Charles Holbert, Owen dispatcher

Charles Douglas Holbert of Owenton brought many a smile to faces with his friendly, jocular manner - as his fellow emergency dispatchers and car salesmen could attest.

"He just loved people and he was always telling jokes," said his sister, Glenna Schrader of Owenton.

"He was a fun-type person."

Mr. Holbert died Tuesday at Owen County Hospital in Owenton. He was 68 years old.

Born and reared in Owenton, Mr. Holbert worked years as a car salesmen before his health forced him to quit his job.

He then served as a dispatcher with the Owen County Sheriff's Department until 1995.

Both jobs appealed to him because he got to meet many people, said Ms. Schrader. She said another of his favorite things was reading.

Mr. Holbert was a member of El Bethel Christian Church in Owen County.

A daughter, Linda Raye Holbert, died in 1957.

Besides Ms. Schrader, survivors include sons, Michael Douglas Holbert of Dayton, Ohio, and Charles Anthony Holbert of Merrimack, N.H.; daughters, Marsha Kaye Stidham and Theresa Faye Mossburg, both of Dayton, Ohio; his mother, Lydia Mae Giles Holbert of Owenton; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home on Main Street in Owenton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
