Karl A. Christ Jr.
HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. -- Karl A. Christ Jr., 75, Heber Springs, formerly of Henderson, died of cancer Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Little Rock, Ark.

He was sports editor of the Henderson Gleaner Journal for five years. He also served as sports editor of the LaPorte, Ind., Herald Argus and was an outdoor columnist and assistant sports editor of the Fort Wayne, Ind., Journal-Gazette. He retired as editor from The Guardian Press (now The Arkansas Catholic) in Little Rock, Ark. He continued working as a sportswriter, writing an outdoor column and covering sporting events part-time for the Arkansas Democrat.

He was a graduate of Holy Name High School in Henderson. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1950 with a degree in journalism. While at UK, he played football under coach Paul "Bear" Bryant and played in the 1947 Great Lakes Bowl and 1950 Orange Bowl.

A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, belonging to Council No. 812 in Little Rock and had served for many years as state publicity director. He rose to the level of Fourth Degree in the Knights and was the charter Grand Knight for the St. Albert's Catholic Church Council No. 12778 in Heber Springs. He served as an usher and a member of the parish council at St. Albert's Catholic Church. He also was a member and former post historian at American Legion Post 64 in Heber Springs.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Betty Ann Bohn Christ; four daughters, Mary Kay Wimer of Maplewood, Minn., Mary Pat Maley of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mary Jo Melillo of New Melle, Mo., and Mary Beth Citti of Little Rock; two sons, Mark Christ of Little Rock and Tony Christ of Memphis, Tenn.; his uncle, Emil Christ of Henderson; two aunts, Virginia Hicks and Katherine Hinch, both of Henderson; and 14 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Albert's Catholic Church in Heber Springs, where a rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Olmstead Funeral Home in Heber Springs is in charge of arrangements.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Albert's Catholic Church Building Fund.

Romaine Dawson
Services for Romaine Dawson, 76, Henderson, who died Sunday, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Gordon Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call until 9:30 a.m. today at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Matt Dawson, Scott Dawson, Rufus Eblen, Paul Eblen, Bill Denton, Kurt Denton, Brian Denton, and Phil Ritz.

Jonelle Shields

Services for Jonelle Shields, 74, Henderson, who died Wednesday, will be at 2 p.m. today at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Rev. Alan Todd will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call until service time today at the funeral home.

Paul W. Nantz

Services for Paul W. Nantz, 66, Anthoston, who died Tuesday, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bellfield Baptist Church. The Revs. John Zeigler and Tim Darnell will officiate. Burial will be in Farley Cemetery in Henderson County.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Earl Thompson, Shannon Sheahorn, George Moats, Larry Babb, Hugh Hazelwood, Gary Sparks, Tom Hicks, Dan Williams, Corbett Duncan, Bermon Addison, Maxie Cannon, Ben Nelson, Jim Robards, Jim Mattingly, C.W. Thurby, Paul Cannon, Earl Stanley, and Claude Watkins.

Lydia Margaret Green

Services for Lydia Margaret Green, 72, Robards, who died Tuesday, will be at 2 p.m. today at Faith Christian Cedar Log Church in Niagara. The Rev. Floyd Littrell will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. today at the church.

Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Latham

Graveside services for Betty Latham, 79, Winter Springs, Fla., formerly of Evansville, who died Tuesday, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville. The Revs. K. Richard Holladay and Rebecca Curry will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara Jean Fairchild
Barbara Jean Fairchild, 64, Henderson, died at 11:48 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at her home here.

She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Women of the Moose and Henderson Democratic Womens Club. She was retired after 19 years of service with the Henderson Housing Authority.

Survivors include three daughters, Catherine Croxton of Henderson, Teresa Currao of Long Island, N.Y., and Patricia Ingalls of North Clarendon, Vt.; two sons, Robert Fairchild of Henderson and Dominic Fairchild of Kingwood, Texas ; her mother, Emma Trodglen of Henderson; six sisters, Bernie Cooper, Lou Williams, and Ginger Page, all of Henderson, Brenda Doss of Pacific, Mo., Paula Stallings of Catawissa, Mo., and Sue Stone of Dixon; one brother, Charles "Bud" Trodglen of Henderson; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Monday at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. The Rev. Andrew Garner will officiate. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday and a rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Henderson Cancer Center or St. Anthony's Hospice.

Evelean C. French

MORGANFIELD -- Evelean C. French, 84, Morganfield, died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Morganfield Nursing and Rehab.

She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.L. French, who died in 1984.

Survivors include four daughters, Shannon Newton and Patricia Lewis, both of Louisville, Joyce Whitehead of Sturgis, and Debbie Henshaw of Morganfield; four sons, Larry French, Gene French, Roger French, and Wendell French, all of Morganfield; six sisters, Agnes Hollander and Theresa Herr, both of Evansville, Maxine D'Elia of Vera Beach, Fla., Joanne Hancock of Lexington, Ann Simon of Sarasota, Fla., and Geraldine Omer of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and four brothers, Lewis Collins of Evansville, Gene Collins of Waverly, Phil Collins of Henderson, and Eddie Collins of Morganfield.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Ann Catholic Church. The Rev. Pat Bittel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Uniontown.

Friends may call from 2:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and after 9 a.m. Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, where prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Romaine Dawson
Romaine Dawson, 76, Henderson, died at 12:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at her home.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and was a retired Henderson County educator.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Willis S. Dawson, who died Dec. 7, 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Sydney Ann Dawson of Evansville; one son, Mark B. Dawson of Oswego, N.Y.; a brother, Richard Reed Cooper of Maggie Valley, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Gordon Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and until 9:30 a.m. Friday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home.

Donald Allen Biggs

Donald Allen Biggs, 68, Henderson, died at 8:53 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Methodist Hospital.

He was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran and a barber in Henderson. He was also a Kentucky Colonel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Owens Biggs, who died in 1979.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Cartwright of Madisonville and Mary Beth Perry of Franklin, Ky.; a son, Mark Biggs of Henderson; two sisters, Lillie West of Princeton, Ind., and Anna Mae Haynes of Henderson; two brothers, William "Bill" Biggs of Henderson and James E. Biggs of Starke, Fla.; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, with full military rites performed by the American Legion Worsham Post No. 40.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Herschel "Bigfoot" Nave

Herschel "Bigfoot" Nave, 85, Cairo, formerly of Uniontown, died at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at his home.

He opened Ohio 11 Mine in Uniontown and retired as a foreman there. He was a member of the Uniontown Coon Club.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Hilton Nave and John Nave, and one daughter, Rebecca Nave.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary; three daughters, Linda Strunje of Louisville, Martha Cunningham of New Albany, Ind., and Joan Graham of Morganfield; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield.

The Rev. Robert Fulcher will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery in Dawson Springs.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
