Howard Beeson, Florence, businessman, musician

Howard T. Beeson of Florence was a businessman who worked to ensure others in the community enjoyed his level of success.

Among Mr. Beeson's ventures were the former Finen and Beeson Insurance Agency in Covington and the former Flavorite Bakery in Park Hills.

Mr. Beeson, 89, died Thursday morning at his residence.

Not content to focus on his own good fortune, Mr. Beeson was charter president of both the Covington and Kenton County Junior Chambers of Commerce.

'He was the most gregarious person you can ever imagine,' said his wife, Ruth Wrenn Beeson. 'He was the greatest man.'

His varied job history included stints as a real estate agent and car salesman.

'He had a bad heart attack in 1955,' said Mrs. Beeson.

'He was in the hospital for seven weeks, and they were sure he was going to die. But the Lord extended his life another 40 years or so.'

When Mr. Beeson opened Flavorite Bakery in a bend of Dixie Highway, it became something of a Park Hills landmark.

'A sign said 'donuts' in huge, big letters,' said Mrs. Beeson. 'Everybody in Northern Kentucky would go in and buy a sack of them.'

Mr. Beeson and his first wife, Elaine Beeson, were charter members of the Heritage Assembly of God Church in Florence.

She died in 1990.

Mr. Beeson met Ruth Beeson at the church, and they married in 1991.

Mr. Beeson had been a violinist with the Indianapolis Symphony and later performed as a soloist for local churches.

He was the owner of Greenlawn Mobile Home Park in Florence, a partner in the former Skyline Chili Restaurant in Florence, and a former president of the Covington Kiwanis Club.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Thomas H. Beeson of Walton; daughters, Nancy L. Coleman of Eustis, Fla., and Linda G. West of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Bernice Metzger of Covington; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
