Robert Fields, 51, of Wilder, died at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a sheet metal worker with Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local No. 24, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Therese Church Athletic Association, Southgate.

Survivors include his wife, Dail Wilson Fields; a son, Robert F. Fields of Bronston; daughters, Dionna J. Sexton of Latonia and Jaimy Lea Fields of Wilder; his mother, Margaret Egan of Monroe, N.C.; sisters, Sondra White of Monroe, N.C., Vicki Gray of Bowling Green and Margie Love of Birmingham, Ala.; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Edith Faye Hobbs, 94, of Lebanon, Ohio, died Tuesday at Otterbein-Lebanon Home in Lebanon. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Methodist Church, Bellevue. Her husband, John W. Hobbs, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Louise Gordon of Troy, Ohio; a sister, Frances Sanders of Edgewood; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Leukemia Society of America, 100 Merchant St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45246.

Virginia Linda Freimuth Hungler, 81, of Taylor Mill, died Tuesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Taylor Mill. Her husband, Charles Hungler Sr., died in 1997.

Survivors include sons, Charles F. Hungler of Covington, Dennis Hungler of Independence and Stephen Hungler of Taylor Mill; daughters, Rita Furnish of Taylor Mill and Sharon Hamilton of Latonia; sisters, Eleanor Duncan of Loveland, Ohio, Delores Reckers of Covington, Dorothy Lykins of Florence and Joan Bradshaw of Springfield, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Shirley Jean Inloes, 74, of Foster, died at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Glendon Inloes; daughters, Dori J. Bachmann of California and Danese J. Inloes of Highland Heights; and a son, Mark T. Inloes of Foster.

Services will be at noon Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Edward T. Mohlenkamp, 81, of Newport, died at 2:10 p.m.

Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a self-employed barber for 50 years on Monmouth Street in Newport and was a member of Henry Barnes Masonic Lodge No. 607, Dayton.

Survivors include his wife, Marty Lou Mohlenkamp.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Everett Platt, 78, of Falmouth, died Monday at his home. He was a farmer. His wife, Irene Gillespie Platt, died in 1997.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Ruber and Carol Cobb, both of Falmouth, a sister, Flossie Fryman of Cynthiana; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, Pendleton County. Memorials are suggested to Mount Vernon Cemetery Fund or Northern Kentucky paramedics.

Gladys Kirk Renaker, 94, of Louisville, formerly of Latonia, died at 8:55 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Manor, Louisville. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Runyon Memorial Christian Church, Latonia. She was a member of Hurstbourne Christian Church, Louisville. Her husband, Thomas B. Renaker, died in 1995.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane R. Archer of Louisville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Runyon Memorial Christian Church, 3625 Decoursey Ave., Covington, Ky. 41015; or Hurstbourne Christian Church, 601 Nottingham Parkway, Louisville, Ky. 40222.

Dorothy Campbell Robinson, 70, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. She was a receptionist with Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Fort Thomas. Her husband, J. Monroe Robinson, died in 1974.

Survivors include a son, Mark Robinson of Covington; a sister, Betty Jean Arns of Florence; and brothers, Alan Campbell of Independence and Harold Campbell of Walton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Chester Spears, ran Ludlow schools

Chester Spears was a former superintendent of Ludlow Public Schools who came to his profession later in life.

Mr. Spears, who began his career in the Ludlow district as an elementary school principal in the 1940s and ended as superintendent in the 1960s, didn't receive his teaching certificate until he was in his 30s.

But once he received his certificate, he poured himself into his life's work, said his son, Bruce Spears of Fort Mitchell.

'He was a Christian man and believed in the Bible completely,' Mr. Spears said. 'My mother was also a teacher. That was their life's work, going to church and teaching school.'

Mr. Spears, 99, of Ludlow, died at 11:10 a.m. Wednesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.

He was an elder emeritus of Ludlow Christian Church.

His wife, Gaye Short Spears, died in 1985.

Mr. Spears was born in Casey County, Ky.

He was a soft-spoken, easy-going man who earned his degree from Eastern Kentucky University and his master's degree from the University of Kentucky.

Bruce Spears said his father enjoyed playing baseball with him and lived a long life because he didn't smoke or drink.

'He also ate a lot of veggies,' Bruce Spears said.

Other survivors include two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

John W. Atherton, 76, of Erlanger, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired employee of the Internal Revenue Service and former owner of Quesnell Awning Co., Covington. He was a member of Erlanger Baptist Church and the Northern Kentucky Male Chorus and a former member of the Covington Rotary Club. Mr. Atherton was formerly active in the Boy Scouts and had served as choir director at several local Baptist churches. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Osborne Atherton; a son, John William Atherton Jr. of Gate City, Va.; a sister, Orena Moses of Williamsburg; a brother, Sam Atherton of Florence; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Erlanger Baptist Church Building Fund, 116 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger, Ky. 41018.

Hazel Y. Bell, 87, of Elsmere, died Tuesday at her home. She was a saleswoman, a member of Christ's Chapel Assembly of God Church in Erlanger and an election worker in Kenton County for many years. A son, Robert G. Bell, died in 1998. A daughter, Nancy F. Bell, died in 1997.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ's Chapel Assembly of God, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to charity. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Marcella Keane, 87, of Fort Mitchell, died at 4:35 p.m. Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home. She was a retired employee of the Internal Revenue Service, Covington. Her husband, Michael John Keane, died in 1987.

Survivors include daughters, Patty Gaskins of Cincinnati and Kathleen Bell of Erlanger; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Reginald L. Kinman Sr., 67, of Roanoke, Va., formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at his home. He was a retired landscape architect, having designed parts of Cradle of American Forestry in Virginia, the Jefferson National Forest and Blanchard Cavern Ozark National Forest in Arkansas.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hinton Kinman; a son, Reginald L. Kinman; daughters, Linda Kinman Lipstate and Alexis Kinman Hinchey; his mother, Ruth Yancey Kinman; a sister, Roberta Brinkley; a brother, Ronald Kinman; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakey's South Funeral Home, Roanoke. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Carl L. Mockbee, 67, of Walton, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired machine operator with Signode Corp., Kenton County.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Lou Ward Mockbee; sons, William E. Mockbee of Union and Carl Daniel Mockbee of Walton; daughters, Julie E. Mockbee of Walton and Merry Jo Sweet of Dry Ridge; a sister, Eva Ruth Mockbee of Walton; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton, is handling arrangements.

Charles William Nix, 72, of Taylor Mill, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a truck driver with O. K. Trucking Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Latonia Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 345, Latonia. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. His first wife, Glenda Clifford Nix, died in 1974.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cook Nix; daughters, Michelle Gullett of Latonia and Nickie Moore of Independence; stepsons, William Cook and Timothy Cook, both of Taylor Mill; sisters, Bettie Wayman of Independence and Helen Ruth Mullen of Erlanger; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

George B. Rigney, 51, of Elgin, Ill., formerly of Covington, died Monday at his home. He was an employee of Curtis Boiler Repair in Elgin and was an Army veteran of the Vietname War.

Survivors include a daughter, Autumn Rigney of South Elgin, Ill.; sons, Eric Rigney and Jordan Rigney, both of South Elgin; his mother, Margaret Rigney of Ludlow; and sisters, Regina Deters of Jacksonville, Fla., and Marjorie Palmer of Sevierville, Tenn.
