Lisa Geralyn Parker Deters, loving mom, athlete and friend
Though her life ended at age 33, Lisa Geralyn Parker Deters told her family at the end, ". . . I'm lucky."
"My wife lived for her family. She was a wonderful mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend. In her struggle with cancer she was an inspiration to so many with her dignity, love and courage," said her husband, Eric Deters.
Mrs. Deters of Independence died early Sunday in Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. The mother of three children, ages nine, eight and six, she had battled cancer for a year.
Deters, a former Kenton County Republican Party chairman, said his wife always supported his endeavors, as well as those of other family members.
Deters said he would remember his wife as a loving and active person. A 1983 graduate of Simon Kenton High School, Mrs. Deters ran on the cross country team and was the centerfielder on the 1983 Ninth Region Championship softball team.
"My wife was an excellent softball player, runner and aerobatics instructor. She was full of life and vitality, and it made it so difficult to watch her suffer from a disease which disallowed those activities in her life. However, she was still able to direct her energy and love to me, her children and her faith," Deters said.
"Like all children should feel, her children believe they had the best mother in the whole world. She took them everywhere. She also always watched everyone else's children. She was "Aunt Lisa' to a lot of kids," he continued.
"Lisa would want everyone to place God in the forefront of their lives. Her strong faith, peace and acceptance reflected her belief," said her husband.
