John R. McCarthy, 73, of Latonia, died at 8:18 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired Covington firefighter and a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 203 in Latonia, the Sunday Morning Club and Kenton County Democratic Club. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, Kate McCarthy, died in 1995.

Louis H. Perpingon, 91, of Williamstown, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired employee of Cincinnati Gas & Electric Co. and a member of Southern Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 17, both in Hamilton, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Mildred Perpingon; and several nieces and nephews.

Doris Jean Schuster, 68, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert G. Schuster, died in 1996.

Rosemary Sketch, opened heart to all
Rosemary F. Sketch believed everyone had a responsibility to serve the community. It was a lesson she taught by example, from working in school and church programs to caring for elderly neighbors to working at the polls every Election Day.
Mrs. Sketch, 80, a longtime Ludlow resident, died at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles Care Center in Ft. Wright.
She was born in Covington and worked for years at the Kenton County Courthouse. She married Edgar Sketch at age 32, and they had seven children.
"She was a very hard worker and very strong-willed," said her daughter, Mary Lenihan of Villa Hills. "She had to be, with seven kids there was a lot to do, and still be involved in so much."
She was was a past officer of the Sts. Boniface and James Church Altar Society, Ludlow, and charter member of the Lay School Board of Covington Catholic High School, and a past secretary of Covington Catholic Boosters.
Mrs. Sketch managed the cafeteria at Covington Catholic High School for many years. She was a past secretary of the Ludlow-Bromley Swim Club and a member of Mother of God Church, where she was secretary of the church Altar Society.
"She taught us the importance of service to the community and the family and the church," said Mrs. Lenihan.
When elderly neighbors who had no children became ill, Mrs. Sketch became their surrogate daughter, doing their laundry, and becoming a faithful visitor when they moved to a nursing home.
She also knew how to have fun. Mrs. Sketch was a sports fan who took up golf in her late 50s and was active in several leagues. Mrs. Sketch was a fan of baseball and football and followed professional, college and high school games.
"She knew how to make people feel comfortable," said daughter Carolyn Basford of Villa Hills.
"Whenever we brought our friends to the house, they felt at home. She would make a big pot of vegetable soup and bake homemade apple pies."
She was diagnosed with cancer about a year and a half ago. She had been in St. Charles for six months.
Mrs. Sketch also leaves sons, James Sketch of Cincinnati, Michael Sketch of Villa Hills and Gregory Sketch of Crescent Springs; daughters, Teresa Bretl of Seattle and Barbara Vaught of Burlington; a sister, Bertha Fritz of Covington; 19 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Her husband, Edgar Sketch, died in 1992.

Lewis Harry Golatzki, 82, of Glencoe, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington, after an extended illness. He was a retired welder with Cincinnati Ventilating Co., and a member of Central Nazarene Church in Fort Wright and the Civil Air Control of Northern Kentucky. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. A son, Michael Golatzki, and a daughter, Dixie Taylor, both preceded him in death.
Survivors include daughters, Tracy Gordy of Glencoe, Dianne Golatzki of Fort Mitchell and Susan Bell of Greenville, S.C.; sons, Thomas Golatzki of Union, Robert Golatzki of Alexandria and Scott Golatzki of Erlanger; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles M. Hedges, 87, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired member of Teamsters Local 651, Lexington, and a member of Beaver Baptist Church, Harrison County. His wife, Frances M. Hedges, preced ed him in death.

Dr. John N. King, 76, of Park Hills, died at 9:20 p.m. Wednes day at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a chiropractor, a member of the international and Kentucky chiropractic associations, and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Mabel Hunter Miles, 83, of Carrollton, died Tuesday in Saltillo, Miss. She was a homemaker and a farmer.

Alma E. "Betty" Rouse Sample, 83, of Georgetown, died Wednesday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthiana. She was a retired teacher, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Spendletop Hall Faculty Alumni Club. Her husband, Edward J. Sample, preceded her in death.

F. Edward Sharp, 63, of Wilder, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a regional marketing director with Evergreen America Corp., Fort Mitchell, and an Army veteran.

Known as "Annie B,' she aided children
Anna M. Daniel Brockman learned about loving children early in her life and shared that love for decades.
Orphaned at 11, Mrs. Brockman was taken in by an aunt and uncle who did volunteer work at St. Henry Church in Elsmere.
"I suppose that had a lot to do with it," her husband, George E. "Bus" Brockman, said. "She must have had it in her from the time she was a child."
Mrs. Brockman, 71, of Erlanger, died at 6:02 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a retired collection agent for McAlpin's, Cincinnati.
Affectionately known as "Annie B," she was an "adopted grandmother" for many children and was involved in many service projects promoting the welfare of children in Northern Kentucky.
Her most recent project was "Read to Me, Love Me" which collected dolls and books for poor children. She had collected more than 200 stuffed animals to distribute this Christmas.
Born in Cleves, Ohio, she moved to Erlanger as a child.
Other survivors include sons, Stephen E. Brockman and Wm. D. Brockman, both of Burlington; daughters, Mary Ann Groeschen of Cold Spring and Janet Eisenmenger of Burlington; and nine grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Entombment will be in Floral Hill Cemetery
