae Richardson; and two brothers, Jim Blythe and Bill Blythe.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg. Burial: Garfield cemetery. Visitation: From 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Marguerite Ashley Duke

HARTFORD - Marguerite Ashley Duke, 91, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City, Ind. She was born in Bowling Green, the daughter of the late Thomas Bradley and Lulu Whitehead Jones Ashley. She was co-owner, with her husband, the late Hugh E. Duke Sr., of Dundee General Store and the Duke Funeral Homes in Ohio County. She was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church and the Lizzie Ford Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Ann Schirtzinger and husband, Cecil, of Tell City; two sons, Thomas B. Duke and wife, Pat, of Dundee and Hugh E. Duke Jr. and wife, Cyndy, of Panama City, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Teri Braaten, Cecil Bill Schirtzinger, David Schirtzinger, Patti Dant, Tammy Duke, Brad Duke, Carey Ruiz, the Rev. Eddie Duke, Kim Patton and Brad Patton; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, William T. Ashley and wife, Betty, of Pickens, S.C.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Duke-Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Hartford, with the Rev. Eddie Duke and the Rev. Sandy Douglass officiating. Pallbearers will be Brad Duke, Cecil Bill Schirtzinger, David Schirtzinger, Jeff Braaten, Marc Dant and Grover Oliver. Burial will follow in Oakwood cemetery in Hartford. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hartford United Methodist Church.

Daisy Pike O'Bryan

Daisy Pike O'Bryan, 82, formerly of West Louisville, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Jan. 18, 1923, in Curdsville and retired from General Electric after 37 years in assembly. She was the former owner of O'Bryan Tavern and a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman B. O'Bryan, in 1998; her parents, Lawrence Pike and Ola Allgood Pike; an infant daughter, Joan O'Bryan; and two brothers, Lawrence Pike Jr. and Gene Pike.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald O'Bryan and his wife, Kathy, of Kokomo, Ind., William Larry "Bill" O'Bryan and his wife, Becky, of Sorgho and Patrick Ray O'Bryan and his wife, Susan, of West Louisville; grandchildren, Scott, Marc and Chris O'Bryan, all of Kokomo, Katie O'Bryan of Chattanooga, John O'Bryan of Sorgho and Nicole and Terra O'Bryan of West Louisville; two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Carson O'Bryan of Kokomo; and two brothers, Bill Pike and John Pike, both of Curdsville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Hayes officiating. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus cemetery in St. Joseph.

Mary Frances Hudnall Riley

MORGANTOWN - Mary Frances Hudnall Riley, 74, of Morgantown died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2005, at the Medical Center at Bowling Green. She was born in Butler County and was a member of Morgantown Community Church. She worked at General Electric and retired from the Owensboro School System. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Riley, the former Owensboro chief of police; and her parents, Ellis Hudnall and Lelia Gidcumb Hudnall. She was preceded in death by a son, Barry Riley; and two sisters, Dorsie Foster and Hazel Hudnall.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Riley of Owensboro; three sons, Wesley Riley and wife, Nola, of Lancaster, Calif., Larry Riley of Caseyville, Ill., and Ray Riley and wife, Joyce, of Temecula, Calif.; two sisters, Margie Flener of Morgantown and Opal Shields of Cromwell; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Smith Funeral Home in Morgantown, with burial at noon in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Andrew 'Andy' Wilson

Andrew "Andy" Wilson, 3, of 1626 West 9th St., Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Daviess County and attended the Baptist church. He loved the Sesame Street character, Elmo, and loved playing ball and with his toys and being outside. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Marvin Dallas Wilson Sr., in 1987.

Survivors include his mother, Christina Wilson of Owensboro; his grandmother, Mary Wilson of Owensboro; his maternal great-grandmother, Mary Jo Dossett of Owensboro; his brother, River Wilson and his sister, Emma Jo Wilson, both of Owensboro; an aunt, Jennifer Hulsey and an uncle, Marvin Dallas Wilson Jr., both of Owensboro; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, at Glenn Funeral Home chapel, with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Ilene Blake Wills

METROPOLIS, Ill. - Ilene Blake Wills, 86, of Metropolis died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis. Ilene Dorothy Blake was born Jan. 9, 1919, in Pleasant Valley to the late William Henry and Artie Mitchell Blake, was reared in Fleming County and was later married to Clyde Landon Wills. Mrs. Wills graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College and Eastern Kentucky University. From 1956 until 1970, she taught at Calhoun Elementary School, most of those years having taught first grade. She and her husband owned the McLean County News from 1946 until 1972. Mrs. Wills was also a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church, where she had served as the church organist for several years. She later lived in both Berea and Frankfort. In retirement Mrs. Wills was the volunteer co-editor of "Bluegrass Roots," the magazine of the Kentucky Genealogical Society. Her husband, Landon Wills, died May 14, 1998. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, David Wills; a stepgrandson, Bryan Westerfield; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Baird Wills; and three brothers, Howard, Herbert and Henry Paul Blake.

Survivors include six sons, Alvin Wills of Merced, Calif., Clyde Wills of Metropolis, Robert Wills of Shawville, Quebec, Richard Wills of Montreal, Quebec, Lawrence Wills of Cambridge, Mass., and Thomas Wills of Chapel Hill, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Alexander, Jesse, Simon, Ethan, Lindsay, Laura, Jessica and Daniel; three stepgrandchildren, Linda, Simone and Dana; a brother, Dr. Robert Blake of Maysville; and a sister-in-law, Mary June Parks of Middletown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calhoun United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold Dorsey and the Rev. Ken Berggren officiating. Burial will be in Calhoun cemetery. Friends may visit with the Wills family from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. A video tribute of Mrs. Ilene Wills' life will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday at Muster's in Calhoun.

