Grace E. Irwin, 76, of Crescent Springs, died at 6 a.m. Sunday at her home. She was a retired employee of Southside Baptist Church Day Care Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Edie Montague of Crescent Springs; and one grandchild.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Latonia Baptist Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington 41014. Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Estelle L. Busam King, 84, of Newport, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a salesperson for McAlpin's, Cincinnati, and for Heileman Jewelers, Cincinnati. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport. She was also part of the Founding Members of the Newport Youth Canteen in the 1950s.

Survivors include her husband, Harold "Zip" King; a daughter, Shirley Hundemer of Cincinnati; a son, Jerome W. King of Naples, Fla.; a brother, William J. Busam Jr. of Newport; a sister, Hilda Bertram of Zellwood, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday A.C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Visitation will be there from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport, or to the American Diabetes. Association.

Emily C. Miskell, 72, formerly of Bellevue, died this morning at the home of her son, Ken Miskell of Edgewood. Arrangements are pending at A. C. Dobbling & Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Clarence M. Pabst, 89, of Highland Heights, died at 9:40 a.m. Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Opal Sutton Pabst, died in 1971.

Survivors include a sister, Mildred Pabst of Milford, Ohio; and his guardian, William Stull of Bellevue.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Vine Street Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Florence E. Price, 80, of Florence, died at 2:09 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence. A daughter, Constance L. Vogess, died in 1974.

Survivors include her husband, William A. Price; sons, Jack Lehr of Columbus, Ohio, William G. Price of Mason, Ohio, Mark A. Price of Taylor Mill, Peter D. Price of Falmouth, Paul J. Price of Latonia, Christopher J. Price of West Chester, Ohio, and Matthew F. Price of Latonia; daughters, Gail Lehr of Union, Cathleen Raker of Elsmere, Rhoda M. Plybon of Independence and Thersa Kron of Taylor Mill; brothers, Carl Lippmeier of West Chester, Ohio, and Charles Lippmeier of Batavia, Ohio; a sister, Cora Lee Bartels of Deer Park, Ohio; 26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 2655 Crescent Springs Road, Erlanger 41018.

Wanda Wingate Ryan, 68, of Knoxville, Tenn., formerly of Erlanger, died Monday at St. Mary Hospital in Knoxville. She was a retired employee of Stevens Drug Store, Knoxville, and a member of Inskip Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, James E. Ryan; a daughter, Linda R. Bryan of Knoxville; a son, James T. Ryan of Knoxville; a stepdaughter, Sue Cowart of Las Vegas; sisters, Joyce Rauch of Verona and Betty Wingate of Erlanger; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mynatt Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial will be in Woodhaven Cemetery in Powell, Tenn. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Ft. Wright 41011.

Jack H. Schoulthies, 74, of Bellevue, died at 8:40 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired manager with Cincinnati Bell. He also was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Newport; Bellevue Vets; Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge; Bellevue Rotary Club and Cincinnati Bell Pioneers. He was a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ries Schoulthies; daughters, Judy Schulte of Independence, Jackie Reinert of Denver and Joann Prigge of Woodlawn; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to the church, Park Avenue and Nelson Place, Newport 41071.

Earlene Humphries Wilson, 54, of Williamstown, died at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown. Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

John "Jack' Schmidt, spent lifetime serving community

John "Jack" Schmidt believed in giving to the community, whether it was more than 30 years with the Covington Fire Department, serving on the Ft. Wright City Council or volunteering at his church.

"He wanted to help people," said a son, Tom C. Schmidt, of El Paso, Texas . "He liked to be committed to things that he could make a difference in."

Mr. Schmidt, 70, of Ft. Wright, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday at his home.

A native of Latonia, he and his wife, Gloria Larsen Schmidt, moved to Ft. Wright about 14 years ago.

He was a retired assistant fire chief with the Covington Fire Department and a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia. He was a past president of the church's Boosters Club, the Holy Name Society and Firefighters Union local chapter.

Mr. Schmidt was a former Ft. Wright city councilman, first elected in the mid-1980s.

He also was a Navy veteran.

Fishing and church work were his favorite pastimes. He used to enjoy taking an annual fishing trip to the Land Between the Lakes with friends.

Other survivors include sons, John S. Schmidt of Ft. Wright and Stephen Schmidt of Villa Hills; a daughter, Diane Wagner of Edgewood; a brother, Elmer Schmidt of Ft. Wright; and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Notre Dame Scholarship Fund, 1601 Dixie Highway, Park Hills, Ky., 41011, or National Association of USS-LCSL, in care of Bob Augustad, 6715 Anders Terrace, Springfield, Va., 22151. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Lawrence F. Blank Jr., 56, of Clermont County, Ohio, formerly of Edgewood, died Monday at his home.

He was the owner of Larry Blank's Schwinn Cyclery, located in Covington and Florence, and a truck driver with Schneider National Trucking Co.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa L. Blank of Florence; his parents, Lawrence F. and Ruth G. Nehring Blank of Crestview Hills; and brothers, Richard Blank of Perry Park and Donald Blank of Park Hills.

Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ruth F. Mattingly, 75, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. She was a retired owner of R & R Pet Store, Bellevue, and a member of St. Stephen Church, Newport. Her husband, William Mattingly Sr., died in 1989. A son, William Mattingly Jr., died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Robert Mattingly of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Franciscan Mission Associates, PO Box 598, Mt. Vernon, N.Y.,10551-0598. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Emily C. Miskell, 71, of Edgewood, died at 12:54 a.m. Wednesday at her son's home in Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. Her husband, John Miskell, died in 1994.

Survivors include daughters, Loretta Sands of California, Carol Adams of Taylor Mill and Julie Hampton of Elsmere; sons, John Miskell of Taylor Mill, Michael Miskell of Burlington, Frederick Miskell and Kenneth Miskell, both of Edgewood; brothers, George Crusoe of Norwood, Ohio, and Robert Crusoe of San Diego; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial: Independence Cemetery.

James D. O'Brien, 70, of Edgewood, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

He was a retired maintenance man with St. Pius X. Church and School in Edgewood. He was a member of the church Holy Name Society.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Mary Hanneken O'Brien; daughters, Patti Steinmetz of Edgewood and Rose Marie Kuebbing of Latonia; sons, Dr. Michael J. O'Brien of Milford, Ohio, Dr. Thomas P. O'Brien of Endicott, N.Y., Dave R. O'Brien of Elsmere and Kenneth J. O'Brien of Covington; brothers, John O'Brien of Ft. Mitchell and Robert O'Brien of Villa Hills; a sister, Dorothy Halpin of Ft. Mitchell; and 13 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Sisters of Notre Dame, St. Elizabeth Medical Center Foundation, or Children's Hospital.
