James Armstrong

MADISONVILLE - James E. Armstrong, 57, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at his home of an apparent heart attack. He worked for the Hopkins County Detention Center and had worked for the police and fire departments.

He was a Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Coleen; two daughters, Marita Jan Bush of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Christine Harris of Dawson Springs; a son, James L. of Slaughters; a stepson, Chadwick J. of Madisonville; his father and stepmother, Reg and Eula Armstrong of Madisonville; a stepsister, Carolyn Capps of Hanson; a brother, Gary Neal of Nashville, Tenn.; two stepbrothers, William Renfro of Hanson and Steve Renfro of Dawson Springs; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Matthew E.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Macedonia Cemetery in Kuttawa.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes. Association.

Richard Mundy Sr.

STURGIS - Richard L. "Larry" Mundy Sr., 60, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his home of cancer.

He was a coal miner, a Vietnam Air Force veteran and a member of the United Mine Workers and Sturgis General Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Dee Ann (Ketchum); two daughters, Ricci Mundy of Memphis, Tenn., and Becky Mundy of Sturgis; a son, Richard "Butch" Jr. of Sturgis; his father, Clyde Maynard of Sturgis; a sister, Kathy Maynard McMichen of Sturgis; and a grandchild, Jordan Mundy.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in Pythian Ridge Cemetery. Laura Tucker

MORGANFIELD - Laura Mae Tucker, 88, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

She retired from the Department of Defense and was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

Surviving are a sister, Vivian Stewart of Morganfield; and a niece and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with burial in St. Ann Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

Laban Perry

DAWSON SPRINGS - Laban L. Perry, 94, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at National Healthcare Nursing Home.

He retired after 40 years with the Postal Service, had been assistant post master in Dawson Springs and was a city councilman from 1969 to 1974.

He was a member and deacon of the First Christian Church.

Surviving are a son, Kenneth of Versailles; a sister, Imogene Menser of Dawson Springs; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eudenah (Hamby), in 1988, and a daughter, Susan Mestan, in 1997.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church, with burial in Rosedale Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church. Beashear Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Billy Wix

MADISONVILLE - Billy Joe Wix, 60, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Madisonville Regional Medical Center of a brain tumor.

He was a truck driver for Farm Bureau and a member of Island Ford Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy; a son, Jeff of Illinois; four sisters, Mary Warren and Wilma Moss, both of West Moreland, Tenn., Betty Barber of Earlington and Patricia Vanover of Madisonville; four brothers, Earl, Roy, Donald and Doug, all of Tennessee; two granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Harris Funeral Home, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his church.

Edwina O'Hara

MARION - Edwina O'Hara, 76, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Crittenden County Hospital of heart failure.

She was a 1946 graduate of the University of Mississippi and a member of Marion United Methodist Church, Delta Zeta Sorority and the National Association of Retired Federal Workers.

Surviving are a daughter, Frances Woodring of Sturgis; two grandchildren, Sarah and Mark Woodring; and a niece. Her husband, Dickey, preceded her in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gilbert Funeral Home, with burial in Kuttawa Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the cemetery fund.

Arthur Rickard Jr.

MADISONVILLE - Arthur "Dude" Rickard Jr., 75, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at his home of apparent heart failure.

He retired as a miner from Peabody River Queen Mines and was a World War II Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Betty; four daughters, Mary Janell Daugherty and Sherry McGowan, both of Madisonville, Guynith Ann Henderson of Eddyville and Sue Ellen Mercer of Dawson Springs; two sons, Arthur of Mortons Gap and Richard Patrick of Hanson; a half sister, Gay Linda West of Madisonville; a half brother, Mike of Island; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New York City Police and Firemen Widows' and Children's Fund.

Ida Nally

WAVERLY - Ida Nally, 78, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson of complications of emphysema.

Surviving are a daughter, Pauline Nally of Henderson; a son, Ray of Morganfield; five sisters, Ethel Eckels of Evansville, Odessie Eckels of Corydon, Eva Fulcher of Dixon, Vida Dodd of Pikeville, Tenn., and Nellie McAnich of Kokomo, Ind.; a brother, Prentice Powell of Cairo; two grandchildren, Brandon and Erin Nally; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Nally, in 1998.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home Morganfield Chapel, with burial in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from noon to service time at the funeral home.

Evelean French

MORGANFIELD - Evelean C. French, 84, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Morganfield Nursing and Rehab.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Shannon Newton and Patricia Lewis, both of Louisville, Joyce Whitehead of Sturgis and Debbie Henshaw of Morganfield; four sons, Larry, Gene, Roger and Wendell, all of Morganfield; six sisters, Agnes Hollander and Theresa Herr, both of Evansville, Maxine D'Elia of Vero Beach, Fla., Joanne Hancock of Lexington, Ann Simon of Sarasota, Fla., and Geraldine Omer of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; four brothers, Lewis Collins of Evansville, Gene Collins of Waverly, Phil Collins of Henderson and Eddie Collins of Morganfield; 26 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. French, in 1984.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Ann Catholic Church, with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery in Uniontown.

Friends may call from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. today.

Rev. Lester Nash

HENDERSON - The Rev. Lester Lee Nash, 72, of Danville, formerly of Henderson, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Ephrim McDowell Hospital of apparent heart failure.

He was a graduate of Bosse High School in Evansville and attended Tennessee Temple Seminary in Chattanooga, Tenn.

He served as a Baptist minister for 47 years and was pastor of eight Southern Baptist churches, including Junction City First Baptist Church and Airline Baptist Church in Henderson, from which he retired in 1991. After his retirement, he served more than 10 churches as interim pastor.

He served on the executive boards of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Kentucky Baptist Convention.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Idella Jennings Nash; four daughters, Threasha Hendricks and Belinda Jo Birdsey, both of Norfolk, Va., Deanna Whittamore of Estero, Fla., and Gina Melton of Danville; a son, Jeffrey of Somerset; three sisters, Kathrine Crawford and Virginia Miller, both of Owensboro, and Sidney Wedding of St. Louis; a brother, Clarence of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Christina Canino, Byron, Scott and Emily Whittamore, Brandy Martin, Shana Melton and Amy Beth and John Christian Nash; and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Danville. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home in Danville and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.
