Latonia's 'Hank' Klare, bank worker, Rosie Red

Dependability was Henrietta "Hank" Klare's strong suit, both as a bank employee and a Reds fan.

"She worked for the bank for 42 years and never missed a day. Actually, I think she missed two days, when her mother and her father were buried," said Jackie Works, a long-time friend and co-worker.

Miss Klare, 81, of Latonia, died Friday night in Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.

Miss Klare worked as a clerk for Central Trust Bank, later PNC Bank, in downtown Cincinnati, and retired about 16 years ago, Mrs. Works said.

"She went to Reds games for years and years. She was a big baseball fan. She belonged to the Rosie Reds and made several trips to see games," said Mrs. Works.

Miss Klare met several players, including Tony Perez and Joe Morgan, Mrs. Work said. "Perez and his wife came into the bank, and she would talk with them," Mrs. Works said.

"Tony Perez was her favorite player, all right," said Helen Shields, another friend and former co-worker. "The Perezes would buy cashier's checks, and Hank got to know Tony and his wife very well."

A native of Covington, Miss Klare was known as Hank for much of her life. "She hated to be called Henrietta," said Mrs. Works.

Both friends said Miss Klare also loved to bowl.

"We had a lot of great times together," said Mrs. Works.

Miss Klare was a member of Holy Cross Church, Latonia. She was also a member of the American Business Women's Association and the Northern Kentucky Senior Citizens.

A brother, Walter Klare, died in 1988. A sister, Dorothy Yourell died in 1997.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Church. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, followed by prayers. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Rita School for the Deaf, 1720 Glendale-Milford Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45215.
