James E. Ratcliff, 82, of Norwood, Ohio, formerly of Erlanger, died at 12:05 a.m. Monday at his home. He was a truck driver with City Haul Co., Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Evalee Anderson Ratcliff; and a brother, George Ratcliff Sr. of Erlanger.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

George Seals, 58, of Covington, died at 8 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

There are no immediate survivors.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. C&C Mortuary, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Cecilia Simpson, 85, of Edgewood, died at 2:34 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Albert W. 'Pete' Simpson, died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Mark Simpson of Marietta, Ga.; daughters, Deb Scheper of Edgewood and Barbara Rabe of Independence; a sister, Charlotte Marksberry of Florence; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Entombment will be in St. Mary Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the Point, 401 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Vivian Winkle, 79, of Covington, died Monday at Florence Park Care Center.

John "Ed' Lange, councilman in Lakeside Park for six years

John E. 'Ed' Lange Jr., a devoted family man and former Lakeside Park city councilman, died Monday at his home in Lakeside Park. He was 83.

He became involved in city politics in the 1950s, serving as a councilman for about six years, said his son, John E. 'Jay' Lange II of Lakeside Park.

'There were some problems in the city with growth - sewers, mainly - and they were starting to develop Lakeside Park more. He got involved in controlling the growth,' Jay Lange said.

A lifelong retail employee, Mr. Lange took a job with H&S Pogue Co.in Cincinnati in the early 1960s. He retired after 25 years as a retail executive.

He was born and reared in Fort Mitchell and graduated from Beechwood High School. He moved to Lakeside Park shortly after he returned from serving in the Air Force during World War II and lived there ever since.

He and his wife of 52 years, Marjorie, married in 1943 and had five children. Mrs. Lange died in 1995.

Mr. Lange had a passion for his family; he loved spending time with his children and 18 grand-children, Jay Lange said. He also enjoyed golf.

'He was just a kind, gentle, classy person,' Jay Lange said. 'He was always a gentleman, and always very considerate of others. He just lived, really, for his family.'

Other survivors include sons, Gilbert T. Lange of Independence and Douglas B. Lange of Fort Mitchell; daughters, Marjorie A. Izzo of Indianapolis and Susan L. Warning of Fort Wright; sisters, Margaret Moss of Edgewood and Geraldine Willman of Taylor Mill; brothers, Ferd Lange of Fort Mitchell and Robert Lange of Park Hills; and 18 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Notre Dame Academy, 1699 Hilton Drive, Park Hills, Ky. 41011; or St. Xavier High School, 600 North Bend Road, Cincinnati, Ohio, 45224.

Sam Eversole Jr., 57, of Carrollton, died Monday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. He was a farmer.

Survivors include sisters, June Carter and Irene Mertz, both of Carrollton, and Mae Richie of LaGrange; and a brother, Richard Eversole of Carrollton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery.

Howard Fagin, 76, of Park Hills, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at his residence.

Dennis Foltz, 41, of Mount Zion, died at 1:01 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. Arrangements are pending at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden.

Dr. Carl Kumpe, 86, of Fort Mitchell, died at 6:23 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia.

Jewell Pittman Murphy, 79, of Warsaw, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, after an extended illness. She was a homemaker and a member of Church of Christ, Harrodsburg. Her first husband, Jack Pittman, died in 1976. Her second husband, George Murphy, died in 1988.

Survivors include daughters, Peggy Howell of Williamstown, Jacqueline Mylor, Pam Mylor, Tracy Miles and Roxann Booth, all of Warsaw; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Gallatin County Athletic Boosters Club, 605 E. Main St., Warsaw, Ky. 40195; or to charity.

Raymond George Rechtin, 81, of Fort Thomas, died at 10 p.m. Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport. He was a retired employee of Littleford Bros. Co., Cincinnati, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Krieg Rechtin; daughters, Mary Carol Boyd of Cincinnati, Barbara J. Toebbe of Covington, Cathy S. Hugenberg of Edgewood and Nancy E. Datko of Dayton, Ohio; sons, Raymond George Rechtin II of Burlington and David J. Rechtin of Fort Wright; sisters, Gertrude Glassmeyer of Covington and Betty Kinney of Villa Hills; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1803 N. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075; or Baptist Convalescent Center, 120 Main St., Newport, Ky. 41071. Vivian A. Dameron Winkle, 79, of Covington, died at 4:10 p.m. Monday at Florence Park Care Center, Burlington. She attended Fort Thomas Christian Church, where she was a president of the Young at Hearts Senior Citizens Club, and was a member of the Belles and Beaus Senior Citizens Club. Her husband, Ernest Winkle, died in 1963.

Survivors include a son, Dr. David Winkle of Lexington; a daughter, Deborah Cope of Edgewood; a sister, Betty Thompson of Florida; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were this morning at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Burial was in Camp Nelson Cemetery, Nicholasville. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Albert Thomas Zagorski, 45, of Independence, died Monday in Covington. Arrangements are pending at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere.

Dennis "D.A.' Foltz, 41, liked to fix cars and drag-race them

Dennis 'D.A.' Foltz spent most of his free time tinkering with car engines and drag-racing his 1967 Chevelle.

'He loved cars, motors - anything to do with a motor,' said his wife, Judy Foltz.

'His garage was his home. Anything he could use a tool on, he loved.'

Mr. Foltz, a truck driver who lived his entire life in Crittenden, died of a heart attack at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was 41.

He went to school at Grant County High School and married in 1980. He and Judy had two children.

After high school, Mr. Foltz worked for a barrel-making company in Cincinnati and then served as an escort driver for S&H Construction in Walton.

He went to work for a friend who owned a couple of trucks before buying his own truck and becoming self-employed. He called his business Dennis Foltz Trucking Co. in Crittenden and hauled for Barrett Paving Materials Inc. and Jimmy Evans Blacktopping.

Mr. Foltz's lifelong hobby was drag-racing. He often raced his Chevelle at Thornhill drag strip in Kenton County. He also owned a 1969 Camaro.

He adored his two children, ages 15 and 3, and his two cats and dog.

'He was one of a kind,' Mrs. Foltz said. 'He didn't know a stranger...and he didn't put on for anybody.'

Other survivors include daughters, Mandy and Megan Foltz; his mother, Mary Collingsworth of Florence; brothers, Lawrence Foltz of Florence and Richard Foltz of Crittenden; and a sister, Donna Humbert of Crittenden.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Crittenden Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Charles Smiley Dennis, 72, of Scenic View, Ohio, formerly of Harrison County, died Wednesday at Castle Nursing Home in Scenic View. He was a retired teacher with Jefferson County Schools, a member of the Sierra Club and an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include brothers, Clarence Dennis of Park Hills, Richard Dennis of Harrison County and Samuel Dennis of Cynthiana; and a sister, Mrs. Joe B. Hall of Lexington.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Whaley-McCarty Funeral home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Memorials are suggested to Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library, Main St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Howard B. Fagin, 76, of Park Hills, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at his home. He was the retired owner of the former National Awning & Builders Supply Co. His wife, Jane Fagin, died in 1996.

Survivors include a son, Matthew Howard Fagin of Raeford, N.C.; a daughter, Jean Ann Fagin of Park Hills; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Redwood School and Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017; or Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.
