Marguarite Robinson, 78, of Newport, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington.

George W. Rogers, 77, of Independence, died at 4:16 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

He was a retired salesman for Melvin Supply Company and a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church, Independence. His wife, Betty Jane Rogers, died in 1995.

Survivors include sons, George W. Rogers Jr. and Kenneth L. Rogers, both of Alexandria, and Barry J. Hampton of Burlington; a daughter, Joy L. Hampton of Taylor Mill; a sister, Martha Sauter of Cincinnati; a brother, Thomas Rogers of Latonia; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to Faith Community United Methodist Church, 3410 Richardson Road, Independence, Ky., 41051.

Velma M. Simmons, 79, of Owenton, formerly of Worthville, died Sunday at Owenton Manor Health Care Center in Owenton.

She formerly was a clerk for Lerman Brothers Department Store in Carrollton. She also was a bookkeeper for East End Lumber Co. and Grobmyer Coal and Lumber Co. And she formerly owned and operated Simmons Grocery in Worthville. She was a member of Worthville Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for 35 years. She also was a member of the Worthville Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, Robert Paul Simmons, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Donna Hassan of Florence, Barbara Boswell of Carrollton and Anita Wainscott of Wheatley; a sister, Louise Spillman of Carrollton; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in I. O. O. F. Cemetery, Carrollton.

Engineer Fred E. Taylor, spent life on water

Fred E. Taylor dreamed of a life on the river or the high seas while growing up in Newport.

He got his wish at the age of 14 when he found work aboard the Island Queen and Delta Queen on the Ohio River.

Eventually, Mr. Taylor's work as a marine engineer took him to China, Japan and other Pacific Ocean destinations.

'He was rough and ready, as most rivermen are,' said an older brother, George Taylor of California, Ky.

Fred Taylor, 77, of Port Arthur, Texas , formerly of Newport, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday at Hospice of Port Arthur.

He was preceded in death by his sons, George Taylor and Charles Taylor.

His brother said Mr. Taylor would listen to radio reports on shipping and traveling. 'He was very outspoken. He had a good sense of humor,' George Taylor said.

Other survivors include sons, Fred E. Taylor of Pennsylvania , Morris Taylor of Daytona, Fla., Patrick Taylor of Fort Thomas and Harry Taylor of Newport; daughters, Harriett Dawson of Georgetown, Lily Johnson of Daytona, Irene Fulmer and Lorraine Taylor, of Newport; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be today at the convenience of the family. Memorials: to charity of donor's choice. Clayton-Thompson Funeral Home, Groves, Texas , is handling arrangements.

Odell Baker, 71, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. He was a driver with Mead Corp., Cincinnati, and a member of First Baptist Church of Cold Spring and Newport Masonic Lodge No. 358. He also was an Army veteran of World War II. His wives, Georgia Baker and Juanita Baker, both preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Hill of Park Hills, Pam Rafus of California and Linda Traylor of Fort Thomas; a stepson, Jeff Smith of Fort Thomas; a brother, Pearl Baker of Silver Grove; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Willanna Clark, 82, of Ludlow, died Monday in Jones, Okla. A son, John Allen Gooch, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Robert Gooch of Erlanger; a daughter, Myrna Pelham of Spencer, Okla.; a sister, Norma Clark of Jones, Okla.; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held today at Paylor Funeral Home Chapel, Midwest City, Okla. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Quality Care, 107 South Sooner Road, Del City, Okla. 73115.

Vivian T. Condron, 91, of Fort Thomas, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Fort Thomas and St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary, and a volunteer with the American Red Cross. Her husband, Thomas W. Condron, died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Thomas W. Condron Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; sisters, Mildred Brown of Pittsburg, Kan., Wilma Hinkle and Dorothy Langerot, both of Antioch, Calif.; a brother, Ray Waggoner of Antioch, Calif.; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Kansas. Memorials are suggested to Volunteers of America, 1063 Central Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45202; or Presiding Bishops Fund, Honduran Relief, 815 Second St., New York, N.Y. 10017.

Betty V. Dooley, 66, of Dayton, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.

