Dolores Wieck Geis, 90, of Villa Hills, died at 2 p.m. Monday at Florence Park Care Center, Burlington. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of Legion of Mary. Her husband, Jerry Geis, died in 1976.

Survivors include stepdaughters, Gayle Geis of Park Hills, Marcia Hoppe of Mason, Ohio, and Judy Due of Charlotte, N.C.; a stepson, Dave Geis Sr. of Crescent Springs; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Church, 2470 Loraine Court, Crescent Springs, Ky. 41071; or to charity. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Richard H. Gerdes, 65, of Fort Thomas, died at 1 p.m. Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired route supervisor with Coors Dairy, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Therese Church, Southgate. He was a member of Bellevue Lions Club and Knights of Columbus Bishop Mulloy Council No. 1301 in Campbell County. He also was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Colyer Gerdes; daughters, Kathy Jones, Debby Doll, Karen Brunsman and Diane Jackson, all of Cincinnati; sons, Rick Gerdes and Ronald Gerdes, both of Cincinnati; stepsons, Doug Colyer and David Colyer, both of Walton, and Steve Colyer of Indianapolis; his mother, Catherine Theman Gerdes of Cincinnati; a sister, Mary Cappel of Cincinnati; a brother, Robert Gerdes of West Chester, Ohio; and 24 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Therese Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes. Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069; American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011; or to charity.

Leonard Alfonzo Green, 61, of Chicago, formerly of Covington, died Friday at Christ Hospital, Oakland, Ill. He was a retired employee of Acme Steel Co., Chicago.

Survivors include his father, Julius J. Green Jr. of Covington; sisters, Vivian Green, Naomi Larry, Peggy Barksdale, all of Chicago, Doris Myers of Dayton, Ohio, and Delores Griffin of Covington.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Cage Funeral Home, Chicago. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Chicago. Jones-Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling local arrangements.

Velma Fay Hawkins, 79, of Owenton, died Monday at Owen County Memorial Hospital in Owenton. She was a former employee of Western Auto, Owenton, and a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church, Glencoe. Her husband, Hubert Hawkins, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a brother, Buddy Stewart of Owenton; and sisters, Irene Burford of Owenton and Mary Frances Kelso of Frankfort.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to Poplar Grove Baptist Church, 10450 Highway 127 North, Glencoe, Ky. 41046.

Rev. Robert O'Neal Humphrey, 64, of Covington, died Aug. 6 St. Elizabeth Center North in Covington. He was a Baptist minister and a member of Corinthian Baptist Curch in Newport and Hurry, Berry-Smith VFW Post No. 7453. Survivors include sons, Robert Humphry and Michael Humphry; daughters, Tonia Humphry and Lisa Tyler; his mother, Virginia Taylor; brothers, Kerry Humphry, Donald Humphry, James Charles Humphry, Virgil Humphry and Otis Creamer; sisters, Ramona Humphry, Yvonne Humphry and Marcia Greene; 20 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of Northern Kentucky.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Corinthian Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kingdom World Outreach Center, Covington. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington.

Florence Ellen Popp Maxwell, 83, of Florence, died at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Sand Run Baptist Church, Hebron. Her husband, Everett R. Maxwell Sr., died in 1987.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy M. Poole of Hebron; sons, Raymond Maxwell and Everett "Junior" R. Maxwell Jr., both of Hebron; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

Bette J. Bohmer Metzger, 73, of Erlanger, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and worked for the Kenton County Board of Elections. She was a former member of Holy Cross St. Helen's Society in Latonia and was a member of Kentucky Cousins Square Dancing Group, Senior Citizens groups of St. Agnes and St. Pius X churches and the Irish Rovers travel club of St. Patrick Church. She also served on the building committee of St. Henry High School and was a member of the parent teacher association at St. Henry Grade School and High School.

Survivors include sons, John R. Metzger Jr. of Fort Mitchell, Michael G. Metzger of Erlanger and Steve T. Metzger of Taylor Mill; daughters, Mary Anne Memering of Taylor Mill and Jackie M. Neidig of Florence; a brother, Ralph Bohmer Jr. of Covington; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center, 5440 Moeller Ave., Norwood, Ohio 45212.

