Shelby Cook Jr.
Shelby Cook Jr., 59, of Old Whitley Road, Lily, Kentucky, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at the Marymount Medical Center in London.
Born December 14, 1941, in Leslie County, Kentucky, he was a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Lily.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Rose (Howard) Cook and Shelby Cook.
Survivors include his wife, Jewell P. (Proffitt) Cook, of Lily, Ky.; two sons, James Walter Cook and Michael Cook, both of Lily, Ky.; a daughter, Martha Renee Wooton of Lily, Ky.; a sister, Yvonne Cook Wildman of Indiana; a brother, James Cook of Indiana; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 23, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Johnny Day and Bro. Carl Ellison officiating. Burial followed in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily.

Karen S. House
University director
Karen S. House, 41, went to be with our heavenly Father on June 10, 2001, after suffering a massive stroke while attending a business conference. She passed away at Tulane University Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Born on October 28, 1959, in Hamilton, Ohio, she was the daughter of David and Geraldine (Allen) House.
She was valedictorian of the 1978 graduating class of New Miami High School. She was a graduate of Miami University, earning a bachelor of science in 1982, graduating magna cum laude, and a master of science in educational leadership in 1983.
Karen was a dedicated employee of Miami University of Hamilton, serving as director, Continuing Education and Business and Industry Center. She was a long-time member of Tri-County Baptist Church. She was very active in the community, serving on several boards and committees, including Greater Hamilton Business Expo 2001 Planning Committee, the Small Business Development Center, 2001 and 2002 Kids' Health Fair Planning Committees, Lifelong Learning Task Force in City of Hamilton's Vision 2020 planning process, board member and alumni participant, Leadership Hamilton activities, and Southeastern Butler County Chamber Leadership 21 Program.
She served as chairperson of Continuing Education Directors networking group, Greater Cincinnati consortium of College and Universities, Conference Services Committee, and Ohio Continuing Higher Education Association Constitution and Bylaws Committee, 2001-2002. She was a member of University Continuing Education Association, American Society for Training and Development (Cincinnati Chapter), Greater Consortium of Colleges and Universities -- Continuing Education Directors. She served as past president of Ohio Continuing Higher Education Association 1995-1996 and was re-elected to a second two-year term to serve as Treasurer of University Continuing Education Association.
Karen is survived by her loving family, including her mother Geraldine of Hamilton, Ohio; her brother, James D. House and wife Mary of Hamilton, Ohio; her sister, Donna J. Lindy and husband Rudy of Fairfield, Ohio; and brother David L. House II of Hamilton, Ohio. She was the devoted aunt of Jenna Lindy, Ryan Lindy, Joseph House, Emily House and Rachel House. Her father, David L. House, preceded her in death in August 1999. She will be missed greatly by several aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, colleagues and associates.
Karen was a very giving person in life and continued giving in death as an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Karen S. House Scholarship Fund, c/o Miami University Hamilton, 1601 Peck Boulevard, Hamilton, Ohio 45011.
Funeral services were held at the Webb Noonan Funeral Home in Hamilton, Ohio, on Friday, June 15, with the Rev. Barry Turner officiating. Burial was at Millville Cemetery in Hamilton.

Jimmy D. Stanley

Jimmy D. Stanley, 67, of Jefferson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 19, 2001. He was the son of the late Roxie (Alred) and Ed Stanley, and is survived by his wife, Donna (Williams) Stanley.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 22, at the Lakes Funeral Home Chapel in Berea, Kentucky, with entombment following in the Berea Cemetery Mausoleum.

Mary Scalf Bishop
Mary Scalf Bishop, 71, of Old Barton School Road, Corbin, Kentucky, went to be with Jesus on Monday, June 18, 2001. She was the daughter of the late Sarah (Brock) and John Scalf, and was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bishop.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 22, at the Corbin Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the McHargue Cemetery.

Esther H. Lovelace
Esther H. Lovelace was born on February 22, 1907, in Laurel County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Henry and Lee Phillips Harrison.
She was united in marriage to G.T. Lovelace, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Sue Lovelace Taylor and husband Harold of London, Ky.; one son, Gordon Lovelace and wife Joyce of London, Ky.; four grandchildren, Stephen Taylor, Leslie Lawrence, Robbie Lovelace and Jess Lovelace.
Esther H. Lovelace departed this life on Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Marymount Medical Center in London, at the age of 94 years, 3 months and 28 days.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in London.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 21, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Terry Lester and the Rev. Bobby Phillips officiating. Burial followed in the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park.
Visitation was at House-Rawlings Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.

John Pearl Newland

John Pearl Newland, 94, of Laurel Village, London, Kentucky, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at the Marymount Medical Center in London. He was the son of the late Emma (McNeil) and Christopher Crawford Newland.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 19, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the A.R. Dyche Memorial Park.

Dr. Brentley Wilson Bernard

Dr. Brentley Wilson Bernard, 60, of Woodlawn Drive, Somerset, Kentucky, died Thursday, June 13, 2001, at Norton's Hospital in Louisville after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Bernard, and is survived by his mother, Lacona Wilson Bernard of Russell Springs, Ky.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 15, at the First Baptist Church of Somerset and Saturday, June 16, at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Russell Springs.

Fred Schott

Fred Schott, 95, of Parman Street, London, Kentucky, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the Laurel Heights Nursing Home. He was the son of the late Eloise (Koontz) and Michael Schott, and was preceded in death by his wife, Canda (Rader) Schott.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 17, at the House-Rawlings Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the St. John's Swiss Reform Church Cemetery in East Bernstadt.

Evelyn Gail Rice

Evelyn Gail Rice, 42, of Boreing Drive, London, Kentucky, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Edith (Bowles) and Edgar Elkins, and is survived by her husband, John Rice of London, Ky.
Funeral services will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Wyatts Chapel Cemetery.

Mary Smith Smallwood

Mary Smith Smallwood, 76, of North Fair Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Myrtle (Rose) and Henry Smith, and was preceded in death by her husband, Birchel Smallwood.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 19, at the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Union Cemetery at London.
