John H. Fausz, 84, of Lakeside Park, died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Florissant, Mo. He was a retired employee of Sears, Roebuck & Co., and a self-employed carpenter. He also was a member of Carpenter's Union Local No. 698 and St. Paul United Church of Christ, Fort Wright, and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Fausz; a son, Dr. Fredrick Fausz of Florissant, Mo.; a daughter, Jeanette Fausz of Florissant; a brother, Edward Fausz of Harrison, Ohio; sisters, Frances Kueven of Fort Thomas, Ann Ziegler of Latonia and Thelma Lucas of Alexandria; and one grandson.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Christian Community Church, 429 Fort Henry Drive, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011; or the charity of the donor's choice. Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Shirley M. Grothaus, 64, of Cold Spring, died at 11:17 a.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a correspondence secretary with Disabled American Veterans, Cold Spring.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard E. Grothaus Sr.; sons, Leonard E. Grothaus Jr. and Thomas Grothaus, both of Cold Spring, Dennis Grothaus of California, Douglas Grothaus of Covington and Richard Grothaus of Alexandria; and 11 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042; or Disabled American Veterans, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Nahla V. Hammond, 60, of Covington, died at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. She was a sales clerk with Shillito's department store and a volunteer with Senior Citizens of Northern Kentucky.

Survivors include sons, Edward Hammond of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Tom Hammond of Park Hills; daughters, Patricia Willen of Walton, Yolanda Cole of Port St. Lucie and DeLaVerne Wong of Chicago; her mother and stepfather, Beulah D. and Earl Hinte of Covington; brothers, Ronald Walters of Palm Beach, Fla., and Earl Hinte of Taylor Mill; sisters, Patty Ferguson of Erlanger and Nancy Csikany of Philadelphia; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Nahla Hammond Memorial Fund, in care of Earl Hinte, 108 N. Juarez, Taylor Mill, Ky. 41017. Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona, is handling arrangements.

Albert J. Haverkamp, 92, of Bellevue, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.

Cecil Houston, 70, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a laborer and a member of Tabernacle of Faith Church, Florence.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Ellen Houston of Taylor Mill; a sister, Lorena Stewart of Taylor Mill; and brothers, Posey Houston of Covington, Boyd Houston of Taylor Mill, El wood Houston of Ryland Heights and Eldon Houston of Edgewood.

Services were this morning at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Norman Lester Hughes, 55, of Warsaw, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. Survivors include his wife, Kay Hughes; sons, Darrell Hughes and Robert Hughes, both of Warsaw; his parents, Grace Hughes of Loveland, Ohio, and Homer Hughes of Hamilton, Ohio; brothers, Gene Hughes of Nashville, Tenn., Ron Hughes of Amelia, Ohio, and Glen Hughes of Newport; 12 stepchildren; and several grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. today at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. today.

Grace Mary Wanner Mason, 83, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was an employee of William Powell Valve Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Newport. Her husband, Charles E. Mason, died in 1977.

Survivors include cousins.

Services will be at noon Friday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Dolores Price, 74, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Park Hills, died at 6:32 p.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a past president and treasurer of Kelly Furnish VFW Post No. 7099 Ladies Auxiliary in Covington, and VFW Post No. 7909 Ladies Auxiliary in Jacksonville. She was a volunteer with Veterans Administration Hospital in Jacksonville.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Price; a daughter, Donna Quinlan of Jacksonville; a brother, William Ackley of Edgewood; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Bud E. Rust, 83, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a carpenter with B&O Railroad, a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1469, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include sisters, Helen Lauderman of Independence and Margaret Cain of Orlando, Fla.

Dorothy C. Schild, 102, of Florence, died at 11:48 a.m. Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center. She was a jewelry designer with Whitehead Jewelers and a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, Lakeside Park. Her husband, Arthur Schild, died in 1973.

Survivors include sons, William A. Schild of Lakeside Park and Richard E. Schild of Lake Placid, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Henrietta 'Ann' B. Simon, 72, of Wichita, Kan., died at 2:39 p.m. Saturday at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. She was a retired nurse and was formerly known as Sister Luke of the St. Benedict Order.

Survivors include sisters, Flo Goetz of Newport and Loretta Flesch of Edgewood; and a brother, Roy Simon of Hamilton, Ohio.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Corpus Christi Church, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Hazel N. Stull, 84, of Covington, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington. She was a homemaker. Her husband, James H. Stull, died in 1989. A daughter, Sarah Stull, died in 1937.