Thomas Adrian Palmer, 51, of Pontiac, Mich., formerly of Harrison County, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich. He was a gemologist and chief executive officer of AFAB Inc. in Pontiac. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietname War.

Survivors include a son, Thomas A. Palmer II; daughters, Mona Ortiz and Betsy Palmer, both of Plymouth, Mich.; brothers, Charles E. Palmer of Georgetown and David R. Palmer of Cynthiana; sisters, Mary Ann Slade and Marsha Nichols, both of Cynthiana; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Republican Christian Church, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Republican Cemetery, Cynthiana. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Isabelle M. French Spooner, 90, of Independence, died Tuesday at her residence. She was a retired teacher for Northville Schools, Northville, Mich., and was a member of National Retired Teachers Association. Her husband, Leslie Spooner, died in 1945.

Survivors include a daughter, Larita Spooner Penn of Independence; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

William Ellis Dobbs, tuned pianos

William Ellis Dobbs, a retired piano tuner and regulator with Baldwin Piano Co. in Cincinnati, died at 11:19 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. The Dayton resident was 82.

Mr. Dobbs grew up in St. Bernard, Ohio, and went to high school there even after he moved with his family to Covington, where his father got a job with a railroad company.

In 1941, he went into the Army and was stationed in North Africa, Italy and Germany during World War II. He enjoyed doing maintenance work on the airplanes that were flown in North Africa, said his son, Tom Dobbs of Villa Hills.

"He was a radio man on the P-38 Lightnings," Tom Dobbs said. "He loved airplanes."

Mr. Dobbs returned from the war in 1945 and took a job with Baldwin, where he worked until the late 1970s. He wasn't a trained musician, but he enjoyed music, his son said.

"He played piano a little bit. He just had a good ear for music," Tom Dobbs said.

Mr. Dobbs married his wife around 1945, and they had three sons, who were raised in Dayton. Ann Dobbs died in 1990.

Mr. Dobbs devoted himself to his children, particularly when it came to sports. He got them interested in baseball and regularly attended their athletic events.

A member of an Army basketball team, Mr. Dobbs loved sports and followed the Reds religiously. He became an avid Wildcats fan while his grandson attended the University of Kentucky.

Other survivors include sons, James Dobbs of Dayton and William Dobbs Jr. of Los Angeles; a brother, Chester Dobbs of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Ruby Rhodes of Cambridge, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Ruthe E. Ashcraft, 75, of Union, died at 10:08 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Chelce Ashcraft Jr., died in 1992. A son, Timothy Guy Ashcraft, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Chelce "Skip" C. Ashcraft III of Princeville, Ill.; a daughter, Margie Nyman of Union; and three grandchildren.

Alberta Neace Collins, 71, of Louisville, died at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday at Hospice of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. She was a homemaker and a member of White Dove Regular Baptist Church, Grant County. Her husband, Elbert Collins, died in 1966.

Survivors include a son, Thomas C. Collins of Louisville; brothers, Thomas Neace of Petersburg, Va., and Garrett Neace of Franklin, Ohio; and sisters, Vicie Ellen Hoskins of California, Ky., Sally Belle Collins of Williamstown, Canzallia Collins of Fairdale, Grace Wilson and Freda Wallace, both of Petersburg, Va.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Collins Family Cemetery, Chavies.

Albert T. Findley, 70, of Newport, died Tuesday at his home. He was a retired steel worker with Interlake Steel, Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Findley; sons, Tom Findley of Covington and Steve Findley of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Rhonda Deaton of Falmouth; a sister, Alice Iles of Crescent Springs; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

James H. Ford, 57, of Crittenden, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Flannery Ford; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Carman of Louisville; his mother, Elizabeth Cox Ford of Stanton; and two grandchildren.

Phillip R. Liles Sr., 86, of Newport, died Tuesday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a machinist with General Electric, Cincinnati, a member of Wilder VFW Post No. 8020 and a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
