Mary Elizabeth Whirles Jacobs, 45, of Cynthiana, died Thursday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Wayne Jacobs; sons, Scott Eliott Jacobs and Marty Ray Jacobs, both of Harrison County; her father, James Whirles of Cynthiana; a brother, Jimmy Whirles of Nicholas County; and a sister, Juanita Smith of Nicholas County.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Carlisle Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U. S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Lester F. Klein, 81, of Dayton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.

He was a retired truck driver for Commercial Motor Freight Co. and a military veteran. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and Dayton VFW Kirsten O'Day Post.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Entombment will be in St. Stephen Cemetery Mausoleum, Fort Thomas.

Betty Ann Miller, 77, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a retired pantry chef with El Greco restaurant, Southgate, and a member of Latonia Christian Church. Her husband, Shirley Miller, died in 1996.

Survivors include daughters, Helen Scolf of Dayton, Linda Brown of Erlanger, Vicki Edwards, Sue Stines and Joanne Miller, all of Newport; sons, Larry Miller, Robbie Miller, Randy Miller and Terry Miller, all of Newport, and Allen Miller of Latonia; a sister, Amy Lee of Newport; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Patricia Ruth Steenken, 67, of Latonia, died at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was a retired administrative assistant for St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a member of St. Benedict Church, Covington. Her husband, Patrick H. Steenken, died in 1998.

Survivors include sons, David P. Steenken of Tokyo, Japan, Mark J. Steenken of Latonia and Paul J. Steenken of Arlington, Va.; daughters, Theresa A. Furnish of Florence, M. Camille Mersch of Taylor Mill and Jane M. Proctor of Park Hills; sisters, Rosemary Nelson of Taylor Mill and Betty Wicker of Columbus, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Benedict Church, Covington. Entombment will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Charlotte C. Wagner, 91, of Erlanger, died Thursday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere, where she was a member of the Altar Society, an auxiliary member of St. Ann's Knights of St. John and a volunteer at Madonna Manor, Villa Hills.

Her husband, Paul Wagner, and a son, Donald Wagner, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Paul E. Wagner and Roger Wagner, both of Erlanger; daughters, Carol Kremer of Cold Spring and Lynn Mahon of Cincinnati; a sister, Marie Wilson of the state of California; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Church. Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011.

James Black, loving dad, Scout leader

James Lowell Black Sr. of Taylor Mill enjoyed helping others.

Mr. Black was a police officer, councilman, teacher, coach and a Boy Scout leader.

"He was always there for everybody," said his wife, Patricia Ann Black. 'He wasn't happy unless he was doing something for someone else. He didn't sit still well."

Mr. Black, 51, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday at Anderson Mercy Hospital, Cincinnati, of injuries suffered in an auto accident.

Mr. Black was vice president in charge of sales with Cincinnati Voice & Data, and a retired technician with Cincinnati Bell Telephone. He was a unit commissioner with the Boy Scouts of America, taught real estate classes at Southern Ohio College and was a former police officer and council member in Georgetown, Ohio.

Mr. Black also was a member of American Legion Post No. 201, Latonia.

Mr. Black, who enjoyed bowling and playing cards, loved being around his family, especially his grandchildren.

"He was a wonderful father and husband," Mrs. Black said. "He was everybody's best friend."

Other survivors include a son, James Lowell Black Jr. of Taylor Mill; daughters, Carrie Riggenbach of Amelia, Ohio, Candy Bullock of Bromley and Cindy Lovett of Staten Island, N.Y.; a brother, Charles William Black Jr. of Batavia, Ohio; a sister, Marjorie Frodge of Georgetown, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Boy Scouts of America, 2331 Victory Parkway, Cincinnati, Ohio 45206.

Beverly Michelle Engle-Arens, 3, of Walton, died June 25 in Ypsilanti, Mich.