Survivors include sons, James Stull of Newport, William Stull of Covington, Henry Stull of Morning View and Charles Stull of Wilder; daughters, Nellie Hulley and Hazel Skaggs, both of Newport, Charlotte Jones of Covington, Virginia Sandfoss of Alexandria, Mildred Schack of California, Edith Earles of Foster and Ethel Carroll of Falmouth; 63 grandchildren; 117 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

James R. Warf, 82, of Dayton, died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a draftsman with Wolfe Machine Co., Cincinnati, a member of God's Pentecostal Church in Dayton, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Broshear Warf; daughters, Barbara Hicks of Stearns, Mary Marquis of Highland Heights and Wanda Paul of Bethel, Ohio; sons, Carl Warf of Bethel, Henry Warf and Larry Warf, both of Dayton; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; seven great-great- grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Julia Walters Black, taught at Highlands for 28 years

Whether on walks about town or out shopping, Julia Walters Black always seemed to run into former students who had something nice to say to the English teacher who taught at Highlands High School for 28 years.

'They'd say, "She was my favorite teacher. I'll always remember Mrs. Black. She taught me how to write,' ' said Mrs. Black's daughter-in-law, Jayne Black of Fort Thomas. 'She loved teaching. She just loved the young people. She just enjoyed getting up and going to work.'

Julia Black, 79, of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Thomas. She also was an actress with Theater Productions in Fort Thomas in the 1950s and was a member of Delta Delta sorority.

Mrs. Black enjoyed reading, listening to music and traveling. She adored her two sons and their chil dren, her daughter-in-law said.

'She was our source of sunshine,' said Jayne Black. 'She supported us in everything we did, in all our endeavors she was very encouraging. She loved life and lived it to the fullest, and we were proud to be part of her. She was wonderful, she really was.'

Other survivors include her sons, John Edford Black of Fort Thomas and Stephen Walters Black of Southport, Conn.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Chester B. Barnhart, 84, of Maysville, died at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday at Villa Georgetown Nursing Home in Georgetown, Ohio. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle Church, Maysville.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Ann Byrd Barnhart; sons, Richard Barnhart and Phillip 'Mike' Barnhart, both of Cincinnati; a daughter, Barbara Dusseau of Sabina, Ohio; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Apostolic Faith Tabernacle Church, Maysville. Burial will be in Silvercreek Township Cemetery, Silvercreek, Ohio. Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, is handling arrangements.

John J. Damico, 76, of Latonia, died Wednesday at his home. He was an employee of Republic Creosoting and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Louise Curtin Damico, died in 1998.

Survivors include brothers, Pete Damico and Joe Damico, both of Cincinnati; and sisters, Camille McCombs and Carrie Bayer, both of Cincinnati, Norma Clemmons of Latonia and Rose Terzo of Hamilton, Ohio.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Melvin 'Whitey' Dance, 64, of Middletown, Ohio, formerly of Newport, died at 9:06 a.m. Wednesday at Hawthorne Glen Nursing Home in Middletown. He was a pipe fitter with Kiser 600, Middletown. His wife, Clara Shaper, died in 1998.

Survivors include daughters, Connie Pohlabel and Melva Keith, both of Middletown, and Pamela Mace of North Carolina; stepdaughters, Carolyn Mace and Brenda Farley, both of Middletown, and Linda Clark of South Lebanon, Ohio; brothers, James R. Dance of West Covina, Calif., and Thomas Dance of Southgate; sisters, Joyce Norton, Esther Reynolds, Jeanette Dance and Lillian Dance, all of Newport; 24 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Vistas Hospice of Hamilton, Hamilton, Ohio 45011.

Christine Wells Dotson, 86, of Carlisle, formerly of Robertson County, died Thursday at Johnson-Mathers Health Care Center in Carlisle. She was a homemaker and a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, Robertson County. Her husband, Elmer 'Skin' Dotson, died in 1992.

Survivors include sons, Earl Dotson of Russellville, Ohio, James Dotson of Fleming County and Bill Dotson of Aberdeen, Ohio; daughters, Grace Curtis and Alice Clark, both of Robertson County; brothers, James Wells of Morehead and Leslie Wells of Fleming County; sisters, Ruby Boggess and Edith Wilson, both of Flemingsburg, Grace Bentley of Brooksville, Bernice Grant of Fleming County and Ruth Whitten of Indiana; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
