Anna L. Wuest, 93, of Ludlow, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a retired sock liner with Dr. Scholl Shoe Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Ludlow Christian Church. Her husband, Ervin Wuest, died in 1974. A daughter, Margery Willman, died in 1994.

Survivors include daughters, Jeanette Wuest of Ludlow and Evelyn Martin of Florence; a brother, Raymond Waite of Ludlow; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Ludlow Christian Church, 51 Elm St., Ludlow, Ky. 41016.

Garey Beckett, deputy sheriff and DARE officer in Maysville

Garey Alan Beckett used his life to help just about everyone he could in Mason County.

He was a deputy sheriff in Maysville for 14 years and spent the past 11 years as the Drug Abuse Resistance Education officer, becoming a fixture at Mason County Schools.

"The DARE kids really liked him. Every time he went into a store, they shouted, "There goes the DARE officer.' They really idolized him," said a sister-in-law, Coletta Hamilton of Maysville.

Mr. Beckett also worked at local radio stations WAGX and WFTM to provide community service programming. Mr. Beckett helped many charitable organizations by discussing their programs on radio, Ms. Hamilton said.

"He was always willing to take time to help people in the community. People felt they could call him at home or whatever," Ms. Hamilton said.

Mr. Beckett, 47, died Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville, after an extended illness.

He and his wife, Connie Brell Beckett, were married for more than 20 years.

Other survivors include a daughter, Shannon Beckett, at home; sons, Christopher Beckett, at home, and Andrew Allen Beckett of Highland Heights; and his mother, Evelyn Beckett of Maysville.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville. Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, is handling arrangements.

Dora May Wilson Bryant, 74, of Walton, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Indian Creek United Baptist Church, Whitley City. Her husband, Jimmy Lonzo Bryant, died in 1996.

Survivors include daughters, Dorothy King of Independence, Wanda Faye Carter of Moores Hill, Ind., Linda Sue Tapp of Walton and Barbara Kay Davidson of Norwood, Ohio; sons, Coy Lee Bryant of Newport and Richard Gene Bryant of Walton; a brother, William Wilson of Withamsville, Ohio; a sister, Orangie Schoone of Cincinnati; a step-brother, Larry Casper ; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at McCreary County Funeral Home, Whitley City. Burial was in Higgenbotham Cemetery, Whitley City. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Chester Roosevelt Burton, 95, of Florence, died Sept. 25 at Florence Park Care Center, Burlington. He was a retired cell installation technician with Stewart Iron Works.

Survivors include a grandson, Greg Bancroft of Tampa Bay, Fla.

No services are planned. Burial was in Hebron Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested to Hickory Grove Baptist Church Organ Fund, 11969 Taylor Mill Road, Independence, Ky. 41051. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, is handling arrangements.

Sonja Dee Cardenas, 32, of Bedford, Texas , formerly of Florence, died Tuesday at her home.

Louise Webster Conrad, 75, of Dry Ridge, died at 3:50 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Jonesville.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur Franklin Conrad; a daughter, Margaret Jones of Falmouth; sons, Larry Conrad of La Mirada, Calif., Garry Conrad, Ernie Conrad and Bill Conrad, all of Dry Ridge; a brother, Walter Webster of Williamstown; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Jonesville. Memorials are suggested to charity.

Regina E. Darpel, 96, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia and Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Her husband, John Darpel Sr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, James Darpel of Latonia and Dr. John Darpel Jr. of Edgewood; daughters, Dorothy Dietz, Rosemary Sweeney, Joan Haas and Dolores Ehlman, all of Edgewood; 31 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church. Visitation will begin there at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Redwood Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Hazel Adamson Doyle, 87, of Mays Lick, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday at Robertson County Health Care Center, Mount Olivet. She was a member of Formans Chapel United Methodist Church and Sardis-Formans Chapel United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Doyle; sons, W. T. "Wick" Doyle of Sardis, Jackie Doyle Jr., Herbert Doyle, Millard Doyle, Otis Doyle and Jerry Doyle, all of Mays Lick, and Donald Doyle of Germantown; a brother, Jesse Glenn Adamson of Robertson County; a sister, Lena Cooper of Maysville; 24 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Mays Lick. James Little, 81, of Melbourne, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired engineer with B&O Railroad and an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Luther Jett, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Little; sons, James Little of Latonia and John Little Jr. of Ryland Heights; daughters, Joyce Jones and Mary Penick, both of Wilder; 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Velva Bosse Nesbitt, 84, of Brooksville, died Monday at her daughter's home in Georgetown. She was a homemaker and a member of Powersville Baptist Church. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Union, the Powersville Cemetery Board and Bracken County Homemakers. Her husband, Broadus E. Nesbitt, died in 1982.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Mingua of Germantown; a son, Edgar Nesbitt of Powersville; and three grandchildren.

Will E. Phillips, 82, of Fort Wright, died at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 23 at his home. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service worker in Cincinnati and a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Lewis Phillips; a son, John Phillips of Ludlow; a sister, Inez Daley of Ambler, Pa.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Gerald Wayne Rust, 57, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Erlanger, died Monday at his home. He was an accountant for Liberty Health Care and a member of First Baptist Church, both in Naples.

Survivors include a son, James William Rust II of Stockbridge, Ga.; his mother, DeEtta Rust of Erlanger; and a sister, Donna Leinart of Indianapolis.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes. Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069.

John C. Sutton, 51, of Covington, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in Herndon. He was a roofer with Tom Back Roofing Co., Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Diana Sutton; a son, John C. Sutton Jr. of Covington; daughters, Angela Sutton and Tera Sutton, both of Hopkinsville, and Susan Sutton and Sonja Sutton, both of Blackie; a brother, Tony Sutton of Hopkinsville; sisters, Geraldine Tillman Hopkinsville, Glenda Murphy and Sandy Dawson, both of Herndon, Juanita Morse of Sebree, Brenda Sweeney of Prinston and Henrietta Williams of Oak Grove; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Southside Baptist Church, Covington. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington. Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Charlotte Zeh, 82, of Crestview, died Wednesday at Eastgate Health Care Center, Cincinnati. She was a grocery store clerk.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Lipscomb of Crestview; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Brent Miller, family man, known as a peacemaker

Brent Miller Jr. worked his way up from messenger boy to assistant to the superintendent for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad.

During his 44-year career with the company, Mr. Miller helped the railroad solve many complaints from its workers, said his wife of 59 years, Eleanora Lawler Miller.

"He was a peacemaker. He was excellent at his job," Mrs. Miller said.

"He was so good at everything. I can't say anything bad about him."

Mr. Miller, 81, of Erlanger, died at 11:10 a.m. Thursday at Florence Park Care Center.

He was a member of the Fort Mitchell Baptist Church and of the Covington/Kenton Lions Club.

Mr. Miller began his career with the railroad at the age of 16 in Virginia. He was transferred to the Covington office of Chesapeake & Ohio in 1953 and spent the rest of his life in Northern Kentucky.

He was a dedicated family man who sang in his church choir, worked for charities and played the guitar in his spare time, Mrs. Miller said.

"We have lived in the same house for 45 years," she said. "He was an excellent father and husband."

Other survivors include sons, Richard B. Miller and Wayne B. Miller, both of Prospect; a daughter, Barbara Chatham of Georgetown; sisters, Marjorie Nichols of Covington, Va., Jean Proffitt of Pearisburg, Va., and Marilyn Woods of Clifton Forge, Va.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to the Book of Remembrance at Fort Mitchell Baptist Church, 2323 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017, or to the Covington/Kenton Lions Club, P.O. Box 562, Covington, Ky. 41012.