Brian Eggleston, 32, of Covington, died at 1:50 p.m. Sunday at Jellico Hospital, Jellico, Tenn. He was an employee of Gunnite Industries in Ohio.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Elizabeth Eggleston of Covington; brothers, Robert Eggleston and Larry Eggleston, both of Erlanger, Michael Eggleston of Taylor Mill and Roger Eggleston of Glencoe; and sisters, Marjorie Reeves of Taylor Mill, Lillie Rickels of Kempner, Texas , Patti Ensminger of Taylor Mill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Mary Grober, 72, of Edgewood, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. She was a retired teacher with Covington Public Schools.

Survivors include sons, Dr. Robert Grober of Edgewood and Steve Grober of Fort Mitchell; and four grandchildren.

Services were at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Pike Street Medical Clinic, in care of Dr. M. A. Barnes, Family Practice Center, 413 S. Loop Road, Edgewood, Ky. 41017. Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Rev. Edgar Gullett, 72, of Covington, died at 2:40 a.m. Monday at his residence. He was pastor of Apostolic Lighthouse Church in Latonia, where he was a charter member. He was a retired front end automobile mechanic for Sears and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a former Covington auxiliary police officer and chaplain and served as the state bishop of the Kentucky Apostolic Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Gullett; a daughter, Loretta Lynn Gullett of Covington; and sisters, Martha Gullett of Guage and Eliza Miller of Knox, Ind.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Apostolic Lighthouse Church, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Eric R. Hodson, 66, of Carmel Valley, Calif., formerly of Park Hills, died Saturday at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, Monterey, Calif. He was an art consultant with Regal Gallery.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Tench Hodson; sons, Raymond Hodson of England and Nigel Hodson of Burlington; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. Struve and LaPorte Funeral Home, Salinas, Calif., is handling arrangements.

William B. LeMaster Sr., 80, of California, died at 2:05 a.m. Dec. 19 at Alois Alzheimer Center, Cincinnati, after an extended illness. He was an employee of Trailmobile, Cincinnati, and was active in the United Auto Workers, serving 30 years as an International Representative collective-bargaining agent and labor- relations specialist. He also served as director of education for UAW Region 2A.

Mr. LeMaster taught labor-relations and collective-bargaining courses at Northern Kentucky University, and was an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Matthew D. LeMaster, died in 1990; a daughter, Renee LeMaster Marion, died in August 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Hart LeMaster; sons, William B. LeMaster Jr. of California, David B. LeMaster of Aniak, Alaska, and Jonathan H. LeMaster of Newport; daughters, Candace LeMaster Sutton of Augusta, Bonnie LeMaster Bridges of Latonia and Lisa LeMaster Wolf of California; a sister, Alma Rust of Ryland Heights; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation was at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Grayce Meinken, 84, of Loma Linda, Calif., formerly of Taylor Mill, died Dec. 3 at her home. She was a retired medical orderly at Loma Linda University Medical Center. She also was a member of Azure Hills Seventh Day Adventist Church in California. Her husband, John Meinken, and a daughter, Norma Robinson, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Carl Wayne Meinken of Covington; a daughter, Anita Ross of Smyrna, Ga.; a brother, Paul Rairden of Hialeah, Fla.; a half-brother, John Richard of Elsmere; nine grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.

Services were held in Loma Linda. Montecito Memorial Chapel, Loma Linda, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Montecito Memorial Park, Loma Linda.

Gerald Lynn Reynolds, 46, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a member of Bellevue Vets and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Dayton.

Survivors include his wife, Herta Rouse Reynolds; sons, Ryan Reynolds of Sun Prairie, Wis., and Sean Reynolds of Salem, Ill.; his mother and stepfather, Sylvia and Jerry Mardis of Crescent Springs; his father and stepmother, Henry and Mary Reynolds of Contralia, Ill.; a brother, Michael Reynolds of Cincinnati; a sister, Vicki Woods of Decatur, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Jerry Reynolds Trust Fund, in care of the family.

Roy W. Spence, 80, of Newport, died Friday at Batavia Nursing Home, Batavia, Ohio. He was a retired carpenter and a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a sister, Wilma June Mayes of Alexandria.

No services are planned. Mr. Spence's body was donated to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

Donald K. Ward, 74, of Cincinnati, formerly of Florence, died Saturday at Columbia Health Care Center in Reading, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Joann Hardwick Ward; and a sister, Patricia Foster of Columbus, Ohio.

Services were this morning at Highland Cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Schmidt-Dhonau Funeral Home, Cincinnati, handled arrangements.
