Sonja 'Sunnie' Jean Eckler, 54, of Corinth, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County in Williamstown. She operated a property damage appraisal service.

Survivors include her husband, Chester E. Eckler Jr.; sons, Dwayne Eckler of Corinth and Michael Eckler of Lexington; a daughter, Elizabeth Eckler of Corinth; a brother, William Rouse of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth, with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Hopeful Lutheran Church Cemetery, Florence.

Joseph F. Flynn, 70, formerly of Fort Wright, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. Arrangements are pending at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger.

Blanche Honican, 69, of Independence, died March 6 at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of Nicholson Church of Christ, Independence.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Honican; a son, Chris Honican of Covington; a daughter, Penny Stull of Crittenden; sisters, Betty Clark of Pleasant Plain, Ohio, Norma Gambill of Sayler Park, Ohio, Marie Robinson of Walton and Leola Miller of Nashville, Tenn.; brothers, John Henderson of Mount Olivet and William Henderson of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.

Services were held at Nicholson Church of Christ, Independence. Burial was in Kentontown Cemetery, Kentontown. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, handled arrangements.

Charles R. Kemplin, 85, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at his residence. Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Frances B. Meader, 74, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. She was a retired bookkeeper and a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Clearwater.

Survivors include sons, James D. Meader, Neal J. Meader, Raymond P. Meader and Gregory C. Meader of Clearwater; daughters, Judith A. Johnson and Mary Patricia Noser of Clearwater; a sister, Cecelia B. Schulte of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. April 8 at St. Cecilia Church, Clearwater. Abbey Parklawn Funeral Home, Palm Harbor, Fla., is handling arrangements.

John H. Mitchell, 57, of Newport, died Thursday at his residence. He owned Hardy's Rock Cafe, Newport.

Survivors include daughters, Melissa Mitchell of Newport and Michelle Mitchell of Dayton; sisters, Alleen Baker of Newport, Bernice Arrowood of Woodlawn and Mona Marcum of La Follette, Tenn.; and brothers, Richard Mitchell of Newport and C. B. Mitchell of Fort Thomas.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, with visitation from 11 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Jean G. O'Rourke, 78, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired office manager for Philip Carey Roofing and Building Supplies, Cincinnati.

Her husband, Clarence 'Clay' O'Rourke, preceded her in death. Survivors include a cousin, Dot Julch of Naples, Fla.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, with visitation from at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

William J. Schadle, 76, of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was a retired mechanic for the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Kelly Furnish VFW Post No. 7099.

Survivors include his wife, Peggie Schadle, and a brother, Eugene Schadle of Highland Heights.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption, Covington. Visitation will be 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Monday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

James Vincent Stella, 73, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. He was a retired brewer for Schaffer Brewery, New York City.

His wife, Christel Stella, died in 1997. Survivors include a daughter, Monica Kennedy of Erlanger; a son, Robert Stella of North Carolina; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Elizabeth L. Wagner, 71, of Highland Heights, died Friday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights.

Survivors include a brother, Arthur Wagner of Taylor Mill.

Edna Harp Webster, 77, of Crittenden, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Jack Maxwell of Morning View, Tommy Maxwell of Crittenden, Ned Maxwell of Dry Ridge and Kim Maxwell of Wilder; daughters, Grace Byrd of Mesa, Ariz., Joyce Webster of Dry Ridge, Bertha Kenney of Milan, Ind., Lola Stone of Lakeland, Fla., Ruby Burton of Burlington, Lara Myers of Florence and Debbie Dalton of Crittenden; sisters, Edith Brewer of Walton, Nola Nelson of Norwood, Ohio, and Lucy Murray and Margrete Baker of Cincinnati; brothers, Clarence Harp of Sayle Park, Ohio, and Arnold Harp of Arkansas; 45 grandchildren and 56 great- grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, with visitation from 11 a.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

William Vernon Webster, 55, of Louisville, died Wednesday at his residence. He formerly worked for the Louisville Parks Department.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Perry Webster; brothers, Tommy Webster of Owenton and Charlie Mike Webster of Jonesville; and sisters, Edith Beach of Elliston and Deetta McCormick of Owenton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at McDonald Funeral Home, Seminary Street, Owenton, with visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. today. Burial will be in Vine Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ruth Wilson, 67, of Glencoe, died Thursday at her residence. She was a retired manager in the radiology department at St. Francis Hospital, Western Hills, Ohio.

Survivors include her husband, Edgar 'Bud' Wilson Jr.; sons, Stephen Metz of Raleigh, N.C., Douglas Metz of Cincinnati and Christopher Metz of Lexington; daughters, Marcy Hayes of Cincinnati and Tori Reinke of Glencoe; stepdaughters, Patty Petzinger of Owenton and Linda Campbell of Fresno, Calif.; sisters, Laverne Banet of San Diego, Jane Wilson of Latonia, Mariella Meier, Imelda Nageleisen and Joan France, all of Taylor Mill; and 14 grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia, with visitation from 11 a.m. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Charles Kemplin, was Mason, crossing guard in Fort Thomas

Charles R. Kemplin had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, many of whom he met as a volunteer firefighter, a school crossing guard and an active Mason.

'He knew a lot of people,' said one of his sons, Earl Kemplin of Highland Heights.

Mr. Kemplin, 84, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at his home.

He also met many people at a service station and carryout in Fort Thomas operated by another son, Charlie Kemplin of Fort Thomas.

'He was in the store about every day, talking with people,' Earl Kemplin said of his father. 'He always got along with everybody.'

Mr. Kemplin worked much of his life as a machinist with the Ohio Knife Co. in Cincinnati. After he retired, he began a job as a school crossing guard for Fort Thomas schools, which he did for about a dozen years, Earl Kemplin said. He was stationed near his son's store.

'He was at the Inverness crossing, and at Pentland and Grand Avenue. He liked the kids and they looked forward to seeing him,' Earl Kemplin said.

Mr. Kemplin also had driven an ambulance with the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Kemplin was a past master of Fort Thomas Masonic Lodge No. 808 and a past commander of the Knights Templar of Newport and Jeffries Council in Dayton. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Covington and Shriner's Olieka Temple in Lexington.

'I think he was grand master of the lodge a couple of different times. He did a lot of charity work on Masonic projects, including collecting aluminum and other recycling material, to get shoes and glasses for kids,' Earl Kemplin said.

Mr. Kemplin also was a member of First Baptist Church, Newport.

Other survivors include his wife, Edith Kemplin; a son, Lonnie Kemplin, of Fort Thomas; daughter, Flo McGill of Alexandria; a sister, Mary Ellen Bischoff of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Shriner's Burns Institute, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Marie Buckley Blair, 62, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a waitress with the Waffle House restaurant in Florence.

Survivors include a son, Christopher Stenstream of Delray Beach, Fla.; daughters, Anne Hunter of Rifle, Colo., and Victoria Stenstream of Florence; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Ms. Blair donated her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to Leukemia Society of America, 100 Merchant St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45246.

John R. Blakely, 87, of Fort Mitchell, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.

Charles J. 'Burr' Butler, 94, of Fort Mitchell, died Saturday at his grandson's home in Edgewood. He was a retired owner of Butler's Cafe, Covington, and a former head clerk with Turfway and River Downs race tracks. His wife, Loraine Hegge Butler, died in 1991. A son, Charles R. Butler, died in 1988.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Butler of Erlanger; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to charity. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.
