Hebron's Ron Harden, rock musician

Guitarist Ronald Robert Harden of Hebron knew success with a band called Naked Truth.

But Mr. Harden, known as "Rock 'n' Roll Ron," never turned his back on younger musicians.

"He would support any new band that was coming out," said his stepfather, Tom Reineke of Hebron.

"He would go out of his way to listen to them play, and help anybody he could.

"Ron's way of thinking about music is it would soothe the soul, no matter what kind of music it was. Different music soothed different people.

"It was good for the soul of everybody."

Mr. Harden, 32, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. He was a survivor of brain cancer for five years.

"Ron was a very spiritual young man and he touched a lot of hearts," said his mother, Kathy Reineke of Hebron.

Mr. Harden was born in South Carolina and reared in Erlanger.

The left-hander started playing bass guitar in a rock band when he was a student at Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood.

He was a member of Naked Truth when it won a local "battle of the bands" contest and advanced to competition in Chicago.

"They were a very well-known band in the Cincinnati area," said Mr. Reineke.

Mr. Harden later performed in local bars with a band called Bad Johnson.

But music was not the only joy of Mr. Harden's life.

"He had an infinite love for horses. His goal in life was to have a horse farm," said Mr. Reineke.

"He loved to go to the Red River Gorge rappeling and camping. He loved to water-ski and he loved to boat."

Mr. Harden studied at Northern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky.

He worked in a warehouse for the Gap and Banana Republic in Boone County for 10 years.

"He didn't know a stranger," said Mr. Reineke. "If he met a stranger, he was only a stranger for five minutes."

Other survivors include Mr. Harden's father, William Robert Harden of Mentone, Calif.; a brother, Don Harden of Union; a sister, Cindy Hite of Florence; and a stepbrother, Jason Reineke of Florence.
