John Ray Centers Sr., 65, of Covington, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired forklift operator with Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Fredia Centers; sons, Steve Centers of Walton and John Ray Centers Jr. of Covington; daughters, Anita Wilson of Covington and Paula Cundiff of Cincinnati; stepbrothers, Robert Centers, Bill Centers and Clifford Centers, all of Williamsburg; a stepsister, Ruth Perry of Williamsburg; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Mary Alene DuPuy, 82, of Elsmere, died at 1:08 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired housekeeper with Drawbridge Estates, Fort Mitchell, and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret Davenport of Elsmere.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to charity.

John H. Fausz, 84, of Lakeside Park, died Sunday at Florissant, Mo.

A. Louise Gaines, 78, of Owenton, died Sunday at Owen County Memorial Hospital in Owenton. She was a retired employee of the Cabinet for Human Resources and Lou's Depression Glass-Antiques in Owenton, and a member of Owenton First Baptist Church. Her husband, Everett C. Gaines, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Douglas L. Gaines of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Craig Gaines of Glencoe and Everett C. Gaines of York Springs, Pa.; a brother, Kenny Cobb of Independence; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owenton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes. Association, 721 W. Main St., Louisville, Ky. 40202.

Ruth E. Budde Graue, 85, of Covington, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Monica Society of St. Augustine Church, Covington, the American Business For Women Association and Pathfinders. Her husband, Lawrence F. 'Barney' Graue, died in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Jean Graue of Covington.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Church. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Memorials are suggested to Cincinnati Association for the Blind, 2045 Gilbert Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45205.

Owens 'Joe' Gray, 79, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at his home. He was a farmer and a member of Verona Church of Christ. A son, Robert Gray, died in 1998.

Survivors include his wife, Maudie Gray; sons, Donnie Gray and Roy Gray, both of Dry Ridge, Carlos Gray of Williamstown and Elmer Clinton Gray of Demossville; daughters, Daisy Herzog of Independence, Alma Mason of Dry Ridge, Audrey Murphy of Morning View and Terreca Workman of Williamstown; 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Terry Lee McMahan Jr., son of Brandy Sipple and Terry Lee McMahan Sr. of Independence, was stillborn Friday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include grandparents, Donald and Connie Lemox of Independence, Danny and Dolly McMahan of Independence, and Jack and Connie Sipple of Erlanger.

Graveside services were this morning at Gardnersville Christian Cemetery. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, handled arrangements.

Shawnee Messer, son of Shawn and Michelle Messer of Cannon, Ind., was stillborn Thursday at University Hospital, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include brothers, Shane R. Messer and Shawn Messer Jr., both at home; grandparents, Bonnie and Robert Martin of Silver Grove; and great-grandparents, Alice and Roy Hutton of Covington.

Edith A. Oldendick, 90, of Highland Heights, died Sunday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was an Avon sales representative. Her husband, Charles Oldendick, died in 1968.

Survivors include sons, Charles J. Oldendick of Highland Heights and Richard Oldendick of California; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Joseph Franklin O'Nan, 84, of Millersburg, died Friday at St. Joseph Hospice Care Center, Lexington. He was a retired mechanic and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Pauline Taylor O'Nan, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sisters, Mildred Billie Garretson of Brandenburg and Mary Katherine Williams of Florida.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today at Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Frank L. Vice, 73, of Edgewood, died Thursday at his home. He was a retired meat cutter with the Kroger Co., a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Williamstown and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Sears of Cincinnati; sons, Steve Vice of Dry Ridge, Ron Vice of Independence and Mike Vice of Pell City, Ala.; brothers, Jimmie D. Vice of Georgetown and Jackie Vice of Williamstown; a sister, Eloise Conrad of Harrodsburg; eight grandchild ren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Eddie Lee Washington Sr., 60, of Roseboro, N.C., formerly of Maysville, died Saturday at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro, N.C., after an extended illness. He was a retired factory worker.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Boone Washington ; daughters, Mable Pierce of Marietta, Ga., Mary Ann Rutty of Newberg, N.Y., and April Lewis of Forestville, Md.; sons, Eddie Washington Jr. of Troy, N.Y., Sabian Washington of Lake Wales, Fla., and Charles Boone of Beacon, N.Y.; brothers, Pearlie Washington Jr. of Ripley, Ohio, and Robert Washington of Maysville; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Maysville. Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick, is handling arrangements.

Charles Whitten, 82, of Cincinnati, formerly of Latonia, died Sunday at Dupree Community Nursing Home, Cincinnati.

Herschel Pratt, served others

Herschel Pratt of Newport was always helping others - family members, friends, even perfect strangers.

'He just had a real servant heart,' said one of his sons, Thom Pratt of Cincinnati. 'He just consistently ministered to others.'

Mr. Pratt, 64, a U.S. Air Force veteran, died Monday at his home. He was a retired service manager with Campbell County Chevrolet, Newport.

Mr. Pratt was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Newport, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees and the deacon board and superintendent of the Sunday school. He was a volunteer with Christian Counseling Association and Fairhaven Rescue Mission, Covington. He also was a member of the Northern Kentucky Baptist Association.

'He put God and his Christian faith in front of everything he did,' his son said. 'He encouraged others to get involved in community and in church.'

Mr. Pratt loved golf and was a University of Kentucky basketball fan. He was a proud father who adored his grandchildren.

'He was just a wonderful man,' Thom Pratt said. 'We were very blessed to have him as a father.'

Other survivors include his wife, Mary Pratt; a daughter, Tracey Iles of Newport; a son, Gregory Pratt of Fort Thomas; sisters, Elizabeth Dunn of Amherst, Ohio, and Maxine Walker of Newport; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Johns Hill Cemetery, Highland Heights.

Memorials are suggested to Trinity Baptist Church Building Together for Christ Fund, 510 Park Ave., Newport, Ky. 41071. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.
