Paul B. Young, 63, of Dry Ridge, died Friday at his home. He was a retired employee of Watterau Corp., East Butler, Pa., and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Young; a son, Paul Young of Donora, Pa.; a daughter, Laurie Hall of Marianna, Pa.; a stepson, Michael Noonan of Dry Ridge; a stepdaughter, Michele Godina of Bethlehem, Ga.; brothers, Daniel Young of Charleroi, Pa., and Richard Young of Bentleyville, Pa.; sisters, Connie Uhutch, Mary Bakitis and Sharon Harper, all of Charleroi, and Katherin McCurry of California, Pa.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mount Chestnut, Pa., Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, Prospect, Pa. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mount Chestnut.

Covington's Shirley Rose, loved family
Shirley Mae Abner Rose loved being with her family.
"What she enjoyed more than anything was her kids and grandkids," said her husband, Dillard H. Rose. "She has always been there for them. Whatever they wanted or needed, they usually got it from her."
Mrs. Rose, 58, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. Mrs. Rose was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church, Taylor Mill.
She was a former employee of the Kenton County school system and the Taylor Mill Bakery. She worked at the bakery for several years waiting on customers.
"Everybody in this neighborhood was in that bakery; they've all seen her," Mr. Rose said. "She liked working with people. She loved to be around people. She was always happy."
Mrs. Rose also loved going to yard sales.
"I've got enough junk here to prove it," Mr. Rose said.
Other survivors include sons, Don Allen Rose of Dry Ridge and Rodney L. Rose of Covington; a daughter, Ramona S. Hearn of Owenton; a sister, Birdie Bird of Covington; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
Peggy Marie Alig, 50, of Crestview Hills, died at 4 p.m. Monday at her home. She was a secretary with PNC Bank, Cincinnati, and a member of St. Pius X Church, Edgewood.
Survivors include daughters, Erin Alig and Anne Alig, both of Crestview Hills, and Meghan Bryant of Covington; her mother, Hester Coyle of Portsmouth, Ohio; brothers, John Coyle and Steve Coyle, both of Cincinnati, and James Coyle of Portsmouth; sisters, Kathie Meinrod of Dolores, Colo., Anne Malone and Mary Jane Jones, both of Portsmouth, and Barb Montavon of St. Louis; and two grandchildren.

Eleanor F. Brown, 78, of Alexandria, died Sunday at Highlands Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a retired medical secretary in the office of Dr. James Smith in Alvin, Texas , and a member of First Baptist Church, Newport, and the American Business Women Association in Kansas City, Mo. Her husband, Richard Brown, died in 1968.
Survivors include sons, Rick Brown of Webster, Texas , and Richard A. Brown of Florence; sisters, Lucille First of Fort Thomas, Rosella Henson of Newport and Opal Richmond of Alexandria; brothers, William B. Daniel of Soest, Holland, and Robert Daniel of Alexandria; and four grandchildren.

Beatrice M. Durstock, 91, of Burlington, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a bookkeeper with Burrough's Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence.
Her husband, William Durstock, and sons, James Durstock and Paul Durstock, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, William Durstock of Independence; a daughter, Shirley Thoss of Burlington; 24 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Annette Iona Howard, 80, of Burlington, died Monday at Woodland Hills Nursing Home, Lawrenceburg, Ind. She was a seamstress with Palm Beach Co., Erlanger. Her husband, Raymond Howard, died Feb. 2.

Harry A. Jaeger, 89, of Highland Heights, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired truck driver with Motor Terminal, Cincinnati. His wife, Ruth Schulte Jaeger, died in 1972.

James William Johnson, 50, of Crescent Springs, died Sunday in a motorcycle accident on northbound I-75 near the Brent Spence Bridge.

John R. Kidder, 73, of Flemingsburg, died at 9:44 a.m. Monday at his home. He was an employee of State National Bank, Maysville, and a mechanic with Calvert Motors and Hilltop Ford, both in Maysville. He was a member of Dekalb Lodge, Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kidder; and sisters, Dorothy Blevins of Maysville and Margaret Hunt of Mount Olivet.

Joseph G. Martz, 72, of Wilder, died Tuesday at Baptist Convalescent Home, Newport. He was a retired printer with Palms Brothers Printing, Norwood, Ohio, and a member of St. Stephen Church, Newport, and the Holy Name Society.

Emmett "Razz" Moore, 72, of Hebron, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired sheet metal worker with Lodge and Shipley Co., Cincinnati, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Hazel Schumacher, 89, of Fort Thomas, died at 3:32 a.m. Monday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Fort Thomas.
She was Brent Spence's secretary for 39 years, serving with him in his law office and in the U.S. Congress. She was a member of St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas, and the church Rosary Society and 55 Club. She was a member of Little Portions Chapter of the Franciscan Society and National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter No. 1760. James Ray Watson, 58, of Corinth, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a maintenance worker with Cincinnati Can Co. and a member of Lystra Church of Christ and Corinth Lion's Club.

Beechwood's Donna Jo Hornsby, honored as media pioneer, teacher
Donna Jo Hornsby, who pioneered the use of technology in school libraries and classrooms in Kentucky, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. The Florence resident was 53.
Ms. Hornsby was a media specialist with Beechwood Independent Schools for the last 21 years.
She was self-taught in the use of technology in school libraries and classrooms. Thanks largely to her efforts, Beechwood High School was one of the first in the state to use an electronic system for cataloging its library books.
She also taught courses on the Internet, and she designed pages on the World Wide Web for Beechwood schools and her church, Heritage Assembly of God, in Florence.
"She was active in going around and talking to other school librarians and showing people how to implement the technology in their libraries," said a son, Buddy Hornsby of Lexington.
Ms. Hornsby received many awards for her work, including the Merit Media Award from the state Department of Education and the Kentucky School Library Media Association's Outstanding Media Librarian award in 1991.
She was the 1992 Kentucky Department of Education Christa McAuliff Fellowship winner, and the recipient of the Golden Apple and Ben Franklin awards. Most recently, she was the featured speaker for the annual conference of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Ms. Hornsby taught classes at the University of Kentucky and Northern Kentucky University, and was active in the A.S.K. program for at- risk students at NKU in 1990.
She served as president of the Kentucky School Media Association from 1994 to 1995.
Ms. Hornsby grew up in Newport and graduated from Newport High School in 1962. Her mother, a librarian at Mildred Dean Elementary School in Southgate, inspired her professional ambitions.
She kept working until the days before her death.
"She adored the kids, and the kids adored her," said a daughter, Sharon Laycock, of Erlanger.
Ms. Hornsby was an active member of Heritage Assembly of God, serving as the church's organist for more than 20 years.
She also was an avid reader. She taught all of her children to read at young ages, Sharon Laycock said.
"She always had a book in front of us," she said.
Ms. Hornsby was a devoted mother, grandmother and aunt to her nephew, Joshua D. Farley, said another daughter, Karen Heidrich of Erlanger.
"She was like a best friend to all her children, and she will be greatly missed by the community," Ms. Heidrich said. "Her children love her deeply and will miss her."
Other survivors include her parents, Rev. John D. and Mrs. Delpha Farley of Fort Mitchell; sisters, Golden Roberts of Erlanger and Rebekah Hafer of Fort Mitchell; brothers, Dallas Farley of Florence, Lane Farley of Tappahannock, Va. and John D. Farley of Ellicott City, Md.; and two granddaughters.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heritage Assembly of God. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
