Sherry Lynn Oost Hillard, 39, of Owensboro died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Daviess County and was a homemaker and a Christian.

She is survived by her companion of 31/2 years, Robert Head of Owensboro; a son, David Anthony Hillard, at home; her mother and father, Donna and Charles Scott of Owensboro; and two brothers, Brian and Gary Oost, both of Owensboro.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Clear Run cemetery in Ohio County. Visitation begins after 2 p.m. today at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville. There is no visitation Thursday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Sherry Lynn Oost Hillard Memorial.

James Edgar 'Chick' Knight

BROWDER - James Edgar "Chick" Knight, 61, of Browder died Monday evening of a heart attack at Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was born Dec. 1, 1942, to the late William "Happy" Knight and Bessie Knight in Muhlenberg County. He was formerly employed by Ensign Bickford. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

He is survived by a son, James Anthony "Tony" Knight of Browder; a sister, June Hill of Browder; and a brother, Bobby Harold Knight of Beaver Dam.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Mr. Knight will lie in state at Ebenezer Baptist Church from noon to 1 p.m. Visitation will be today, Oct. 20, at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Don Piper will officiate.

The Rev. James P. Hall

HARTFORD - The Rev. James P. Hall, 83, of Hartford died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at his home in Hartford. Brother Hall was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Taylor Mines in Ohio County to the late Enich Albert Hall and Nella F. Watson Hall. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Brother Hall was a retired minister of the Church of God of Prophecy and was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of God of Prophecy. He also retired as a miner from Peabody Coal Co. He enjoyed his church, family, friends and fishing. He was preceded in death by three infants and an adult son, David L. Hall, on Sept. 27, 1987.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Anna Maurece Hall; a son and his wife, Lanny S. and Marion Hall of Germany; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Darlene Hawkins of Charlotte, N.C., and Susan and Jim White of Prosser, Wash.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Ridge Church of God of Prophecy, with the Rev. Henry Tindle and the Rev. Kenneth McIntyre officiating. Burial will be in Rosine cemetery in Ohio County. Friends may visit with the Hall family from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a memorial service from 7 to 8 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the church. Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel, is handling arrangements for the Hall family.

The Hall family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Hospice of Ohio County, 1211 Main St., Hartford, KY 42347. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Edith Wydick Harlan

BREMEN - Edith Wydick Harlan, 85, of 12105 Highway 181 North, Bremen, died at 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. She was born April 16, 1919, in Ohio County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Shaver's Chapel United Methodist Church and Bremen Order of the Eastern Star No. 96.

Survivors include three sons, David and wife, Faye Harlan, of Bremen, the Rev. Dale and wife, Jettie Carol Harlan, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Timothy and wife, Charlotte Harlan, of Bremen; six grandchildren, Chelsea, Todd, Brent, Dwight, Dwayne and Lori Ann; and six great-grandchildren, Candace, Kristen, Patrick, Lindsey, Casey and Kelly.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Gary Whitworth officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery in Central City. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Eastern Star services are at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Landon Denis Vance
10/19/2004

Landon Denis Vance, infant son of James and Jennifer Gaddis Vance of 2938 Lewis Lane, Owensboro, passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at University of Louisville Hospital.

Also surviving besides his parents are his paternal grandmother, Patsy Vance of Lewisburg; maternal grandparents, Tanne and Dennis Gaddis of Owensboro; his great-grandparents, Minnie Chambers and Othell and Geraldine Gaddis, all of Owensboro; and two sisters, Virginia and Gabrielle Vance, both at home.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church, with the burial following in Resurrection cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to SS. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church, 609 E. 4th St., Owensboro, KY 42303.

Sam Martin McElroy

MORGANFIELD - Sam Martin McElroy, 83, of Morganfield died at 7:18 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Union County Methodist Hospital. He was an elder of the Morganfield Presbyterian Church. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served as a captain in the 90th Division in Patton's 3rd Army.

He was born April 14, 1921, in Morganfield and returned there after attending the University of Kentucky and after serving three years in the Army during World War II. He was actively involved in agriculture and owned several businesses in Union County. He served as state representative from the 7th District from 1984 to 1994, when he retired. He was a former Morganfield National Bank Director and a farmer. In 1982, he received the AG Alumni of the Year at UK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Caswell Bennett and Lola O'Nan McElroy; a brother, James P. McElroy; and a great-granddaughter, Payton Michael McElroy.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Annie Meacham McElroy; a daughter, Susan Michael of Potomac, Md.; three sons, James B. McElroy, S. Martin McElroy Jr. and Charles T. McElroy, all of Morganfield; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Morganfield Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Morganfield Odd Fellow cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bellewood Presbyterian Children's Home, P.O. Box 23309, Anchorage, KY 40223, Union County Methodist Hospital Foundation or St. Anthony's Hospice.

Ben Taylor Albin

SACRAMENTO - Ben Taylor Albin, 88, of Sacramento died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at his home. He was a retired coal miner, a member of Station Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Albin; a son, James Taylor Albin; a daughter, Beth Albin Jackson; and three sisters, Martha Jean Rhodes, Judy Whitmer and Nancy Wooten.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Burial: Station Baptist cemetery in Sacramento. Memorial contributions: American Cancer Society.

Colleen Shultz Jones

BEAVER DAM - Colleen Shultz Jones, 73, of Beaver Dam died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. She was born in Ohio County, worked at Young Hardware Store in Beaver Dam and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Jones, who died Dec. 6, 1996; her parents, Merlin and Ada Lee Shultz; and a sister, Celestine Johnson.

Survivors include two sons, William Michael and wife, Rhonda Jones, of Beaver Dam and Keith and wife, Becky Jones, of Richardson, Texas; two daughters, Janice and husband, David McMurtry, of Lexington and Patti and husband, Tim Karn, of Pleasant Ridge; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Burial will be in Sunnyside cemetery in Beaver Dam. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, and from 9 a.m. to services Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideons International or Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Jesse E. Small

BEAVER DAM - Jesse E. Small, 84, of Beaver Dam died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He worked at Nestaway Coated Metallics and was a member of Central City Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Emmogene Small; three sons, The Rev. Dwight Small, Phillip Small and Mickey Small; two daughters, Karen Knight and Diane Steffey; a brother, Aldred Small; and a sister, Lorenia Mason.

Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Central City Church of God. Burial: Render Memorial cemetery in McHenry. Visitation: From 3 to 8 p.m. today at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam and after noon Tuesday at the church.

Marjorie Francis Wilcox

GREENVILLE - Mrs. Marjorie Francis Wilcox, 82, died Saturday at 7:25 a.m. in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness. She was born in Muhlenberg County on Jan. 4, 1922, the daughter of Mintal and Emma Warner Tooley. She lived on Cherry Street in Greenville. She was a member of the Greenville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Rayburn Yonts in 1977; and her second husband, Gene D. Wilcox in 1996.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Hurt of Greenville and Mrs. Linda Crick of Louisville; three grandchildren, Scott Thomason, Troy Crick and Cindy Laster; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Nadine Keiper of Walkerton, Ind.; and one brother, Allen Tooley of Greenville.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at 11 a.m. from Gary's Funeral Home by the Rev. Ray England and the Rev. Bob Thurman. Burial will be in Carter Creek cemetery in Greenville. Friends may call today between 5 and 8 p.m. at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville.
