Owenton's Gilbert J. Risch owned construction firm

Gilbert J. Risch believed in an honest day's work for an honest day's pay.

Mr. Risch, 65, the retired owner of Risch Construction Co. in Erlanger, expected the best from himself and asked that others do the same.

And he believed just as strongly in the Bible's teachings.

"He dearly loved the Bible. He read it from beginning to end," said his wife of 45 years, Janet Risch.

Mr. Risch, of Owenton, died at 2:38 p.m. Thursday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton.

After returning from Army service in the Korean War, he ran his construction company from the late 1950s through the late 1970s. He built schools, banks, houses and apartment buildings all over Northern Kentucky.

Mr. Risch was born in Indiana but spent most of his life in Northern Kentucky. He and his wife were childhood friends.

"I knew him from the time I was 6 and he was 11," according to Mrs. Risch.

"He was always the same guy. He was vibrant. He loved sports and he loved bow hunting."

"He put a laugh on my face. He said he loved me," Mrs. Risch said. "He was a good man."

Other survivors include a son, David Risch of Owenton; daughters, Kathie Elswick and Theresa Risch, both of Latonia, and Patty Tolliver of Elsmere; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Risch Family Cemetery, Owenton.