Survivors include her parents, William Engle of Walton and Elizabeth Ripley of Dade City, Fla.; half-sisters, Autumn Pope of Florence and Nora Ripley of Dade City; a half-brother, Joshua Arens of Florence; and grandparents, Vardill and Jill Engle of Walton and Robert and JoAnn Arens of Zephyrhills, Fla.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Rev. Edward J. Beck, 91, of Alexandria, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired Navy chief yeoman, having served as an instructor. He also was a former district supervisor for District No. 5 of the Kentucky Division of Fish and Wildlife and a former Veterans Administration worker.

Rev. Beck was a past high priest of Gertrude Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 19 and a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows, and was commissioned a Kentucky Admiral. He was a member of Newport Masonic Lodge No. 358; Mount Olivet Lodge 291; Indra Consistory of Covington; Newport Commandry No. 12 of Knights Templar; Jeffries Council No. 33 Royal Select Masters; and Fort Thomas Chapter No. 177 RAM.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth L. Beck; a stepson, Ronald Beck of Newport; a daughter, Mary Ellen Struiksma of Bonita, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Carol Clevenger of Fort Wright; a sister, Louise Harvey of Newport; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Warren J. Blackburn, 77, of Williamstown, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at Grant Manor Nursing Home in Williamstown. He was a retired superintendent with the Kentucky Department of Transportation, a former Kentucky Post carrier and a former driver for Louis Trauth Dairy, Newport. He was a member of Clark's Creek Baptist Church, Dry Ridge.

His first wife, Louise Henry Blackburn, died in 1979. His second wife, Gladys Wilson Blackburn, died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Greg W. Blackburn of Williamstown; daughters, Jo Ann Blackburn of Lexington and Melody L. McCormick of Crittenden; a brother, Blaine Blackburn of Dry Ridge; a sister, Rosella Scroggins of Williamstown; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Rea Breuer, 79, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at the Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a clerk with Palm Beach Co., Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Breuer; a sister, Ruth Ashcraft of Independence and a brother, Harry Koenig of Fort Thomas.

Edna Esther Bucchi, 79, of Newport, died Saturday at her home. She was a retired nurse with Booth Hospital, Covington, and a member of Free Pentecostal Holiness Church, Corbin. Her husband, Fred Bucchi, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Jeff Bucchi of Newport; daughters, Lena Mae Sawyers of Corbin and Annette Cunningen of Newport; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.

Daisy Mae Campbell, 45, of Maysville, died at 8:48 a.m. Saturday at University Medical Center, Lexington. She was a cook with Golden Corral Steakhouse, Maysville. A daughter, Mary Jean Campbell, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Campbell; her father, Floyd Evans of Maysville; and brothers, Everett Evans of Foxport and Danny Ray Evans of Dover.

Audrey Williams Caudill, 78, of Taylor Mill, died at 11:55 a.m. Friday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Hilltop Church of Christ, Taylor Mill. Her husband, James F. Caudill, died in 1986.

Survivors include sons, Charles Robert Caudill of Austin, Texas , James Thomas Caudill of Indianapolis and John Franklin Caudill of Crestview Hills; a daughter, Shirley Lynn Hunter of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Edgar J. Williams of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

William S. Clore, 83, of Norwood, Ohio, died Friday at Jewish Hospital Kenwood, Cincinnati. He was a mechanic with Hern Marine, Cincinnati, and a member of Belleview Baptist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Burlington Masonic Lodge No. 264 and Syrian Shrine.

Survivors include his wife, Mary J. Clore; a son, Gary Clore of Cincinnati; a daughter, Darla Jo Wiggins of Norwood; brothers, Alvin Clore and Gerald Clore, both of Burlington, and Edward Clore of Tavares, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery. Lucien L. Davidson, 78, of Crittenden, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a millwright with Cincinnati Inc. in Cincinnati, and a member of Fifth Street Christian Church, Covington. He was a member of Covington Masonic Lodge No. 109 and the Good Guys Club in Walton, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Davidson.
