Margaret Reichle, ran Erlanger Hardware
Margaret Reichle was co-owner of the Erlanger Hardware Store and devoted to her family and church.
Miss Reichle helped operate the hardware store, which is still in business on Dixie Highway, from 1947 to 1972.
'She loved it,' said a sister, June Kohorst Kroger of Lakeside Park.
'She wasn't a painter as an artist, she was a painter of rooms and walls and floors and anything she could swish a paintbrush against.
'She knew all the contractors, and it was the cleanest hardware store that ever was.'
Miss Reichle, 92, died Wednesday morning at St. Charles Care Center in Fort Wright.
Miss Reichle and a sister, Mary, who was two years older, were both born in a toll-gate house operated by their parents at the former Five Mile House off Dixie Highway in Lakeside Park.
Miss Reichle's father died when she was 2. Eventually, she and her sister Mary moved to Erlanger when their mother married Frank Kohorst. Mrs. Kroger is the daughter of that marriage.
Their parents bought the Scheben homestead in Erlanger at the corner of Dixie and Commonwealth Avenue.
The family operated a saloon next to it and a bowling alley that for a time was the only one between Covington and Lexington that had two lanes.
Miss Reichle was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell. There, she participated in the 55-plus Club and St. Mary Ladies Society.
Miss Reichle also was a member of Crescent Springs and Villa Madonna senior citizen groups.
'She was very strong-willed and very determined and put up a gruff front, but she was just a piece of Jell-O on the inside,' said Mrs. Kroger.
'She loved children, but she never married - not because she didn't have chances.
'Our children were her children, and our grandchildren were her grandchildren.'
Miss Reichle's sister, Mary Reichle Douttiel, died in 1985.
In addition to Mrs. Kroger, other survivors include four nieces and nephews, six great- nieces and great-nephews and 18 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
