Helen Storer's life was filled by long marriage, family, job

Raising eight children is an all-day job.

But Helen Virginia Sidney Storer didn't work on a 24-hour clock. In addition to being a mother of eight, she spent 26 years as a riveter with McGregor-Brunswick Co., where she assembled sporting goods equipment, like shoulder pads and baseball gloves.

"She liked to crochet, but really, she didn't have a lot of time for hobbies, raising eight children," said a daughter, Jean Osburg of Woodlawn.

Mrs. Storer, a former resident of Hathaway Court Senior Citizens Apartments in Covington, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was 78.

Taylor Mill's Matt H. Lovett, veteran

Prayer and fate played large roles in the life of Matt Howard Lovett.

Mr. Lovett, 78, of Taylor Mill, died Friday night in St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

A native of the Williamsburg area, Mr. Lovett joined the Army before World War II. In 1944, he was in the Battle of the Bulge and was listed as missing in action for 85 days, said his wife, Jackie.

'His father was a Baptist preacher. I went to a church service in Williamsburg, and he had gotten a telegram that day saying that his son was missing. He asked everyone in church to pray for him,' Mrs. Lovett said.

She knew Mr. Lovett's parents, but did not know him at that time, Mrs. Lovett said. Like others in the congregation, she prayed for the soldier and he was later accounted for, she said.

After the war, Mr. Lovett went to work with Burger Brewery in Cincinnati. Mrs. Lovett was also in Cincinnati visiting a friend, and though they were from the same area in Southern Kentucky, she met her future husband for the first time. It was a matter of fate, Mrs. Lovett believes. They were married for 53 years.

Mr. Lovett also worked for the Bavarian Brewery in Covington and drove a truck for a number of years for the Duro Bag Co. In retirement, he drove cars for the Hertz Rental Co. until he was disabled by a stroke, his wife said.

Mr. Lovett was a member of the TeamstersUnion and Masonic Lodge No. 746 F&AM. He belonged to a gun club in Crittenden, Mrs. Lovett said.

Other survivors include a son, Ronald L. Lovett of Beavercreek, Ohio; daughters, Carolyn Ruth Holmes of Melbourne and Debra Sue Hammons of Erlanger; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Rosedale Manor, 4250 Glenn Ave., Latonia, Ky. 41015.