The Wills family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Calhoun United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 65, Calhoun, KY 42327. Memorial contribution envelopes will be available at Muster's in Calhoun.

Dorothy Nell Spinks

Dorothy Nell Spinks, 82, of 2925 Baybrook St., Owensboro, on Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at her granddaughter, Robin Haney's, home. She was born June 5, 1923, in Muhlenberg County and retired from S.S. Kresge and Kmart as a sales clerk. She was a member of Crosspointe Baptist Church and active in many church activities. She enjoyed visiting nursing homes and gardening, family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Spinks, in 1993; her parents, Charles Williams and Lora T. Roberson Williams; a daughter, Sandra N. Spinks; a brother, Charles Williams; a half brother, Roger Williams; and a daughter-in-law, Patsy A. Spinks.

Survivors include four sons, Eugene Spinks and his wife, Shirley, William R. Spinks and Barry W. Spinks and his wife, Linda, all of Owensboro, and Danny J. Spinks and his wife, Patricia, of Newburgh, Ind.; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a half brother, Lloyd Williams of Central City; two sisters, Agnes Noffsinger of Central City and Jane Harreld of Utica; and two half sisters, Margaret Williams and Nancy Williams, both of Central City.

Services are at 2 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Farrell Isenberg officiating. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The family wishes that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Crosspointe Baptist Church Building Fund, 550 Worthington Road, Owensboro, KY 42301 or Hospice and Palliative Care, 723 Harvard Drive, Owensboro, KY 42301.

Loyd 'Tom' Smith

HARDINSBURG - Loyd "Tom" Smith, 60, of Hardinsburg died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. He was a self-employed logger.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Smith; two sons, Barry Smith and Garry Smith; a daughter, Janice Pate; and three sisters, Linda Boddie, Murline Price and Judy Smiley.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Wallace-Burns Funeral Home in Cloverport. Burial: Cloverport cemetery. Visitation: From 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions: Breckinridge Health Inc., Relay for Life 2006.

Rita Russell
08/07/2005

Rita Russell, 60, of Owensboro died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at her home after a brave battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 18, 1945, to the late Cosmas and Helen Russellburg Clark in Daviess County. She was a member of SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar for Mass, doing crafts and spending time with her grandchildren. She was loved by all who came in contact with her.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Barr, who died Sept. 25, 1989.

Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Jim Russell; one daughter, Kim Dever, and her husband, Eric, of Owensboro; two sons, Cliff Russell and his wife, Suzanne, of Owensboro and Chris Russell and his wife, Sonja, of New Albany, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Kelly and Drew Dever, Sarah, Morgan and Nicholas Russell, Liberty, Joshua and Jacob Russell; seven brothers, Justin Clark and his wife, Minnie, of Philpot, Jamie Clark and his wife, Peggy, of Whitesville, Kenny Clark and his wife, Angie, Joe Clark and his wife, Mary Jane, Cliff Clark and his wife, Brenda, and Frank Clark, all of Owensboro, and Curt Clark and his wife, Eileen, of Channahon, Ill.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home with prayers said at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will be after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rita Russell Memorial Fund, c/o First Security Bank, 300 Frederica St., Owensboro, KY 42301.

Lela Crowther North

BEAVER DAM - Lela Crowther North, 79, of 135 James Nacey Lane, Beaver Dam, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born Nov.. 25, 1925, to the late Clyde Crowther and Margaret Mae Star Crowther in Salt Lake City. She retired as a security officer from L&N Security in Lockeford, Calif., and was a member of Hartford Baptist Church, Drill Team Eagles Lodge in Salt Lake City and Fort Hartford Muzzleloaders. She was a Kentucky Colonel and persona non gradat to the governor of Utah. She was formerly employed by the juvenile division of Salt Lake City Police Department and enjoyed bingo, crocheting, was a devoted homemaker and married for 60 years.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Lee North of Beaver Dam; a son, David Paul North, and his wife, Val, of Lockeford; two daughters, Linda Lee Knobloch of Lodi, Calif., and Norma Mitchell and her husband, Joe, of Beaver Dam; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Hartford. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to American Cancer Society, c/o Betty Lindsey, Ohio County Memorial Chair, 360 Brey Lane, Hartford, KY 42347.

Sandra Catherine 'Grammy' Wilson

BEAVER DAM - Sandra Catherine "Grammy" Wilson, 50, died at her home in Hartford on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005. She was a grandmother, was born in Missouri and was a member of Gospel of Peace Church in Bowling Green.

Survivors include five daughters, Sonnett Bennett, Natalie Coleman, Sara Gillstrap, Mary Sumner and Eva Kate Wilson; 10 grandkids, Kori, Cameron, Peyton and Bo Bennett, Max, Mason and Mya Coleman, Abby Faith, Joel Dylan and Ellijah Love Sumner; her parents, James Wilson and Betty Hines Wilson; a sister, Ginger Raymond; and a brother, Jimmy Wilson.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Bevil Bros. Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Ronald McDonald House in Louisville.
