Wilton Gene Lamb Sr.
09/15/2005

ARDMORE, Okla. - The Rev. Dr. Wilton Gene Lamb Sr. died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, in Ardmore. Born in 1928 in Calhoun to George and Margaret Lamb, Gene grew up learning farming, carpentry, love of country and love of God. He joined the Air Force at age 18, finding a wider world to explore. On Halloween in 1949, he had a blind date with a girl named Margaret Ralph, and it went so well that he married her 3 1/2 months later. He adored her all his life, and she him. After 20 years in the Air Force, he retired from formal service to his country and spent his next years in formal service to his God.

Gene entered TCU as a freshman at the age of 38, with a wife, two teenagers and three jobs. He completed a BA in religion, a masters in theology and a doctorate of ministry. Serving churches in Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma, Gene increased attendance, especially among young people, wherever he went. After 21 years and retirement from active ministry he became a much-in-demand interim minister, ably shepherding churches through difficult times. As busy as Gene's professional life was, his family always came first. With the big things in life, and with the small, with joys and with sorrows, he supported them with strength, wisdom and humor. Since the birth of his grandchildren, they have been his greatest delight.

Gene is survived by his wife, Margaret; a daughter, Colleen; a son, Gene, and daughter-in-law, Denise; grandchildren Brian and Katy; a sister, Carolyn, and his Ralph in-laws, who loved him as a blood brother.
