Laura Belle Antrobus, owned skating rink in Williamstown

Laura Belle Scroggins Antrobus, who once bought a roller rink because of her love for children, died Wednesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown after a long illness. She was 68.

The roller rink was about to close and Mrs. Antrobus believed it was important for children to have someplace to go. So she bought it and named the rink after one of her daughters.

'People remember it, considering there were very few entertainment spots here in Williamstown,' said Helen Simpson, one of Mrs. Antrobus' three sisters.

'We had a drive-in movie theater, the roller rink and maybe a pool hall at the time.'

Mrs. Antrobus and her husband, Joseph, owned Jody's Roller Rink in Williamstown during the 1950s and 1960s. Later, she went to work at Williamstown Head Start as a teacher's aide.

That love of family and children remained evident throughout her entire life, her daugh ters and sisters said. Mrs. Antrobus took the Head Start job in part so she could be near her two daughters who attended classes in the same education building through high school.

'She was always with us,' said Williamstown's Jo Ann 'Jody' Henry, one of the daughters. 'She was a good mom and she liked kids.'

Her husband, Joseph Sayers Antrobus, died in 1991.

She leaves another daughter, Stacie Elkin of Williamstown; sisters, Clarice Willoughby and Mary Hall, both of Dry Ridge, and Helen Simpson of Williamstown; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamston. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamston.

Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Stewartsville Baptist Church Building Fund.
