Larry F. 'Fluff' Gabbard, 57, of Newport, died Thursday at his residence. He was a salesman for Saul's Value Store, Newport, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 2, Newport, and Eagle Aerie FOE of Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Gabbard; son, Larry Gabbard II of Newport; daughters, Christina Farrell and Bonnie Gabbard of Newport; brothers, Tom Gabbard of Covington and Robin Gabbard of Newport; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, with visitation from 5 p.m. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. To help defray funeral expenses, memorials are suggested to Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, 835 York Street, Newport, Ky. 41071.

Dr. John Michael Gibson, 58, of Wadmalaw Island, S.C., died Thursday at Roper Hospital in Charleston, S.C. He was a professor at Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Conway, S.C.

Survivors include his wife, Dr. Mary Morton Gibson; his mother, Reba Mae Webb Gibson of Franklin; a brother, Paul Jacob Gibson of Bowling Green; and a sister, Judy Gibson Cline of Columbus, Ga.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with visitation from noon. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Pendleton County Public Library, 228 Main St., Falmouth, Ky. 41040.

Dorothy T. Meese Grieme, 82, of Edgewood, died Friday at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kenton County Democratic Women's Club, and St. John Church, Covington, where she was a member of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and the Ladies' Society.

Her husband, Ralph B. Grieme, died in 1994. Survivors include a son, Ralph B. Grieme Jr. of Fort Mitchell; daughters, Jacqueline Dunn and Mary Kathleen Halloran of Edgewood; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to charity of choice.

Zelma Foley Houchen, 96, of Falmouth, died Thursday at River Valley Nursing Home in Butler.

She was a retired owner of Houchen's Clothing Store, Falmouth, and a member of Falmouth Christian Church, Pendleton County Homemakers and Falmouth Women's Club.

Her husband, Clark Houchen, died in 1957. Survivors include a son, Carol F. Houchen of Falmouth; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Mary A. Hudak, 85, of Walton, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Her husband, Stephen Hudak, died in 1992. A son, Robert Kenney, died in 1994. Survivors include a son, John Hudak of Walton; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul Church, Florence, and visitation 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Louisville.

Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Lenora F. Malone Jenkins, 85, of Covington, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Latonia. She was a retired sacristan for Mother of God Church, Covington.

Her husband, Vernon Jenkins, died Feb. 26. Survivors include a daughter, Linda F. Merz of Covington; a brother, Robert Malone of Ludlow; sisters, Dorothy Nienaber of Fort Wright and Virginia Durstock of Fort Mitchell; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:05 p.m. Monday at Mother of God Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Garry Rawe, 64, of Crescent Park, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

Newport's George Schwenterley, a hit with youth, Campbell seniors

George S. Schwenterley loved music, and both youngsters and senior citizens were the beneficiaries of that affection.

A retired driver-salesman for beer distributors, Mr. Schwenterley drove a bus for the fiscal court's senior citizen outings.

'He would sing with the senior citizens. We put a microphone in the bus and they would have a sing-along,' said Betty Cottingham, former director of human services for the Campbell County Fiscal Court.

'He was a very outgoing man and the senior citizens loved him,' said Mrs. Cottingham.

Mr. Schwenterley, 78, of Newport, died Saturday morning in St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He worked with the Boy Scout troop at St. Therese Church in Southgate and was a founder of the Golden Knights Junior Drum and Bugle Corps at the church.

'He taught the kids music and did all the arrangements,' said his wife, Shirley Ledermeier Schwenterley.

'We traveled with the corps on their trips, to North Carolina, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin and lots of other places. George would arrange the music, and sometimes he would drive the bus,' said Mrs. Schwenterley. 'Friendships he made among the members of the corps and their families have lasted over the years,' she said.

An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Schwenterley worked for both the Dennert Distributing Co. in Newport, and the Snodgrass Distribution Co. in Bellevue. He retired at 63, and spent the next 15 years driving the senior citizen bus, his wife said.

Mr. Schwenterley was a member of the John R. Little VFW Post No. 3186 in Southgate.

Other survivors include a daughter, Donna Branch of Newport; a son, James W. Schwenterley of Santa Cruz, Calif.; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, followed by prayers. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Martha Lee Bray, 64, of Florence, died Friday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a retired employee of the Frankfort Historical Society, and a member of Frankfort Methodist Church and the University of Kentucky Alumni Association.

Survivors include her mother, Virginia L. Bray of Florence; and a brother, Dwight Bray of Hebron.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Winchester Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Methodist Children's Home, P. O. Box 749, Versailles, Ky. 40383. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is handling arrangements.

Rosella F. Busemeyer, 91, of Fort Wright, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center in Fort Wright. She was a retired chemist with Aero Jet General and Emery Industries.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian burial was this morning at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Entombment was in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright. Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Paul E. Cole, 71, of Ludlow, died at 8:10 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a retired driver with Complete Auto Transit Co., Cincinnati, and a member of First Baptist Church of Ludlow and Teamsters Union Local No. 100, Cincinnati. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Peters Cole; sons, Gary Cole of Hebron and Russell Cole of Crab Orchard; daughters, Andrea Slone of Browns, Ill., Shondonn Moore of Ney, Ohio, Paula White and Samantha Deller, both of Ludlow, and Gwendolyn Paganelli, Sherry Pegg and Rhonda Denterlein, all of Cincinnati; a sister, Francis Lounsbery of Atlanta; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011.

Raymond H. Dabbelt Sr., 87, of Taylor Mill, died at 1:05 a.m. Sunday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired dietician supervisor with the Veterans Hospital in Fort Thomas, and a member of St. Anthony Church in Taylor Mill and Irish Rovers senior citizens club. He was a former member of the Taylor Mill Volunteer Fire Department and an Army veteran of World War II.

His wife, Gertrude Dabbelt, died in 1983. A son, Raymond H. Dabbelt Jr., died in 1995.

Survivors include sons, Kenneth Dabbelt of Florence, D. Michael Dabbelt of Erlanger and Jeffery Dabbelt of Taylor Mill; daughters, Cheryl Vogelpohl of Taylor Mill and Darlene Kleman of Lakeside Park; a brother, Zeno Dabbelt of Loveland, Ohio; a sister, Patricia O'Brien of Cincinnati; and 14 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Wednesday at St. Anthony Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, followed by prayers. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Veterans Administration Volunteer Organization, 1000 S. Erwin K. Flora, 81, of Wilder, died at 9:55 p.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a carpenter with Hinkle Co., Cincinnati, a member of Mayo Lodge F&AM in Grants Lick, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Verna K. Flora; a daughter, Janet Zinser of Wilder; brothers, Donald Flora of Cold Spring and Dwight Flora of Benton; and two grandchildren.

Her husband, Joseph Joseph, preceded her in death.

She was a retired regional manager with Lane Bryant clothing stores in Cincinnati, a member of St. Pius X Church Prayer Group and Credit Managers of America. Her husband, Richard F. Lukens, died in 1997.

Survivors include daughters, Suzanne Pompilio of Cincinnati, Christine Kennedy of Edgewood and Tracey Burk of Fort Wright; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.
