Melvin R. Zeigler, 77, of Burlington, died Aug. 11 at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired business administrator with the Schuylkill, Pa., school system. A daughter, Rebecca Menet, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Dubson Zeigler; a daughter, Susan Troutt of Burlington; and a sister, Betty Hostetter of Camp Hills, Pa.

Services were Friday in Anneville, Pa. Cremation was at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to the St. Elizabeth Dialysis Center, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, handled arrangements.

George Raybourne, VFW vice commander

George J. Raybourne of Walton earned a Purple Heart in World War II, worked hard to support his family, attended church, helped others and loved sports.

Mr. Raybourne died Monday evening at Grant Manor nursing home in Williamstown. He was 73.

Mr. Raybourne grew up in Ludlow. He worked about 17 years at K-D Lamp Co. in Cincinnati before retiring in 1972 as a shipper and packer.

Mr. Raybourne, an Army veteran, was a charter member of a World War II memorial being constructed in Washington , D.C. and participated in many parades and funerals for other veterans from Pohlmann-Linnemann VFW Post No. 1484 in Park Hills. He also was a member of Johnson McElroy American Legion Post No. 277 in Walton, which is arranging a military ceremony he requested.

"He was very patriotic," said Rosemary Burk Raybourne, his wife of 47 years. "He flew the flag just about every day."

Mr. Raybourne was a senior vice commander of the Fleet Webster VFW Post No. 6235, Walton, and supported the Disabled American Veterans and Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Mr. Raybourne also was a member of All Saints Church in Walton and helped with its softball leagues and the local American Legion softball team.

He and his wife coached several Boone County Knothole League baseball teams. He was also an avid Walton Verona High School basketball fan. His four children and two of his grandchildren played basketball there.

Besides his wife, survivors include sons, George J. Raybourne Jr. of Union and Richard D. Raybourne of Independence; daughters, Patricia A. Foley of Crittenden and Dianne Gammon of Taylor Mill; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at All Saints Church in Walton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Walton. Burial will be in Floral Hills Veterans Cemetery in Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203; Johnson McElroy American Legion Post No. 277, Jones Road, Walton, Ky. 41094; or Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Jean A. White Eckert, 78, of Newport, died Monday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a retired file clerk with R. L. Polk Co. and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Newport. Her husband, Edward Eckert Sr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Edward Eckert Jr. of Mason, Ohio, Douglas Eckert and Kent Eckert, both of Newport; a daughter, Peggy Eckert of Southgate; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Stan Strauss Student Aid Memorial Fund, in care of St. John United Church of Christ, Park Avenue and Nelson Place, Newport, Ky. 41071.

James Charles Grubbs, 77, of Dry Ridge, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at his residence.

Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

Ruby Hudson, 89, of Covington, died at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Rosedale Manor, Latonia. She was a cafeteria worker in the old Coppin's Building, and a member of Senior Citizens of Covington and American Association of Retired Persons. Her husband, James Hudson, died in 1988. A son, Thomas Wolfe, died in 1991.

Survivors include sons, Albert Hudson, Thomas Hudson and Robert Hudson, all of Fort Myers, Fla., George Hudson of Waverly, Minn., and James Hudson of Glendale; daughters, Mary Goecke of Walton and Juanita Neilson of Fort Myers; 42 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rosedale Manor. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Gardnersville Cemetery, Crittenden. Memorials are suggested to Rosedale Manor, 4250 Glenn Ave., Covington, Ky. 41015. Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Harold Lee "Pine Knot" Kinman, 74, of Frankfort, formerly of Williamstown, died at 9:20 p.m. Monday at Central Baptist Hospital, Frankfort. He was a Kentucky state trooper, retiring as a lieutenant after 45 years of service, and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Williamstown Baptist Church and Grant Masonic Lodge No. 85 in Grant County.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Kinman; sons, Benjy Kinman of Frankfort and Barney Kinman of Lexington; daughters, Leanna Kinman of Frankfort and Karen Kinman of Lexington; a brother, Jesse Kinman of Frankfort; a sister, Emma Lou Ryan of Taylor Mill; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home, Frankfort. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Burial, with a Kentucky State Police Honor Guard, will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort. Memorials are suggested to Trooper Island, Kentucky State Police Headquarters, 919 Versailles Road, Frankfort, Ky. 40601; or First United Methodist Church, 211 Washington St., Frankfort, Ky. 40601.

Ella May Mastin, 85, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. She was a member of Central Christian Church, Cynthiana.

Survivors include brothers, Robert W. Mastin of Cynthiana and Earl Mastin of Harrison County.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Salem Church of Christ Cemetery, Harrison County.

Mary Joyce Niederlehner, 57, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Sunday at Hospice of Cincinnati. She was an accounting clerk with A. M. Kinney Co., Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Louis Niederlehner; brothers, Lawrence Morris of Harrodsburg, Aubrey Morris, Garnett Morris and Ralph Morris, all of Salvisa, James R. Morris of Florence, Carroll Morris of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Wayne Morris of Heidelburg, Germany; and sisters, Irene Crum of Louisville and Shelby Morris of Crestview Hills.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Erlanger Baptist Church. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati. Dorothy Lawson, kindergarten teacher

While Dorothy Lawson was out dining or shopping, many people would approach her and introduce themselves.

"They would say, "Mrs. Lawson, you were my kindergarten teacher,' " said her husband, Norman Lawson. "She was well-remembered. She loved kindergarten. She loved children."

Mrs. Lawson, 83, of Fort Thomas, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a retired kindergarten teacher at Ruth Moyer Elementary School in Fort Thomas, where she taught for 21 years.

"She was a superb teacher," Mr. Lawson said.

Mrs. Lawson also was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Thomas. She was the church's first female deacon.

She was a past president of the Arts and Scholarship group of Fort Thomas Women's Club and a past secretary of the Lady Volunteers of Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas.

"She was a very active club woman," Mr. Lawson said. "She was a very active person in any kind of charity drive."

Mrs. Lawson and her husband also enjoyed traveling. They traveled to 50 states and more than 30 countries, Mr. Lawson said.

Mrs. Lawson, a great cook, also loved hosting dinners, her husband said.

"She was just a wonderful girl."

Other survivors include her sons, Norman W. Lawson Jr. of Frankfort and Michael S. Lawson of Dayton.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of Fort Thomas Generation and Endowment Fund, 220 S. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Douglas L. Buckler, 72, of Burlington, died at 9:01 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired manager with Delta Air Lines and a member of the Delta Air Lines Retired Employees group.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Hicks Buckler; sons, Terry L. Buckler of Hebron, Jerry Buckler of Union and Mike Buckler of Florence; daughters, Sherry Buckler of Erlanger, Carol Buckler of Burlington and Jana Smith of Walton; his mother, Irene Buckler of Florence; brothers, Russell Buckler of Orlando and Orville Buckler of Petersburg; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Audrey Carty, 64, of Covington, died at 12:03 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a receptionist at the hospital.

Survivors include a son, Ronald R. Eubanks of Bromley; daughters, Melonie Faller of Covington and Laura Hamby of Independence; and a brother, Herman Faulconer Jr. of Erlanger; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation began there at 11 a.m. today. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
