Kathryn Fae Ryle Reffitt, 84, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at her home. She was a retired cook with Doc's Place Restaurant and the former Shillito's Department Store, Cincinnati, and was a member of Erlanger Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ray W. Reffitt; and sisters, Freda Lee Pitts of Florence, Dora Mae Borders of Dayton, Ohio, and Norma Humphrey of Lexington.

Services were this morning at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Erlanger Baptist Church, 116 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger, Ky., 41018.

Deborah Rider, 45, of Ryland Heights, died at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.

Lana Sears, 93, of Highland Heights, died Wednesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home in Highland Heights. She was owner of Sears Stamp and Coin Shop, Covington, and a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Covington. Her husband, Harrison Sears, preceded her in death.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Saturday. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell.

Lawrence Matthew Trumbo, 72, of Bellevue, died Thursday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Deborah Kay Rider, taught special-education students

Deborah Kay Rider cherished the day she was given an opportunity to work with special-education students at Ryland Heights Elementary School.

"She loved it," said her husband, Charles Rider. "When she got her job there, she said, 'My dream finally came true.' "

Mrs. Rider, of Ryland Heights, worked in the "Writing to Read" program, using computers to help the students, her husband said.

She had to give up the work, however, for health reasons.

Mrs. Rider, 45, died at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.

"She had the greatest personality," her husband said. "She was a great woman and a good mother."

Mrs. Rider enjoyed knitting in her spare time.

She was a member of Decoursey Baptist Church in Fairview.

Other survivors include sons, Donald Shane Rider and Charles Shawn Rider, both at home; stepdaughters, Sheri Whitzel and Sandra Humphrey, both of Covington; her father, Ed Neal Sr. of Ryland Heights; a brother, Ed Neal Jr. of Hebron, Ind.; a sister, Linda S. Rehfeldt of Bolingbrook, Ill.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Betsy Fuller Allen, 76, of St. Louis, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at her residence.

She was a retired teacher who spent most of her career at Johnson Elementary School, Fort Thomas, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Her husband, Harold Martin Allen, died in 1996. Survivors include a daughter, Niesje Allen McElroy of Morganfield; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private services will be Sunday at First Presbyterian Church, Morganfield. Jerris E. Barrett, 47, of Newport, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington.

He was a dishwasher for Frisch's restaurant in Bellevue.

Survivors include children, brothers and sisters. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Bernard C. Beck, 71, of Newport, died Friday at his residence.

He was a retired businessman who formerly owned the Black Orchid Lounge in Southgate and Checker Furniture in Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Fisher Beck of Bellevue; sons, Larry Beck of Burlington, Ben Beck of Milford, Ohio, Jim Beck of Erlanger, Joe Beck of Wilder, David Beck of Bellevue and Robert Beck of Cincinnati; daughters, Sandi Hatfield of Cincinnati and Gina Beck of Seattle; a brother, Andrew Beck of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Estoria C. Brazeal, 79, of Savannah, Ga., died Wednesday at her son's residence in Florence.

She was a homemaker and a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell, where she was a communicant.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Frances Brazeal of Savannah; a son, Philip A. Courie Jr. of Florence; a brother, Herman J. Exley of Savannah; and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Catholic Cemetery, Savannah. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Sipple Mortuary, Savannah.

Betty Jane Carlisle, 76, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Covington, died Wednesday at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio.

She was a retired teacher for Columbus Public Schools.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas B. Carlisle of San Francisco.

Graveside services were Friday at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, handled arrangements.

Elizabeth Susan Donovan, 84, of Fort Wright, died Friday at Judson Village Nursing Home in Cincinnati.

She was a retired secretary for the Internal Revenue Service, Covington.

Her husband, George L. Donovan, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, George T. Donovan of Erlanger, Tim Donovan of Cincinnati and Michael Donovan of Los Angeles; daughters, Dori Altenau and Blanche Glenn, both of Cincinnati; 24 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Rebold Funeral Home, Cheviot, Ohio, is handling arrangements.

Franklin B. "Frank" Giles, 59, of Berry, died Friday at his residence after a long illness.

He was a retired steelworker for Ladish Co. and a member of Berry Baptist Church, Harrison County.

His wife, Nellie Mae Giles, died in 1996. A son, Franklin Giles, died in 1987. Survivors include daughters, Joyce Sparks of Kelat, Phyllis Perry and Helen Emery, both of Berry, and Diana Andes of Owenton; sons, Mark Richardson, Steve Richardson and Billy Joe Giles, all of Berry, and James Thomas Richardson of Kelat; sisters, Betty Fain of Georgetown and Patricia King of Lexington; 19 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Berry. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery, Harrison County.

Kenny Hook, 67, of Maysville, died Friday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.

He was a farmer, an Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include a sister, Ethel F. Kellum of Georgetown, Ohio; and a brother, Henry Hook of Cambridge City, Ind.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Maysville.

John J. Huesman, 68, of Delhi Township, Ohio, died Friday at his residence.

He was a retired controller for the Hamilton County Board of Elections.

Survivors include brothers, Thomas Huesman of Cincinnati and Richard Huesman of Winchester, and sisters, Rita Pharo of Bellevue and Mary Craddock of Aurora, Ind.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Dominic Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vitt, Stermer and Anderson Funeral Home, 4619 Delhi Pike, Cincinnati. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Giles "Red" Jordan, 86, of Cold Spring, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday at his residence. He was a retired doorman for the Gibson Hotel and the Clarion Hotel in Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Stulz Jordan; daughters, Mariann Feldman of Portland, Ore., Marcia McElroy of Cold Spring and Michele Jordan of Boston; sons, Ron Jordan of Chicago, Dave Jordan of Auburn, Ala., and Joe Jordan of Rotonda West, Fla.; a brother, Albert Jordan of Ludlow; a sister, Margaret "Peg" Stulz of Ludlow; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Campbell Lodge Boys Home, 150 Skyline Drive, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Christopher J. Klaene, 30, of Orlando, Fla, formerly of Alexandria, died at 11 p.m. Sunday at his residence.

He was a self-employed landscaper and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Alexandria.

Survivors include his parents, Gene and Julie Durcan Klaene of Alexandria; brothers, Adam Klaene of Newport and Jason Klaene of Alexandria; a sister, Anna Klaene of Alexandria; and grandparents, George and Catherine Klaene of Erlanger.

A memorial Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Anthony J. Pangallo, 43, of Newport, died Thursday at his residence. He was disabled.

His father, Dominic Pangallo, died in 1974. Survivors include a son, Dominic Pangallo of Maysville; daughters, Rachel Browning of Maysville and Sydney Pangallo of Newport; his mother, Virginia Pangallo of Newport; a brother, Ralph Pangallo of Newport; sisters, Carmella Dezarn of Bellevue, and Rose Marie Dant and Elizabeth Daniels, both of Newport; and one grandchild.

A memorial gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Memorials are suggested to the Pangallo family, c/o Pangallo Heating and Air Conditioning, 13 E. 10th St., Newport, Ky. 41071.
